We had dogs all our young lives, and one was a pit bull. We had him for about 4 or 5 years. He was outside, and came in and I never saw him but he grabbed hold of my face/head and punctured my eye, so I lost an eye. There was no explanation for it. I became allergic to dogs and cats and was in hospital for a few weeks and that was when I found out my Dad put our dog down. Made me feel sick.
But for the best as it turned out, as I was not able to be near an animal at all from then on.
Hurray for a Dad who is close enough to intervene should anything go wrong. And he isn't on camera or in the audio saying how safe Pit Bulls are!
Often it could be the baby falling or poking the dog in the eye which may provoke a snap, not the dogs 'fault'. But this Dad (I think it was) is close enough to be in charge, for those just in case moments.
I have seen a couple of videos last night where both parents thought is was clever to make fun of those who like me are weary of any dogs
My neighbors used to have the sweetest pit bull. She would get out while they weren't home and I'd need to bring her in. She'd try so hard to get my chihuahua to play with her, but was always very careful not to jump on her. Unfortunately my chihuahua's a snob and won't play with other dogs. I had to lock my one cat up, but only because he was trying to attack her (he's a big Maine Coon).
I cant believe these dogs are actually banned from where i live in the uk, the police and government are blaming the dogs for the owners wrongdoing. all dogs will be good if you treat them good. fuck the government and fuck david cameron
I think these type of dogs are misunderstood. I am only 14 and i believe that these dogs arent harmful at all. The owners treat there dogs like crap and the dog will turn out will crap and it could hurt someone, but if you treat you dog with respect and care for it you wont have any problems with it. Treat your animals with respect :))

@L0vEly702 they are, i had a white one when i was 7 her name was ghost and she just followed me everrywhere and when i found a stray cat (we think she was abandoned cuz she was extremely gentle) both the pit and her lay together and when she had kittens my dog would help protect them, she was really caring :) and i miss her :( she died from old age

People hate things they are afraid of. Likewise, to haters out there who have never really get to know something so dear to others, should just keep all the comments to yourself. @Ih8stupidhumans i agree.. i've worked with dogs for 10years and the ONLY breeds that make me automatically nervous are Dalmatian and Chow Chow and especially so if around children. Also one of the few times I've been bit was a Lab. I have NEVER been bitten by a Pit and the aggressive Pits I have seen came from junkyards or bad situations and weren't "family dogs".

The one dog that always inspired fear in me was the Akita's I guess because they are so big and have the wolf-like tendancies, as a small child there was a lady that had one down the road from my house and when I would walk by that dog would go crazy like it wanted nothing more than to kill me. Beautiful dog....terrible attitude toward things smaller than itself.
@Ih8stupidhumans wow, it is crazy that you say that cause i almost got mauled by an akita. one of the most scariest moments of my life. i was lucky enough to get over a fence in time but it got my shoe and i am certain that if i had been a sec slower it would have been a really awful outcome. on the other hand i have dealt with a lot of really good akitas. my friend has one that is an absolute teddy bear.. but they are dogs that should be well trained and socialized at a young age.

obviously the owner would not put the baby with their pet if they had any doubts in his personality. Every dog is very different and its all about their upbringing. Some people just don't understand the bonds/trust between man and k9 friends.
I have a roti pit mix and yes he is truly gentle but when i have kids there will be none of this, not just due to his breed but because of the size. say your dog is gentle and wouldnt hurt a fly, this is stupid, to have a baby around any dog like this is stupid, it is not a risk that is worth the life time of regret and heart ache

when my wife was pregnant or nursing the kids outside, she woudl have both pitties on either side of her, making sure no one would approach them while they were eating. If they hear the kids crying, they woudl rush inside to make sure their ok and HAD to check EVERY INCH of them to make sure they were ok. He would have to make sure either of our babies werent hurt in any way. They are such loving caring, and protective dogs.
Absolutely gorgeous. I had one 14 years old that jsut passed away. My kids loved him more than anything. If a dog shows offers its belly, it means it has ABSOLUTE trust in you, You can see the love in this dogs face. I bet a strangere wouldnt be able to get within ten feet of that baby.
Also, pit bulls are great pets. I have friends who had them. You have to not pay attention to what your TV is telling you as you are getting the political line, like the cooling earth is warming.

Pits are the only naturally people friendly breed. Pits do make excellent family dogs if they come from a good strain. Which like I said below most strains have had their agression bred out of them. You need to know the bloodline, trust the breeder, raise the dog right which also includes proper socialization. Any dog can be agressive towards children and/or adults. Just to give you an example. Statistically speaking the golden retreaver is high up on the list of attacking people.

It has been documented that pitbulls have more patience with children than most other breeds. Other breeds bite more often but do not do the damage in some cases as a pitbull can. My pit is very loving and watches over kids. It is the spineless men that use them as weapons, but they train them that way.

I'm a dog lover. I've heard Pitbulls ARE loving dogs, smart dogs. A guy I know had 2 of them & they were loyal as & he loved them, however he believes they have something in the brain like a switch that turns (sort of like a mental illness) that both dogs got and they turned savage (not by their fault) and didn't recognise him anymore. Really sad. I definitely agree the media only shows dogs that have been raised to fight.

This so called training is simple...they tie them up or keep them in a kennel only take them out to put them on a treadmill for a lil bit of excersize if that! Or just let them out when ever there maybe a cat, raccoon, possum, or other small critter so they use the hunter prey instinct to get used to killing....the Anger ,Rage and Determination is all amplified from lack of socialization, excercise, affection and alienation from a pack family.

These parents need to be in jail. Risking their baby's life like that. Pit bulls can turn on a dime. My boss raised a pit from birth. Treated her like she was a child. And still, one day out of the blue, it turned on her. She got out of the way with the help of a neighbor, but the pit killed the family cat, Buttercup. They put the pit to sleep. People are fooling themselves when they say pits are safe.

A little 3-year old girl in Fort Worth Texas was killed by 3 pit bulls last week. She did nothing to provoke them. So - all you pit bull experts - tell me - is that the fault of the dog or the owner? I do not know much about pit bulls but I do know they are killing machines sometimes.

Yes, it does seem like the pit bulls are the ones in the media for killing....the key word is the media. Those are they only stories they want you to hear. They are not going to report it if it was a lab or whatever else. I have seen that first hand. There was pitbull attack in the news awhile back about the same time a lab mix attacked a kid in my neighborhood...you know which one ended up on the news?

Dogs attack humans, humans attack dogs. We're both predators and in a sick way it's natural. Why would a person beat a dog? Because of the way and environment they were brought up? Among other factors. Same goes for the dog. If you teach a kid to respect animals from an early age then it's very likey they always will. same goes for a dog with humans. We had dogs all our young lives, and one was a pit bull. We had him for about 4 or 5 years. He was outside, and came in and I never saw him but he grabbed hold of my face/head and punctured my eye, so I lost an eye. There was no explanation for it. I became allergic to dogs and cats and was in hospital for a few weeks and that was when I found out my Dad put our dog down. Made me feel sick.
But for the best as it turned out, as I was not able to be near an animal at all from then on.

Hurray for a Dad who is close enough to intervene should anything go wrong. And he isn't on camera or in the audio saying how safe Pit Bulls are!
Often it could be the baby falling or poking the dog in the eye which may provoke a snap, not the dogs 'fault'. But this Dad (I think it was) is close enough to be in charge, for those just in case moments.
I have seen a couple of videos last night where both parents thought is was clever to make fun of those who like me are weary of any dogs

My neighbors used to have the sweetest pit bull. She would get out while they weren't home and I'd need to bring her in. She'd try so hard to get my chihuahua to play with her, but was always very careful not to jump on her. Unfortunately my chihuahua's a snob and won't play with other dogs. I had to lock my one cat up, but only because he was trying to attack her (he's a big Maine Coon).

I think these type of dogs are misunderstood. I am only 14 and i believe that these dogs arent harmful at all. The owners treat there dogs like crap and the dog will turn out will crap and it could hurt someone, but if you treat you dog with respect and care for it you wont have any problems with it. @Ih8stupidhumans i agree.. i've worked with dogs for 10years and the ONLY breeds that make me automatically nervous are Dalmatian and Chow Chow and especially so if around children. Also one of the few times I've been bit was a Lab. I have NEVER been bitten by a Pit and the aggressive Pits I have seen came from junkyards or bad situations and weren't "family dogs".

The one dog that always inspired fear in me was the Akita's I guess because they are so big and have the wolf-like tendancies, as a small child there was a lady that had one down the road from my house and when I would walk by that dog would go crazy like it wanted nothing more than to kill me. Beautiful dog....terrible attitude toward things smaller than itself.

@Ih8stupidhumans wow, it is crazy that you say that cause i almost got mauled by an akita. one of the most scariest moments of my life. i was lucky enough to get over a fence in time but it got my shoe and i am certain that if i had been a sec slower it would have been a really awful outcome. on the other hand i have dealt with a lot of really good akitas. my friend has one that is an absolute teddy bear.. but they are dogs that should be well trained and socialized at a young age.

when my wife was pregnant or nursing the kids outside, she woudl have both pitties on either side of her, making sure no one would approach them while they were eating. If they hear the kids crying, they woudl rush inside to make sure their ok and HAD to check EVERY INCH of them to make sure they were ok. He would have to make sure either of our babies werent hurt in any way. They are such loving caring, and protective dogs.

Absolutely gorgeous. I had one 14 years old that jsut passed away. My kids loved him more than anything. If a dog shows offers its belly, it means it has ABSOLUTE trust in you, You can see the love in this dogs face. I bet a strangere wouldnt be able to get within ten feet of that baby.

Pits are the only naturally people friendly breed. Pits do make excellent family dogs if they come from a good strain. Which like I said below most strains have had their agression bred out of them. You need to know the bloodline, trust the breeder, raise the dog right which also includes proper socialization. Any dog can be agressive towards children and/or adults. Just to give you an example. Statistically speaking the golden retreaver is high up on the list of attacking people.

Dogs need us to protect them, feed them, take care of them and many of us fail to do that. It is the owners fault if it fails to follow through with the responsibility. It has been documented that pitbulls have more patience with children than most other breeds. Other breeds bite more often but do not do the damage in some cases as a pitbull can. My pit is very loving and watches over kids. It is the spineless men that use them as weapons, but they train them that way.

I'm a dog lover. I've heard Pitbulls ARE loving dogs, smart dogs. A guy I know had 2 of them & they were loyal as & he loved them, however he believes they have something in the brain like a switch that turns (sort of like a mental illness) that both dogs got and they turned savage (not by their fault) and didn't recognise him anymore. Really sad. I definitely agree the media only shows dogs that have been raised to fight.

I love all dogs and this one seems extremely friendly. If you think that this is dangerous, then sit and think about what you are assuming. I have a small chihuahua and if i did that with my dog, he'd probably nip the baby. He acts aggressive but is very sweet when unthreatened. He feels the need to protect. This so called training is simple...they tie them up or keep them in a kennel only take them out to put them on a treadmill for a lil bit of excersize if that! Or just let them out when ever there maybe a cat, raccoon, possum, or other small critter so they use the hunter prey instinct to get used to killing....the Anger ,Rage and Determination is all amplified from lack of socialization, excercise, affection and alienation from a pack family.

My pitbull Bruno would NEVER, EVER hurt a child. He always looks up at me with sad eyes, and sits down between my legs... this shows submission, and is the sign of a good dog. The pizza guy can even pat the dog, there's nothing wrong with the pitbull - it's the owners.

And still, one day out of the blue, it turned on her. She got out of the way with the help of a neighbor, but the pit killed the family cat, Buttercup. They put the pit to sleep. And never had one turn on me or any of my family..The only reason why ppl fight them is b.c they LOVE to pls there owners and will do anything for them..Thats why Stubby was used one in ww1.. NO they were not bred to be fighers, do your research they are the most tolerable around children, If they were so aggressive than why do they never bite people when these spineless men fight them, they actually pull them apart during some fights and these dogs never bite them. Deed NOT Breed! irresponsible owners have unpredictable and uncared for dogs. People are often being attacked by dogs somewhere or other, be it a pitbull or a golden retriever. The media LOVE to target this breed because of the hysteria and scare mongering that sell their papers and tv air time. The statistics need closely examined and even then parents who leave their kids unsupervised are the real bloody problem! Its all too easy to blame the dog!

A little 3-year old girl in Fort Worth Texas was killed by 3 pit bulls last week. She did nothing to provoke them. So - all you pit bull experts - tell me - is that the fault of the dog or the owner? I do not know much about pit bulls but I do know they are killing machines sometimes.

I am just wondering why it seems as if it is usually pit bulls that kill or maime people. You don't need to boss me around nor tell me to go read a book. But you do need to check your additude. Yes, it does seem like the pit bulls are the ones in the media for killing....the key word is the media. Those are they only stories they want you to hear. They are not going to report it if it was a lab or whatever else. I have seen that first hand. There was pitbull attack in the news awhile back about the same time a lab mix attacked a kid in my neighborhood...you know which one ended up on the news?

However, I do recall a large black labrador retriever chewing the face off it's owner during the night last year - that did make the news. I suppose all dog breeds, regardless of what type, can be "off" this way. I hope people learn that all pit bulls are not bad. Thanks for the information.

Dogs attack humans, humans attack dogs. We're both predators and in a sick way it's natural. Why would a person beat a dog? Because of the way and environment they were brought up? Among other factors. Same goes for the dog. If you teach a kid to respect animals from an early age then it's very likey they always will. same goes for a dog with humans. It's all about respect, responsibility and firm training. In my opinion.

Here's the reason:
Pitbulls, rotties, dobermans... these are dogs that were bred and raised for fighting and protection. This caused these breeds to develop a reputation for being naturally mean. However, the dogs were only ever doing what they had been trained to do. If golden retrievers were raised to be mean, they'd be mean.
So idiots buy these kinds of dogs, and they neglect and abuse them, and raise them to be mean attack dogs for "protection". It is always the fault of the owner.
