  • Mercedes-Benz rulezz Yoo, no wonder that it starts :D

  • German technology :)

  • Tu habite en France ?

  • @nicolagreable Non, j'suis du Québec.

  • @nicolagreable

    C'est un quebecois........

  • So I'm wondering, at this kind of temperature... after say an hour long drive, does the temp gauge even move? I remember driving at just -2 or so in a gasoline car and for about 20 minutes, the temp gauge wouldn't even move up past the bottom line.

  • @op3l On city driving, the engine temp dont grow but on the highway, it's not that hard to reach the third bubble even if it's a CDI. ;)

  • @dieselkiki I see. But if you're mainly driving around the city, how would you get warm air for the heater?

  • @op3l Smart CDI are equipe with an electric heater core beside the standard heater core under the dash board. It help to keep the cab comfortable and the windows clear of frost but it's a fact... the diesel engine of the smart CDI stay cold in city driving during cold weather. It's a chance for me that I must go on the highway every day to go to work! ;)

  • @dieselkiki Ah, that's very clever. Thanks bro!

  • This laugh has the sweet echo of success ;)

  • Does anyone know what the 140 mark is for?

  • you should put a blanket on it before you sleep !!!

  • MMmmmh -26.

  • PETROL RIGHT?

  • very nice:)

  • Ok it started, but the real question is, can you actually drive it anywhere in that snow?

  • vw polo 1.9d from 1995, started in -33, no biggie

  • @domelaci Do you have proof??

  • @dieselkiki no, but for me it's good enough to know from memory. This happened last year, I don't know how this year will be, cause I didn't change the glow plugs yet, but the other day way -23 and it started. When I wake up in the morning in such cold, I never believe it will start... but it always does. Well, I have to admit, that I cheated a little last year, 'cause I had the battery removed and I placed it in the house, so in the morning the battery wasn't that cold...

  • @dieselkiki Hey, at that time, I didn't think that it will start, so I had no camera with me. Especially that it was sitting there for almost a week without being started. I cheated a little because I removed the battery and placed it inside the house, cause after a week of -20 and -30 ti was almost completely dead. That little yellow car always amazes me. This was last winter, but I don't know how it will be this year, cause I didn't change the glow plugs yet... :) so, sorry, no proof

  • @dieselkiki this is normal in Finland. But still amazing for france

  • @dieselkiki no proof needed , i believe domelaci , my old '99 vw golf IV TDI started also at -25 with 260.000km on it

  • @domelaci That's great! My Toyota Yaris 1.4 d-4d -03 also had no starting issues during this winter, coldest start was -32 in January. Not even a close one =)

  • Yee amazing lol - in Poland is normal - but in your country its amazing Oo

    RESPECT XD

  • This sounds like a tractor.

  • Mercedes diesel never lets you down.

  • INCREDIBLE CAR-......WOW

  • it's like a toy with that snow all around it...:P

  • Inspect and test your glowplugs. Or if you have a "power box" or a "power ship", remove it! It could be the source of your starting problem. ;)

  • Mine won't start below 0C at the mo but I will sort it out!!! :0D xx

  • Comment removed

  • this is just a tractor engine :D

  • ahaha great!! ;-) love when you proudly poitn at the "cdi" logo

  • @boilingpoint2 merde.. c'était pas de l'ironie autant pour moi mec :-)

  • Thats mean CDI?

  • @malcauskas7

CDI = Common rial, Direct, Injection.

  • Damn, what a pain to start this car. I assume it works better when you plug it in? How far do you have to drive before it's fully warmed up?

  • @silverboyzzz 20 minutes in on city road, 5 minutes on highway.

  • @dieselkiki wow, sounds like my dad's workplace car (2006 Jetta TDI) and it doesn't even have a block heater. Other than the winter time, you must enjoy the car otherwise yes?

  • @silverboyzzz

I enjoy the car all the time... exept when I must go to these incompetent mercedes-benz dealer. They are better for breaking my car rather than repair.

  • @dieselkiki LOL, seems like all dealers are like that, I switched to an independent years ago.

  • @dieselkiki my friend owns one. he said he'd never buy an other one. not because of the car, but because he hates having to take it to the mercedes dealer for servicing.

  • @movitmovit It's a sad and real fact! Mercedes-Benz dealer servicing awful and it is the became the nightmare of a lot of smart owner. They are contemptuous and they have broken my car too often. Since my warranty is over, I service and repair my smart by myself. Better service, less expensive, no more shop comeback and flawless. I love mercedes-benz products but I "HATE" their service... if we can call this "service".

  • Thats how you kill a diesel engine.

  • @2URBO2 Euh... my engine still running man! Never have to touch to the engine at this time and the cluster show 91000km. at the moment. It's not a standard diesel, it's a CDI. Dont forget! ;)

  • @dieselkiki Any oil leaks? Lots of smoke when you drive? CDI is crap.

  • @2URBO2 No oil leak, no coolant leak, no fuel leak... the only thing that was leaking was the R-134A at the A/C compressor. No leaking at the engine. I'm very satisfied. The rest of the car are not realy reliable but the engine.... very tought! Maybe beacause it's the only thing on the car who's engineered by Mercedes-Benz!

What kind of car you had with a CDI engine who that was so crappy???

  • @dieselkiki Aha.....

Well, i have never owned a diesel. Im on my second gas car.

I have worked at Mercedes-Benz though, and i have seen the order label for guarantee parts, mostly cdi parts. Bad quality compared to gas.

  • grin!good call there dude diesel are all alike !as a rule of thumb turn key once for each 10 deg bellow .so you did it 2 time 3 would probably have been safer bet!

if a diesel didnt start in winter trucker would be in a big bind with just on time deliverys lol

  • running out diesel

  • It sounds like a sewing machine! ;-)

  • omg! ya I had to the same with mine. Let the coil warm up.

Cool

  • what joke,hahaha

  • ah ha ha!

  • how do you even do anywhere with all that snow, its not like that thing has 4wd

  • It's not too bad in snow. It's even impressive sometimes! See my oder video... you'll understand! ;)

    Enjoy!

  • do u know what winter tires are?... i don't think so...

  • @CIKO32123

are you stupid!? snow tire absolutly do not compensate for 4wd

  • @LarryDavidFreak

thats right, but they definitly help in winter to get better grip... and 4wd is not a real must... its enough to have rwd/fwd with esp and winter tires... esp has every new car with a lil bit of much power... and winter tires... they aren't that expensive to say after buyin' em imma gonna be poor... but your 4wd... what does that help without winter tires on ice? there is no real difference btw rwd and fwd without winter tires. all in all, beter get winter tires ;)

  • Mały dzielnie daje radę :)

  • is it an mercedes CDI engine ? I have a W203 C200 CDI :-)

  • Yes! It's the OM660 mercedes-benz turbodiesel engine inside.

Lucky your to can buy a Mercedes-Benz diesel! In north america, it's impossible cause there's no importation. There are only Ml, G, sprinter and R class avaliable in diesel version. The smart CDI was leave in 2008 and the E320 diesel Bluetec are leave this year. :( Lucky you are man! It's hard to introduce diesel car in north america.

  • @dieselkiki

yes, but diesel cars are the best ;-) I started my 2.2 litre CDI today... at -17 :-)

  • It's true!! But for a north american, a diesel engine are make for the trucks only. :( Mercedes-Benz diesel enine last forever if you do a good maintnance. I had a 240D and a 300SD before my smart CDI and I loved it! So...

  • @NordReportage I like diesel engines as well, but who the hell buys Smart (city car) with diesel engine?

Don't kill me, I'm not antifan of Smarts.

  • @Romanno14 Could you explain to me why a city car could not be powered by a diesel engine?? You must know that my smart is my only car and I run it as on city that as on highway. In the province of Québec, the highway speed limit is 100km/h. My smart CDI can speeding up to 138-140km/h. It's completely sufficient!! And with a fuel consumption of +/- 3,8L/100km with my smart CDI, I'll never buy a smart car with a gaz engine who can't do better than 4,8L/100km. That's the reason! ;)

  • siiick

    me love my smart

    <3

  • Fun video and a well deserved pat on the side for starting :)

  • Hehehe, it is a nice car, but that sound is going to haunt me. It sounded like a boat! :( I love Mercedes and Smart, but that was not a good sound. Poor car, and poor engine. Wouldnt you buy a petrol Forttwo instead.....?

  • 0,8L turbo diesel CDI = 3,6L/100km in best condition against

1,0L petrol = 6,2L/100km in the best condition.

Le petrol smart fortwo drink almost twice than my 0, 8L smart fortwo cdi!!

THAT'S the main reason why I'll never buy other smart fortwo than smart CDI or ED. ;)

  • And... I love that sound!! In acceleration the turbo is great to hear!! ;)

  • Great! :-)

  • Hi, how is traction on snow?

You are able to start the engine, and then?

    Spinning wheels?

How does this car behave uphill on snow track?

  • Just have to see my others videos. The answer are there!

    Thanks for initerest!

  • Great great car!!! Definitely impressive! As time passes by, I adore smart more and more. Both the fortwo and the roadster are on classes of their own!

  • I love your laughing dude! :D

Great car..will also buy a cdi maybe.

    Funny vid, thx! :)

    Greetings from germany

  • @EinzelstueckMuc

    Please man...buy another car...please!

  • Euh... no. That's the best car for my life style.

  • LMAO - it's an ice skate, the successor to the rollerskate.

  • holy crap. that was a really hard start for this car. but it works!!!

  • LOL @ the love pat @ the end.

  • runs like a tractor XD

  • -26 and your door opened like that i dont think so

  • it says -26 on the car's thermometer........

  • SHIT looking car, but good starter.

    But so ugly..

  • Haha the laugh kills me.

  • exellento!

  • The best horn for the Smart Fortwo is the shrieking Hella Supertone dual disc horns...they're AWESOME!

  • its a good idea to have fuel above the empty mark in extreme cold weather, leave it to a dumb quebecois.

  • That is true Smart power :D

  • how many kgs has a smart ? :D can you drive it withthe b1 category ? :D

  • 730 kilograms lol

  • wow... that still means that you can't drive it in romania at the age of 16...

    btw.. thx :D

  • One of the worse car in europe , when you buy a gasoline smart de engine will died about 100,000km .

  • It's maybe true when we talk about the 0,6l and the 0,7l gazoline engine sold in europe but there are no problems with the 0,8l turbodiesel engine. There are a lot of smart CDI that the clock show more than 200000km without any engine problems.

  • yeah l'hiver au quebec

  • this is in quebec? oh my god and i was thinking about going to gatineau hehe not anymore :P mais bravo pr la smart hehe

  • Awesome, but i would get some cetane before you run out,

  • Gawrsh five stars unbelievable I didn't know my car can do that! :-)

  • nich schlecht ihr missjeboten

  • When it's that cold, that's when you need AMSOIL in your car!! Then you can start at -50 or -60 below 0.

  • -26°? Yeah baby it is a real mercedes! :)

  • Do you have more videos of, for example, driving on a very cold day?

    Regards.

  • Nice car!

  • brrrrrrrrr

  • you use any diesel additives? Might help it start a little better. worth a shot.

  • unless those additives help to warm the car up before you start it.....yeah right, come on its just freezing cold, theres nothing wrong with this car it was just cold

  • yeah, because diesel fuel gelling is unheard of, right?

unlike gasoline that has near constant viscosity despite changing temperatures, diesel does not.

  • i work on my own diesel car, it never sees the mechanic unless its over a legal matter (MOT's) i also work on my brothers diesel van, so i have a good knowlege on the older diesel engines, an i can tell you if that if the diesel was gelled inside of this vehicle, there would of been now way in hell you could of got it running, not a least as quick as this, its a common rail diesel and that common rail would of been one block of jelly, and the pump internals would have been too

  • so your not a mechanic, and you live in a country that doesn't see temperatures as low as Canada does, so i should take your word on what a diesel additive can do for me. thanks.

BTW, what did you think the last 3 letters in my name were reference to?

  • no i wish i was a mechanic, i could put my skills to use to help others, well i do in a case, my whole neighbour hood calls upon me if theres anything wrong with their cars, no need to rub my face in it just becoz i can go out in our winters in shorts and t-shirts, though just be glad your country doesnt rip you off on everything used to heat your home or food when it gets -40 or summat! i put 4 gallons (imperial) about 18 litres of diesel in my car yesterday....to you that would of cost $36!

  • anyway that aside i was just trying to imply to someone that the fuel here couldnt be 'gelled' other wise theres no way it would of started, unless he poured warm water over the injector lines or has used an engine block heater. , beleive and do what works for you i always say. I'm not a mechanic im a diesel engine enthusiast, who likes to work on his own vehicle and get to know it better, and have the awarding feeling each time i need to worked on my car and finish the work, and save cash too.

  • i'm agree with you:

    Engine problems?? nothing!!!

the only thing, it's a very small car, but with POWERFUL ENGINE

  • @TGXtrucker - Yeah this cars got a MEGA POWERFUL, tarmac ripping up, torque making engine, hasnt it?

  • SMART c'est trop cool! Je viens d'acheter une neuve! Je vais la chercher vendredi prochain !

    SMART 4 ever...

  • mine won't start if its below -22c.

  • Do you do a lot of short distances with your car?? Do you know "Kleenflo" diesel fuel conditioner??? Try it!! It's helpful! ; )

  • -26 c is nothing

  • Of course, when you live in california, a cold morning of -26°c to the province of Québec is "NOTHING" for you!! So... I'm happy for you.

  • the warning chime sounds just like Ford's warning chime. I wonder if Ford owns the smart cars too!

  • Mercedes and VW group makes the best diesel engines at all!!German motors technology invincible!!

  • Ahahahaha, don't get too cocky.

  • I had Jetta 1,6 TD,Passat B3 1,9D,Passat B4 1,9TDI,Audi A6 2,5TDI,now i have E 200 CDI, all of them very strong and elastic,made many kilometers without any problems,like lots of my friends with similar cars.Now you can laugh.

  • I'm still laughing, because they are still some of the most unreliable cars sold here in North America. Refined? Yes, very much so, I've never driven a car with a more solid, comfortable interior. Are they reliable? Fuck no, they are expensive to maintain, and when something goes wrong (which frequently happens), you won't leave without paying at least $700. I really could care less about what you get in Europe, I'm talking about the mexican made shit that VW and Benz throws at us here.

  • At Mercedes know what they're doin'...

I love this little cutey too, btw

  • nice starter, shame i'd never drive it in snow with the crap crash test results they have.

  • Wish we had nice white fluffy snow like that.

    Mercedes make excellent vehicles.

  • That temperatures we have also in Germany these days but not in my area. At -10° it sounds badly but after a few kilometers ok.

Gibts den 44 auch in Kanada?

  • Pretty impressive. Smarts are the coolest cars ever!!

  • How many km has it? I want to see when it has about 100,000 km if it stars... along the compression go over!

But it is a nice engine, take care the car in a box, it's better!

  • and it doesnt smoke ?!

  • No! Exhaust smoke is produce by high exhaust gaz temp. This engine is so efficient that the exhaust gaz contained less heat on idle engine speed. The exhaust tubing stay cold and no condensation = no smoke are produce. And... à CDI isn't suposed to smoke! :p

  • Veramente "bonne bestiole" XD

  • it looks like a frozen box!!! :D

  • 2:08 une petite tape sur les épaules lol

  • Good battery you have!

  • When the Christ have you heard a golf cart that sounds like that?! HA ha! I just purchased mine yesterday, and if it drives like a car, sounds like a truck, and looks like nothing on the market, then it's a Smart! Drive one and get back to me!

  • if it looks like a golf cart, drives like a golf kart, and sounds like a golf kart, then its a golf kart!

  • look cdi and learn diesel rulz !

  • poor little diesel colld brrrrrrr

  • That is great Smart Power xD

  • cycling the glow plugs! nice!

that's a bad little car! where is that and how much does it cost?

  • this sounds like a dieselengine startup of a tanker! How is the performance in the period after cold starting it?

  • I love it sound!! It's the wolrd smalest CDI diesel engine! When the warm up is finish, performance are allowable! The speed limit is electronicaly limited to 135km/h (3000RPM on the 6th speed). It's enought for me and with a diesel fuel consumption of 60 / 80 milles per gallon... I realy dont care about performance. I dont bought this car for race but to reduce my fossil fuel dependency!

  • I wish I could buy a smart cdi in US :(

  • I hope too that smart CDI comeback soon! I like the new 451 model (built for U.S. market = gaz engine) but with an engine that can't do better than 6l/100km. With my smart CDI I'm reach 3,5L/100km when handle with care!! I realy love my smart CDI!!
