All I can say is that USA's passing collapsed after change of ends, that's why they weren't able to keep their momentum. Good playing though.

Russia did win Olympic medals in 1988 and 1980. The Soviet Union / CIS / USSR / Russian teams also medaled in the 1970's, 1960's & 1950's. They have the most medals actually. Lately, Cuba, China, and Brazil have dominated women's volleyball.

This Russian tream was definitely a very strong tema capable of winning Championships. But I think they don't have that winning attitude. They were a lot of times very close to winning against their nemesis Cuba, but to no avail. Nevertheless, this is my most favorite Russian volleyball line-up ever, and I will always be a solid Russian fan. Go Russia!

guys i think the 2004 finals was the most heartbreaking..after they took the first two sets...they lost the third one..but in the forthset they lead 23-21...that was pretty close...

if only artamonova was injured..or tischenko was 100percent.....they could won the match

Russia had a comfortable 2-0 set lead against Cuba that year in the gold medal match. What a heartbreaking loss for them in that final. And they had the best team that year with Artamonova, Chachkova, Godina and Tischenko.

but their best team could not stop the better team of cuba.their "comfortable" lead of 2 sets both were won over the 25th point.Cuba on the other hand had an easier time dispatching them in the 3rd-5th sets.See the score for yourself.Saw the finals live on tv.Cuba was stunningly great!

There is something about Artamonova's hitting that's just spectacular. I mean Sokolova and Godina are great too but Artamonova just takes my breath away with that big swing of hers.

I have some videos of hers and she is just AMAZING!! She can pass, she can block, she can serve pretty well, but when she spikes, that´s when I she takes my breath away as well!
