Ya, it sucks. Generally all Hot Topics used to be "dark and scary," but now they are trying to get away from that vibe. So they are bringing brighter colors, more girly stuff, poppy bands, kiddy stuff.... basically everything that is the opposite of what they used to be.

Yup. Been working at HT for a year now. Half of our merchandising focus nowadays goes into making the entry way displays more "bright" and "colorful."

One of the HT's near mine still has a black floor, but a district manager from cooperate HT told my boss that they are working on really shedding that image. This is also why a quarter of our merchandise is now centered around kids cartoons/movie merch.
