Gundam 00 takes place in our universe (Anno Domini) in the year 2301

Gundam 00 is a modern remake of Gundam Wing (albet with several differences) 00 takes a more realistic and "post-9/11" sytle to it then Wing did which is why 00 stands out. Before some people jump down my throat you should understand that pure melee type gundams like Epyon, Deathscythe, and Sandrock (wile cool to look at) are all incredibly inefficent as actual weapons when everyone else uses guns. But atleast they kept Exia

You make an interesting point...

Ofcourse an 18 meter high, collosal robot, fully capable of flight with an equipped laser sword, piloted by someone in peak physical condition, would be inefficient as a weapon, how silly of anyone to think otherwise.

jokes aside though, I do get the more realistic approach in 00. the theme of fossil fuels brings it a lot closer to home.. But why?, i dont think the realistic themes make it better.

Realistic themes make the anime more realistic in that everyone can recognize immediately and relate to thus, giving it a more realistic feedback from the viewers. I believe it can open the eyes of those that watch anime and movies purely as entertainment and never noticing the messages conveyed in them. Just my own opnion.....no offense intended.

nah, i think the idea of realism and relation is stripped away from the anime considering the futuristic aspects. I think the quality of the anime is defined more accurately by the character relationships and the general plot of the anime, i think the realistic themes do little for it.

No! This series takes place on an alternate timeline than the original series. As does G Gundam, Gundam Wing, and Gundam Seed.

The original series has about 10 total series's/miniseries's/movies :

Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, Char's Counterattack, 0080:War in the Pocket, F91, 0083:Stardust Memory, Victory Gundam, 8th MS Team and the upcoming Unicorn series.

i always like to think of gundam seed and 00 as remakes of previous scenarios. seed and the original focus on a fight between two superpowers while 00 and wing are between a superpower and a small organization :)

Gundam 00 first and second series blew seeds ass out of the water... Story and animation wise end of story.... I'm sorry to break any seed fans hearts but it's the truth..

 seed was way to unrealistic and way to overdone with all the animations ... Alest in this seires you get an understanding of all sides and how it all happened.

seed was a pain in the ass with all the crying, but it eventually grew on me but nowhere near my favorite anime. Gundam Wing will always be my favorite. Going to give this one a try see if its good or not.

I just started watching Gundam00 and I like it so far I also remember watching Gundam Seed and also enjoying it. They are both different but cool. Gundam Seed is like a futuristic WW2 like scenario while Gundam00 is a futuristic war on terror like scenario. Both shows kick ass in my opinion.

You're right, Gundam wing did use a lot of the same footage. Seed's shiny toy art style just made it look worse. It's just as noticable on either one, but wing it was just average footage. Seed tried to make look like it was end all special when it really wasn't. I can't put it exactly as I mean it, but Seed seems over done to me, personally.

Gundam Seed sucks. All of it. The story, the characters (I'll let Lacus, Lunamaria and Shin slide), most of the mobile suits, and the rehashed 0079 story, showing the same spamed graphics and fight scenes over and over again. The characters suck and are annoying. 0079 and 8th mobile suit team were far superior, Wing was far better, and so is 00. Guess since Seed was a first for a lot of Americans they think it's great. My advice; check out the other Gundam series.

Most of his attacks against Leos had him firing at one and The same clip rehashed of two random Leos got Shot to pieces. then he fired up and hit three jets. but this is coming from a Wing fan I perfer UC and wing over anything.
