  • I don't know what it is about this ad that made me like it this much that I've seen it at least 50 times.

  • Cool commercial but I HATE all his movies.

  • Comment removed

  • "Can I get my snack?". You're eating it.

  • I don't know if it's just me but I keep seeing little props from Anderson's other films. The guy holding the tennis racket like Richie Tenenbaum, the girl had on pink gloves like Margot and I'm pretty sure the guy w/ the beard at the beginning was in Darjeeling Limited.

  • @33rosyposy In Rushmore, Max is also seen with a Jacques Cousteau book and watching a Cousteau film. In Life Aquatic there's a Bottle Rocket reference when they all pretend to point and shoot a gun. THere's a lot of other ones that I'm sure have not been spotted yet.

  • This is funny considering that so many of the characters in his movies display a complete lack of fiscal accountability.

  • I love this so much it's difficult to talk about it.

  • I love the last bit with Robert Yeoman, my favorite director/dp combination ever!

  • Uhm, as someone who is planning on studying film, Wes Anderson has become my favorite director and I am confused as to why there are people that hate him so disrespectfully and also hate his fans. This logic makes absolutely no sense to me.

  • @NoellaBear I know. I love him, i have recently watched his movies and think they are great.

  • @Hudsucker94 You can't rape the love of Wes Anderson out of me. Muahahaha!

  • the only time we would see a commercial this long is in a movie theater... i boycott companies who advertise in movie theaters because we already sit through previews... rendering this commercial ineffective. also wes anderson thinks he's the man and this is more of an opportunity for him to make himself look awesome than a credit card commercial... thumbs down

  • Glad to see someone else thinks Anderson sucks as much as me.

  • i want to marry this man.

  • Awesome... purely awesome!

  • Awful...purely awful. It's one thing to like the guys movies, if you can even call them that, but you don't need to fag out over it. You were a mistake, and parents should have been sterilized.

  • "Can I get my snack?"

    "You're eating it."

    Oh Wes, I love you

  • are those my birds? we need those

  • Get Rewards for earning Credits at W W W (DOT) CONGOBI (DOT) com

  • watch the film DAY FOR NIGHT by Francois Truffaut and you'll get it

  • wtf theres a commercial before the commercial?

  • im going to be regrettably obnoxious here and write a really superfluous comment, albeit one that i feel ought to be said: YES YES YES !! hahahahaha

  • Wes Awesomerson

  • What is Wes Anderson wearing?

  • I recognize this song from fantastic mr. fox

  • Wes Anderson makes me want a credit card =P... and a sandwich...

  • I dont mind that he always uses the same actors for nearly all his films and I dont mind that theyre in here but c'mon, for a commercial? really? thats a little overkill.

  • @alkalinecuban He's parodying himself. That's the whole point - he's parodying the fact that he uses the same actors all the time.

  • @bethie777 It really doesn't seem like a parody

  • @alkalinecuban That's because his sense of humour is very, very dry. If you were a hardcore Anderson fan like myself you'd understand :)

  • @bethie777 Yeah I've seen all his movies and I'm familiar with the aesthetics and humor he employs but it seems out of character for him to parody himself. Unless he says himself that it was a parody then I'm going to go ahead and say its just Wes being Wes like usual.

  • His movies have anything but humour in them. Either you're a moron or lying to yourself. Both I'm saying.

  • @Hudsucker94 That was uncalled for. Why are you so angry?

  • @Hudsucker94 yeah, that reflects worse on you than it does on everyone else here.

  • @Hudsucker94 i think you have to have a certain level of intelligence to get wes anderson..but more importantly why are you so angry? if ive learned anything from south park its that most angry people have a low T.M.I.

  • @Hudsucker94 YA! you tell him! he needs to know that having a different opinion than you is unacceptable!!

  • You people are idiots beyond all possible understanding.

  • This is a bite from Truffaut's Day for Night. Anderson put a nice touch on it though.

  • I hate all type of credit cards but I just love this american express comercials xD

  • wes anderson is mad cool, feel me?

  • Is that the geisha?!

  • Favourite commercial ever.

  • Such a brilliant filmmaker. I consider Wes Anderson the Stanley Kubrick of our time, based on his techniques and styles.

  • @haleyastronomer really? explain.

  • Don't forget the 25.99% rate. I recommend Visa if you must!

  • "She's a big fan of yours."

    "Is that true?"

    *shrugs*

  • Remember seeing this on television for the first time. Since I've long expressed interest in making film, my mum said afterwords, "that's what you're going to have to look forward to, you know?"

"Thank god. It's just what I've always been dreaming of."

  • He's brilliant. I love him.

  • not enough smoke and the snow was too loud. hahahahahahaha brilliant.

  • i remember this commercial & i finally found it. i love the end its how i remembered it

"are those my birds" i think so "i needed those"

  • sold

  • " ....any way american express commercial" hahah

  • I love this!! I love ALLLL of his movies but my favorite Wes Anderson film is The Royal Tenenbaums

  • he is so precious.

  • @ggggggggggg383 dear wes, actually please don't

  • COmmercial is nice but the reality is differnt. I got 2 AmeX cards because I wanted to get cash back rewards. So i used the card and made some charges and believe it or not they asked me to send my TAX INFO!!!! Even tho I just charged 50% of my limit! Ofcourse I refused to send them my private info and they canceled the account and NEVER PAID MY CASH BACK. I had to pay my balances in full in 7 days. AMEX=CROOKS BEWARE

  • @zekomrkva You can pretty much say that about any bank. They keep charging my father's credit card huge service fees

To hell with those bastards. Damn them all

  • oh wes, do you not have enough money

  • Is Francois (guy who got blown to peices) Roman Coppola? :/ Am I the only person who caught that?

  • american express is garbage

  • FRANCOIS!

  • i love how there's the score from Truffaut's "Day for Night" ... fits perfectly.

  • Yeah, this hack wishes he could be as good as Truffaut.

  • Mannn he's just so weird!! I'm crazy about this guy!!

  • haha "That's Blackmail" "I guess it works"

  • where was Jason Schwartzman in the commercial?

  • @bosox381 Are you serious? He's the one, at the very beginning, who says, "We'll never make it Francoise!"

  • @Enright9591 Sorry the quality isn't good, he looks Indian...

  • @bosox381 Haha. Yeah he kind of does.

  • Where can I download this commercial? I really, really NEED it for an assessment piece I am doing in a few weeks. Does anybody know where to download it? Doesn't have to be free. I will pay for it if I have to. I just need to know where to get it AND now.

  • @welshca type in 'keepvid' to google and you just have to type in the url

  • Wolly wolodarski: "That's blackmail!"

  • Thank God for Wes Anderson films.

  • hey this song was used again in fantastic mr fox!

  • Does any one know the music in the background?

  • this used to be my favorite commercial of all time. it still is.

  • Great homage to 'Day for Night' (La Nuit Americaine) by Truffaut. I watched this ad before the movie, and upon finishing the film I came back to see this. The music, the gun choosing, and in general the whole idea of the camera travelling through a film set with the director keeping calm in the chaos is straight from the film. Perfect.

  • @callmemrfarenheit very interesting! I haven't yet seen "Day for Night" but this also calls back to the scene from "8½" where Guido walks around a set picking out actors.

  • Es tan buena como La Nuit Americaine de Truffaut, a la que sin duda homenajea... GENIAL!

  • I can't help but feel Wes Anderson always puts style before substance. But maybe there is substance in his movies (most of which I like) that I'm just failing to appreciate.

  • Does anyone else think that Wes is EXACTLY like Max Fischer in this?

Perhaps Max was written as an exaggeration of Wes Anderson?

  • That's a great point. I remember reading that the character Max was something of an extension of Wes Anderson. Actually Rushmore was filmed at the school Anderson attended as a kid.

  • awesome guy!

  • i remember seeing this a long time ago, i never realized it was Wes Anderson. He is a great director

  • ...this commercial...

I saw it on TV. Twice.

  • "Can I get a 357. with a Bayonet?"

  • heimag jemand quatschen bin ne ganz liebe aber irgendwie total einsam im moment

  • heyhab total lust bilder tauschen und chatn bin so einsam brauche dringend beschäftigung

  • Wes Anderson=Awesome.

This makes me want to apply for a credit card, and fill out the forms with a blinking ballpoint pen.

This also makes me want to put on a top hat if I ever see one of my friends die.

  • @FairyTaleFan It's a fedora :P

  • More like Wes Anderson=Awful.

  • ...Fantastic Mr. Fox...

I saw it in theaters. Twice.

  • hmzbin heute total streichel bedürftig , wer will schreiben oder telefonieren

  • so handsome.

  • Not to mention the AE card's design is ATROCIOUS. Ugh.

  • I wouldn't touch American Express with a 500-foot pole. Does anyone still even HAVE an American Express card? How many people in the US still use them? 10?

  • I have it, it gives great rewards. Of course I pay each month off.

  • How great is Wes? Gotta love him. "Is that true?" *shrugs*

"Are those my birds? I need those"

"I want my snack." "You're eating it."

And it's fantastic that Le Grand Choral is used in this and is also used in Mr. Fox.

  • he is a genious

  • it's a parody of a francois truffault scene.

    La nuit américaine

  • DRUNK TANK XD

  • DRUNK TANK

  • :D wes ur my boy

  • DRUNK TANK!

  • Tank of Drunking.

  • .357 with a bayonet

  • drunk tank

  • drunk tank

  • driz-unk tiz-ank

  • Drunk Tank xD

  • Drunk Tank

  • Drunk Tank FTW!!!

  • he's a god damn genius

  • Me love Wes Anderson.

  • It's several takes stitched together well, looks like a single take. Impressive.

  • Way to shit on Michael Bay.

  • Wow, that's a really long take. Very well rehearsed.

  • I love how self-depricating this commercial is.

  • that was the most amazing commercial i've ever seen

  • I NEED THOSE.

  • My card is also American Express.

  • if only stanely krubrick would have done one of these

  • Yes, can the boy tell time?

  • oh lord no

  • That was nice!

  • Francois!!!

  • lol "are those my birds?" "i think so." "i need those..."

  • I'm anxiously awaiting Wes' new film The Fantastic Mr. Fox. I'm sad that Waris Ahluwalia (The man always wearing the turban) isn't in it though :(

  • Wouldn't it be great if we heard a train go by in the distance?

  • I need a father for this baby.

  • I need a baby for this father.

  • not really

  • probably be annoying.

  • I think it'd kind of be annoying

  • fantastic mr fox?

  • I've never seen a bond-company stooge stick his neck out like that.

  • hahaha

  • Don't point that gun at him, he's an unpaid intern.

  • What a genuine commercial.

  • aw, no bill murray D:

  • I don't see anything wrong with directing a commercial if it's done well.

  • i really liked this but one thing struck me as weird he moves his sandwich from left to right hand to shake the girls hand with the wrong hand. i think i said hand too many times

  • Jason:"Why would i put on a hat when my best fri...

    Wes:"It sounds fake!"

  • 357 mag with a bayonet

    lol.........

  • "Yeah, what a sell out.. Like all the other "sell outs" that did American Express ads: Kate Winslet, Robert De Niro, Tina Fey, Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, Tiger Woods, Shaun White, Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Martin Scorsese, M. Night Shyamalan, Ken Watanabe and Beyonce Knowles."

this comment is supposed to be sarcastic, but instead reads entirely factual. Except Wes is still the man.

  • we see your point :D

  • lol @ the bill hicks quote

commercial is so good it almost makes me not hate him for selling out

  • so want him to make this movie

  • Wow. Even his commercials are delightful. Makes me almost not hate American Express...

  • i love this guy, and his films

  • The first time I saw the commercial, no wait, I can't express how happy it made me.

    There.

  • "Sucker of Satan's cock!"

  • Yeah true but I still love his movies as well.

  • Tons of people have made them. Scorsese, Gwyneth Paltrow , Tiger Woods etc etc

  • i dont think he did it because of money- it was a good laugh to watch him.

  • when artists or directors approach work like this, either they can do an ad and let it hurt them, or they can take the ad and make it theirs completly. no way is he selling out here; instead he delivers a tongue in cheek self parody that raises the bar for what a commercial should be. five stars.

Also: what song is playing? id like to know.

  • Its from Francois Truffaut's 1973 classic "Day for Night," which this commercial seems to be one big tribute to.

  • Le Grand Choral. It was also featured in Fantastic Mr. Fox.

  • I wonder how may takes the continuous shot took? He stutters a lot in real life conversations.

  • does anybody know the piece that is being played in the background??

  • I need a .357 with a bayonet for my next production, for sure

  • If you work in the industry and like wes anderson, this is a hilarious representation of what 'its really like' -or at best- a parody of what the industry is like. Well done.

    fun.

  • sell out

  • Yeah, what a sell out.. Like all the other "sell outs" that did American Express ads: Kate Winslet, Robert De Niro, Tina Fey, Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, Tiger Woods, Shaun White, Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Martin Scorsese, M. Night Shyamalan, Ken Watanabe and Beyonce Knowles.

  • This is crappy.

  • "are those my birds? i need those..."

  • Note how the music in this video is the theme music from La Nuit Americaine, also.

  • Normally i would scream sellout but this has to be the best kind"! :P

  • butth0le, i happen to be well acquainted and involved with the industry, so thanks for the personal insult. ass.
