  • It's a great satisfaction to hear so many good singers from the young generation : Erdmann, Piersson, Karthauser. This aria is sublime and Mojca Erdmann has such an emotionnal expression. Thank you for having posted this.

  • If anybody could tell me what is going on in this performance, I would be very grateful. Because I love the song and I know what it means, I'm just confused as to what is going on in the scene. So if anybody knows, please tell me. :)

  • Mozart existiu ou foi um sonho que tivemos?

  • There are few perfections on earth as the music of Mozart.

  • Excellent.

  • Im proud that tunes like this are spread through outer space. Its one of the rare nice things what can mankind give to this world.

  • :08 whats Patrick Stewart doing in this? lol....

  • @Perktube1

    hilarious!

  • Goodness, she is wonderful and I love the set.

  • I saw her in Gon Giovanni. She was delightful.I don't know why but she reminds me Meg Ryan.Lovely voice, great look.

  • 2012 is coming, we are going to die.

  • why argue about theology when you can listen to this beautiful soprano instead?

  • Au contraire, you of no faith, it is not belittling to be inspired. Even atheists are inspired by something when creating art. What difference is it to you if jimk43 believes it was the voice of God that inspired Mozart. Don't belittle yourself by being so confined to your own limited imagination.

  • @boonece1 Touche. However, I see a lot of achiements attributed to a divine being or a greater power, and it just distracts from the potential that humanity posseses. The same goes for misfortune/accidents/natural disasters, as many tend to blame it on some intangible force instead of addressing how/why this occured and how to prepare for future instances. Lessons are not learned and credit is not given where credit is due when the focus is shifted away from to some higher power.

  • @boonece1 Excellent reply! It's what looks to see in UTube commentaries instead of vulgar mindless, often irrelevant, insults. Thanks.

  • The best for female voice is "Ach, ich liebte" from Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

  • The composer was certainly touched by God to be able to create such a beautiful piece of music!

  • @jimk43 Stop belittling human ingenuity and creativity. We have no need for silly imaginary beings.

  • That is a creepy and out of character set...but that lovely soprano makes up for that, and the music - my god - the art of it! How sweet, how sublime!

  • @hearts0ngs Couldn`t agree more,I hate the modern set,the music deserves better so much better.

  • Oh wow! Fantastic!

  • You are right the dimensions of the room means humans dwarfed by the world. The school desk means a "learning experience". The rocks on the floor obstacles in the way. She is urging him to sleep all you can do after a day of frustration fighting the world. "Until your fortune awakes." he will need a fortune to provide for her and her children. The hand gestures symbolize first suffering then a loving caress. Such is love one day a kiss the next a slap in the face. The vocalizations are beauty.

  • Lovely singing.TY e for posting.

  • Did you notice his disheveled appearance and that he had been sleeping on the floor? Guess the night before was no picnic.

  • WHERE IS NUMBER 4

  • This song sounds like Rosie the Pink Tank Engine's theme from Thomas and Friends.

  • Why are they miniature?! This is definitely a favorite aria of mine but I don't know what the scene is about. Could someone who does tell me? :)

  • @Gloria0004

I suffer from the same ignorance and confusion. I think Franz Kafka designed the opera set. The music is so beautifully resilient, it sings through.

  • @Gloria0004 Yeah, the set and visuals are an oddity, I would love to know more. It makes me think of René Magritte or Salvador Dali, beautifully odd and disconcerting. The dual pair of characters seems to be saying something about aging, young and then old, (we go to sleep young and wake up to find ourselves old?). As for the miniature of the humans, are they feeling tiny in a huge world? We could go on, but that is about the only thing I could draw from it. Anyone else have thoughts?

  • Absolutely sublime; truly, one could not want more of an aria

  • Beautiful singing.

But - some opera producers should be imprisoned for crimes against good taste!! Perhaps the most senseless thing was the ridiculous arm and face rubbing near the end - ridiculous.

  • It's a woman's love fully bestowed

On the object of her heart,

    While he dreams unaware

Of the richness of her gift.

Will he ever know her adoration?

Will he ever be able to return it?

  • Lyrics:

    Ruhe sanft, mein holdes Leben,

    schlafe, bis dein Glück erwacht;

da, mein Bild will ich dir geben,

schau, wie freundlich es dir lacht:

Ihr süssen Träume, wiegt ihn ein,

und lasset seinem Wunsch am Ende

    die wollustreichen Gegenstände

    zu reifer Wirklichkeit gedeihn.

  • My heart just fell

  • Amazing. I am in love with this song.

  • indeed, I loved this aria.

  • me.. too... I don't like that creepy puppet....

  • in jede kleine, deutsche opernhaus singen DUTZENDE sopranistine wie sie.nichts besonderes!!!!! und noch....ihre stimmelimit ist leider nur mozart.im andere rolen sie absolut uninteressant wird

  • Wonderful voice performance!

  • WOW! Outstanding performance (and music of course)

  • una de las arias mozartianas más evocadoras...

  • Beautiful aria, of course, and Mojca gives a wonderfully connected performance--but what a weird funhouse of staging!

I'd be curious to know what your choices for numbers 1-4 were--I can't find them. Lots to choose from, that's for sure...

  • Perfeito!

  • Can anyone tell me her name please?

  • @hassanabbasbirmani The singers name is Mojca Erdmann

  • @helgeras Thanks Sir!

  • So beautifull. Thank you Ernestoalba. Your chanell and musical choises are wonderfull. :-)

  • Lovely top but her phrasing cannot compare to that of Kiri Te Kanawa's recording with Colin Davis.

  • the singer, as it is called the singer? I need to know

  • i'm very scared of this. it's also very cool. thanks for posting it O.O

  • beautiful voice but the breathing is not good. breathing in opera singing should not be heard loudly and it seems like she's so tense that every middle of each phrase, she's running out of air supply in her diaphram

  • if such a beautiful young lady sung to me like this I would surrender immediately

this whole scene is so charming

  • this is what dreams are made of

  • 猿には描けない

    なんと美しいメロディー(涙)

  • The reason for the mics is that all operas at the salburgs festival that year (2006) were recorded for the Deutsche Grammophone MI22 collection. All singers had mics so that the recording team were sure to be able to mix it properly afterwards. They recorded it over 2-3 performances and everybody wore mics all the time. It wasn't amplified in the theatre!

  • Why do the 2 other singers onstage who aren't singing have body mics on their temples?

Maybe they have tinier voices and they felt they needed them?

  • divino,lindo, belo, viva Mozart

  • Spellbinding!

  • soprano voice is so high, my dad don't like this!!! Or I'll slap her in the face!!

  • @MrTompho I'm so sorry about you and your dad

  • This is so beautiful. What is the name of the opera this is from?

  • @daytraderfbf It is from an unfinished opera by Mozart called "Zaide".

  • and what marvellous decor!

  • Gorgeous, Gorgeous....i love it.

  • Beautifull she's gorgeous , she's sweet !

  • Amazing interpretation. thank you for the nice idea to set Mozart in nowadays environment. Music in this way can renovate itself and be a wonderful sign of creativity and endless emotion.

  • so beautiful

  • Bellísimo!!! Inmensamente llena de sentimiento...

  • how do you keep your playlist from continously repeating to play all over again?

It used to play only just oce. Now when you click "play all" it keeps playing forever.

And what/where are the other 4 beautiful Mloazrt arias? This one's so beautiful.

    Thanks,

    Mike :)

  • awww... thts so romantic :)

  • major goosebumps

  • Is there a DVD of this that I could buy and what's the title?

  • Con Mozart..es Dios quien nos habla.

  • 3:30 - 4:08

I just can´t stop listening to that...

  • My wife greets me that way in the morning also.. NOT!

  • wow !! she make me cry and pee at the same time lol.......... perfecto maestro!!

  • @speeeedy77 your comment was great and terrible at the same.. a perfect imperfection.... Bravo!

  • who is the singer? she has a beautiful voice.

  • @warriormantra2009, Mojca Erdman, want she in deutsche grammophon, she have exclusive contract with this company

  • Ravishingly sung - and ravishingly acted. The equal, in my opinion - of any of the later great soprano arias by Mozart.

  • AWESOME

  • stupenda

  • zaide

  • very oneiric, both the song and the setting

  • I recently saw Erdmann in London and Vienna. Unfortunately she has lost much of the charme she had when she did Zaide. She tends to overact heavily - in an anyway pretty terrible Freischutz - and her singing has lost much of the warmth she had a few years ago. She now sounds as artificial as she begins to look. Very sad! She could still become a great singer but seems to be going into the wrong direction.

  • I notice the title says this is one of 5 Arias, and tried searching for the rest and could not find them. Would there be any more? And if so, could they be linked to this video (that Youtube thing where you click on the following video) so we can watch them all?

  • ok. this would be excellant but who is the chap on the radiator? bothers me/. plus i do comprehend the bare feet as in honesty but then why do two men appear? it this her past and present loves or what?.. i like this vid because for an idiot like me it makes it kinda accesible.....rsvp..

  • After a hard day of vulgar and blind existence this five minutes are the sun the rain and the certainty of something very important.

  • You SO hit the nail on the head!!!!!!

  • You couldnt have said it better ...

  • @Jomabeks

    excellent words....

  • @Jomabeks That is so beautiful....

  • @manwomanboogie Thank You. Beautiful Art brings beautiful words.

  • @Jomabeks Loooooove your comment! Very true and moving. I've loved this song since I've been 8 years old. I used to sing it with my friend. This scene is rad. Gives a new force and emotion to it. It's like trying your favorite wine but experiencing it all over again with its new smell and nuances and it taking you away to sublime bliss!

  • Glorious. I like the video too. Very good quality. Thanks for posting

  • the downside of democracy and the collapse of the class system. i thought as a species we were meant to progress, but we have music like this over 200 years old and now the masses have equal say and those to idiot twins from ireland Jedward seem to get all the attention. nothing i can say can depict how depressing the world can be

  • beautiful aria, a beautiful woman

  • This was a little avant-guard, which I'm not sure I liked. But her voice was great.

  • A masterpiece, and a privilege to see it.

    this music cannot be subverted.

  • Great post, Thanks!

    Gary

  • Beautifull Song ..!

  • where are the other tops #1-#4? will they follow soon? looking forward to them!

many thanks for posting this most charming voice!

  • Mozart a probablement entendu cette voix du paradis ! Cette femme ressemble à un ange !

Mozart probably heard this voice from heaven! This woman looks like an angel!

  • very good!! and she's so pretty

  • oh!!!!!!!!! very beautifully voice!!!

  • wich opera is the first aria from?

  • Zaide

  • Beautiful. I've always wanted to know what the words meant.

  • She is beautiful, but her singing doesn't have legato and always she sings too short line.

  • maybe because it's in german and she wants the audience to understand the text!

  • I agree with you -of course it is a live performance and she has to move around a lot (it's easier to sing this in a concert). Yet at the beginning she's just standing at the door and no legato what so ever. Peculiar choice.

  • Gosh! She is beautiful!!

  • @gunchibaiyya what else coud one say? :O

  • Interesting singer totally unknown to me. Perhaps a little problematic in the high notes but in general, this is sung with a very tender voice. Could you please post Zaide's second aria from this version (the slow aria about a bird lamenting in his cage or whatever similar)

    4*

P.D.: Eurotrash production, as usual in Salzbourg ;)

  • I totally agree. I am going to see her next February here in Madrid...

  • Doing what?

  • Just her singing Alban Berg, Anton Webern, Alma Mahler-Werfel and Gustav Mahler accompanied by piano. But I am excited anyway since it is the first time she will sing at the Madrid Opera House

  • excelente! hermoso trabajo vocal y preciosa voz!

    gracias por compartir el video

  • Nice.

What're the other 4? And for men?

  • what a beautiful and flawless voice. Who is this singing

  • Her name's MOJCA ERDMANN and she'll be Zelmira in Haydn's Armida - this year in Salzburg!!

  • It was not grief, it's called a virus! LOL!

  • Maybe "L'ho perduta...me meschina!" by Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro will make it onto the list.

  • Pura hermosura......

  • Comment removed

  • io sono piu brava di lei...

  • Thanks for this video. I love it

  • Mozart was the master of music

If only grief had not consumed him

  • Recently I was searching this piece on tube, and could not find a really good one... how excellent the sopranos were though...

    And now it is here....

    It was my husband's favorite.

He passed away twenty years ago.....

    Ruhe Sanft, André...

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • @EttasFavourites agreed, my former signature piece....this soprano is by far the best in our day in this aria....THANK YOU!!!

  • A very beautiful piece!
