  • Is Herbert supposed to be a professor or a teacher?

  • @howardtheman I suspect he could of been something like that.

Seemed nice, too bad he was only on for 2 years though his skits were constantly repeated years after they retired him.

  • I don't blame the delivery man for being mad at Herb but boy was he weird for talking to 2 letters who aren't even alive.

  • @MIKECNW

I guess he'd made enough deliveries to Sesame Street to realize that some letters might just talk back.

  • HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....I loved it as a child and I LOVE it now!!

    thank you VERY much!!

  • Wuuuhhh ET. Ssssss ET. Mmmmmmm ET.

  • I've only seen a still shot of The An Family series, but it was the best shot they could have used in whatever type of video was created. The F & the AN were far apart, being blown away. The ending... (Wind blows harder) Herbert: "Uh, Grover? Turn off the fan. Turn it off, Grover! Turn off the FAAAAAAAN!" Grover: "Herb!" (CRASH!) (Wind roars louder and higher) Grover & Herbert try desperatly to reach the fan, but they fail to turn it off. Herbert: "Aaaa\h--haaa!" (CRASH!)
  • @1980sVideoVault I remember that sketch! It was funny (and a little disturbing)!

  • "Hey Give Me A Break Charlie!" Haha. That line has always stuck with me.

  • The delivery man is VERY snarky. Great memory flash

  • Has the Sesame Street website, or any one else found the 3-part "AN" Family segment with Herbert Birdsfoot & Grover? The final part is my favorite clip, where Herbert tries to show the word "Fan" as Grover turns it on, but the fan blows away the props, and themselves! I recall them being part of the Hawaii series of Sesame Street episodes, as Buffy was still present at the time the AN Family clips were still airing on the show, and it was hilarious. The words were RAN CAN & FAN.
  • Now, will you SIGN THIS??? That line stands out in my mind the most as this is a memory I'll never FORGET! Unfortunately for the delivery man, he would have to bring over four letters at once to make that word!:)

  • Isn't it interesting how Frank Oz uses the name charlie in alot of his skits. I wonder if there was some one special in his life named charlie or if he just likes the name.

  • How about the clip where Herbert and Grover discuss the "AT" family?

  • I don't recall that one but I recall them discussing the sound AN.

  • Right. That's what I meant. A little mistype. Sorry about that.

  • Herbert needed a better toupee

  • OMG Frank Oz is so funny here....."it's a weird one charlie!" and "Mr Foot". Man I am cracking up at work again

  • is it me or does Herbert Birdsfoot look like ned flanders

  • I liked it when the mailman delivered the blue letter "W" to make the word "WET". W was my favorite letter.

  • Herbert is no Kermit.

  • I also like the delivery man when he has to go through these funny requests by Herbert Birdsfoot and gets pissed off.

  • Herbert Birdsfoot looks like Nedward "Ned" Flanders from the animated television series The Simpsons.

  • did you catch the in joke when the delivery guy refers to charlie because frank oz also performs grover the waiter who works with a non existant cook named charlie and here is also non existent

  • Yeah, I noticed that too. At first, though, I misheard and thought the delivery man was calling his off-screen partner Joey.

I wonder if the delivery man works with the guy who delivered the letter G in the song "Oh G (Why I Love That Letter)". Come to think of it, that guy could be Charlie for all we know. If so, he should bring his G out. Then they could make the word 'get'.

I understand Herbert Birdsfoot did this with Grover too. Can anyone upload that clip?

  • I heard somewhere that Herbert Birdsfoot's name was based on Gordon Lightfoot....

  • Where did you hear that?

  • This is one of my favourites! So glad you posted it. I love the way he say's "oh, great pleased to meet ya" to the ET family without even noticing they're not people. I also like the way he mimics Herbert's "Not until you make the sound" and is embarrassed to be making silly sounds in front of Charlie. I used to entertain my friends with this skit. Hilarious.

  • "That's enough, Charlie, I can see ya smiling!"

  • @PandaMishima And don't forget 'Pleased to meet you!'

  • The delivery man sounds just like George the Janitor from "The Muppet Show".

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • I put in junk letters at first just to download the video first. I spent almost 10 minutes writing down everything and lost it all when my computer froze on me. This took over two hours to download!
