they turn sideways for more speed. its called side-slipping. it gives a larger surface for less water to travel under, increasing speed. this quality sucks. but haha its all good

Skimboards have a rocker/are curved up at the tip and a little at the tail. This creates drag. sideslipping allows the water to pass under without pushing against this curve, less resistance, you go farther.

turning sideways is called stalling it helps u maintain ur speed while slowing u down so u dont go into the wave to hard
