okay in the book by bram stoker mina helps them get rid and kill dracula..she doesn't want to be a vampire she finds him repulsive and satanic not attractive like the movie and lucy doesn't want to be a vampire and isn't attracted to dracula either. movie totally deviates from the real story

Well heres the thing ... Dracula was pissed off at Jonathon Harker, Because he had Mina, And he didnt ... So why the hell did he take it out on poor Lucy?? lol
lucy is awesome in this movie, this whole movie is amazing, but she's totally different in the novel, in the book she is a completely innocent and naiive girl in love whose sexuality explotes when she turns into the vampire
And there wouldn't have been. I don't get why the put it in there on that film clip. It's sort of stupid. Lucy used her sexuality in the book, but it was against men not women. I think they just added it in for the whol Lesbian-vamp-girl on girl thing. Stupid.
He bit her because she was seated on a suicide's seat in the cemetary that Dracula was resting under not too long after he arrived in Whitby on The Demeter,
As to Dracula's motivations, they're a little vague in the Stoker novel, it's generally accepted though that he planned to 'turn' Lucy and Mina early on.
Leslie S. Klinger's
'The New Annotated Dracula' gives some insight into Dracula's likely motivations.
ok I get the whole Lucy theory but how did Dracula know that Mina even existed? Apparently that in the book, Dracula was in love with Mina. But how, exactly? Did he just randomly saw her walking down a street or something? Or does it have to do with her being Lucy's best friend? And has it ever been specified that the 3 women in Dracula's castle are really his brides?
Dracula knew Mina existed because Harker was writing letters to her back in England from Dracula's castle in Transylvania which Dracula saw,
IMHO he became aware of Mina when Dracula became psychically attuned to Lucy, however Dracula wasn't in love with Mina in the Stoker novel he was something closer to a predatory rapist in Stoker's story.
Plus Mina isn't in love with Dracula in the story, she requests Van Helsing to kill her with a stake if she turns into a vampire,
As to the 3 women Van Helsing had stated at chapter 27 that the primary female vampire has a tomb that is
"as if made to one beloved"
it's generally accepted that these are Dracula's mistresses if not his wives although their remarks about his unloving nature and his rough treatment of the fair vampire doesn't show too much affection on his part IMHO.
I saw the movie, but have not read the book yet. Did Lucy and Mina have an "affair" in the book? Because I saw them kissing in the movie, so I wondered was there more of a story to that.
i never saw the film and i never read the book but god knows that i have read countless other vampire books and i prefer other theories better even though i know that this is the original one and i respect that but there are a lot of interesting theories out there from different authors.
I agree with MarieEtOlivia.. Lucy is not like that at all.. They should at least give the movie another title. It would be ok if it wasn't named 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'. Lucy would blush and hit that book of kama sutra away. She was clean, polite, sweet and gentle in the book. In the movie she was flirty, outrageous and pretty rude. Sure, both didn't need to be innocent and pure, but that's how HE wrote it. It should be respected.
I have never read Dracula, and this confuses me. What I think know is that lucy is a vampire- was she born one or bitten,or am i totaly wrong that she is one?
The novel´s Lucy was delicate , feminine, sensuous little flirt, "lily-like girl" with "unequalled sweetness and purity". Vampire women were strong, but enslaved by their Lord and Master - Devil´s whores. Very anti-feminist book, so naturally it disturbs feminists and is rewitten by them or for them.
CONT. Still, I admire the pure beauty of the movie - the wonderful fruitcake visuals, including Lucy and Mina! And Lucy is beautiful like an angel with her red hair and lovely fashion sense - full of life and indeed dazzlingly clean, like just risen from the luxury bath! D,
silly. It is not anti-feminist at all. You crack me up. if anything al th eplot devices and enslavement you mention merely are witnesses and evidence for what feminists talk about. Just because some women are enslaved doesn't mean all can or will be. Just because some men are doesn't mean all are. Plenty of so-called whores are empowered courtesans who have ruled the world.
But modern writers read something very anti-feminist to it, because they add feminism and try make Lucy as a "victim who got what she deserved" and Mina as "New woman" - 1979 and 1992 versions, book rewitings etc.
Oh boo hoo hoo. You know Francis Ford Copolla could have made 'the story of Lucy' into what Bram Stoker actually wrote it to be: the story of a pure, chaste, innocent beauty whose goodness was destroyed by Death. Instead they made her into a disgusting sluttish little madam whose every line of dialogue involves penis's and karma sutra! Its sick! Yeah, shes FABULOUS as a vampire, but elsewhere...she's not Bram Stokers 'light of the west' at all!!!
Yeah...but who would want to watch it? Stoker's novel is so rapt with racial metaphor's it's ridiculous. Do BOTH of the leading ladies need to be pure and innocent visions of Anglo Chastity? Lucy's character was real in the film. Definitely moreso than in the Novel.
I would say that the lesbian behavior could be a comment on the restructuring of society post industrial revolution. The idea of an individual as a self with desires begins to emerge as familial ties are no longer necessary for survival. Experimentation with these urges begin to emerge; though, because they are not part of popular discourse, they go unnoticed or ignored in the collective knowledge. Mina and Lucy may have just been experimenting with these desires.
Well she isn't a slut in the traditional sense of the word. She just flirts with everyone and is a little more sexed up compared to the book verison of herself. :X
On any normal day, no one would take that for anything other than sardonic or funny, as in, "yeah, it's offensive - the ugly lowest common denominator culture that gets sold by greedy marketers..." 'n all that; but because this is the internet, such a remark might actually, no kidding, for really real, be serious... so apologies that I can't tell one way or the other.
I never did like Lucey in the book or the movie same with Van Helsing I found them to both rather boring and annoying charcters. But in the 1992 verison of the movie they gave Helsing charcter.
