It LOOKS like he has no E string, but I swear he does. It's clear he plays on the E string at around the 42 second mark, and if you pause it at exactly 1 minute, you can clearly see 4 strings. I think the little thing hanging down that looks like a string (at the beginning) is some sort of recording device or microphone.
