My favorite coaster at Kennywood. This brings back so many memories from my childhood.  The Jackrabbit may have the double dip, but nothing beats the Thunderbolt, IMO.

That first hill is fun. There's no warning. kennywood is a national landmark. It's so charming and nostalgic.

This is the ultimate in wooden rollercoasters! They designed it to follow the lay of the hills. Hence, the fist "hill" has no warning! 1 chain that the cars catch halfway up the second hill! You have to ride this beauty to really get the feel for her!

@finkelink No, I haven't ridden the scream machine, but here're some tips for the Thunderbolt. I just rode it again yesterday lol When you hit a turn, grip the lap bar to keep yourself from shifting into your partner. It keeps your hips, thighs, and lower legs from getting into awkward, cramping positions, also. And if I were you, I'd go with someone larger than yourself. That way, you'll be directed into the car first and you won't get squished :) It always works for me

@finkelink Ive ridden both coasters and they are completely diffrent from each other. Thunderbolt is more of a twister wooden coaster and Great American Scream Machine is more of an out and back wooden coaster. Tbolt is also way less painful if you are prepared for the first part of the lift hill cause it kicks you forward like the brakes on GASM and if you arnt ready for it it can hurt when your a smaller rider. I Love GASM its one of my favs a DEF underated coaster gotta love the airtime.

I was in the front row, and my friend and I went down the hill near where the Phantom and the Thunderbolt crosses, and we got a bump that no one else got, and our hands were up, and that made us hit the Phantom with our hands just as the Phantom was coming. Ouch.

Probably Not in the front. Maybee try for 4th seat...So towards the middle.

Front makes it fast and smooth. Middle is just medium speed I believe. While Back is just really rough

If you want to ride it sooner may I recomend going to Phantom Fright Nights. it's from 7PM-1AM At Kennywood Haunted houses and everything. Half of the rides are open (No water rides or Kiddleland.) It's loads of fun I recomend going. Operating days are from October 1st- 30th :)

@ 1:17 is my most favorite part of Thunderbolt! I was there yesterday and I love Thunderbolt! In my oppinion it was the best roller coaster there. Idk about Sky Rocket and Phantom's Revenge because I didn't ride them.

Great quality. I love this roller coaster, one time I rode it literally the entire day, I only rode about 5-6 other rides one time each. And I stayed from the time Kennywood opens to the closing time.

Best rollercoaster at Kennywood! The phantom may be more intense, but Thunderbolt really spreads the thrills out better. Plus I love these old wooden coasters.

A little tip....At 0:08 don't duck on this ride...Cause I was afraid that I was going to hit my head off the phantom a few years back cause I am really tall and Then I hit my lip off the safety bars and it hurt.....LOL

@patricknedz The Pippin was a larger version of the Jackrabbit basically. The designer for the new Tbolt made the lift hil taller and longer and left the first and last set of drops intact. The old station which ran parallel to the midway had to be moved so the new bowl section could be built. The Tbolt put Kennywood on the map when it was rated #1 rollercoaster in the world by the New York Times in 1974. At one point Kennywood was even considered the "Rollercoaster Capital of The World"

My dad was in line for the Phantom's Revenge and my mom and friend were in line for a drink and i didn't want to wait with them so I decided I was going to ride Thunderbolt and by the time I got off my mom and friend were still in line for a drink and the line for this was as far back up to Ghostwoods Estates and it took less than a half hour to wait to get on the ride.
