How difficult would it be to actually cut through that gate? What kind of tool would be best? There is nothing (NOTHING) more depressing than hiking out to a remote mine only to find some bureaucrat has installed a gate. The gate in this video won't even allow bats to fly in and out, so if there were any bats in there, they were in advertently sealed in when the gate was installed.
I'm way pissed that they closed all those mines off with gates. I took a bunch of my friends up there last summer and the only one we could get in was the one above the old tram house. Somebody dug underneath the air shaft bars and you can slide in on your back about 25 feet or so then you are in the main drift. I understand why they are concerned about peoples safety but let us be the judge of that for our selves. Hopefully somebody takes a cutting torch and gets into some of them.
I went in all these mines back in May of 2004 before they put gates on them. Even the ones up higher by the old tram house. Those mines are huge. The one with the black tailings goes all the way through the mountain. But you have to walk through water about two hundred yards to get through it. There is a gate on that one as well. But if you go just above the entrance there is a small air shaft that you can crawl through to get in. We were up there in July of this year.
By my house, there is this, cement factory or something. But there is the big rusty building with a conveyer that goes underground. we folowed it down, (the whole place is no longer uses as far as we know) and its just a tunnel for a while, then stairs, then some planks of wood going over some shallow looking water. does anybody know exactly what this is? ive been refering to it as "the old mine" but its not really a mine. BTW! ill b posting a vid of it shortly if yer interestded.
This mine is part of the Ophir Hill mining complex located just outside of Ophir, Utah. I am a member of the non-profit abandoned mine exploration group Mojave Underground. Every year we conduct several free tours of this mine that are open to the public. If you would like to participate in one of these tours do a google search for Mojave Underground and sign up on one of our websites. The Ophir Hill is my favorite mine and has over 22 miles of explorable tunnels!
Have you ever heard of a Lantern or a Flashlight? lol. Man I want to see that and you always forget to carry a light. Do not carry an open flame inside of the mines. It could be dangerous and create an explotion if there is any gas in there. Please take a nice flashlight with you and go in there with your camera.
Great job! Those mines look incredible! Is that in Colorado? Check out the couple mine videos on my channel if you want. They were shot in the mountains east of San Diego, CA and are basically abandoned gold mines left over from the Gold Rush days.

@silver760 Yeah. A hardhat WOULD be a good idea, even though it might not be enough to stop the big ones!
