@danpole70, thank you for this, I did pick up somethings I had trouble with... but IMO you should have gone into more detail about the middle because it is really tricky.
HI I like your video and completely agree with the left hand. But this piece lots base notes which gives the song it's strength. So I recommend that you also teach the right hand techniques used in the strong bring out it's tricky full sound. I recommend that all guitarist should learn to read sol-phage since you learn the timing which makes a big difference. Thank you for making this video and keep it up. And since you can play this pretty good I thinks you should try Asturias.
in the tabs there is a thing wheree some of the notes are in paranetthes(spelling) like this -0-(0) in the description for the symbols in the tabs it says that its stand for tapping harmonic but i dont know , do u have the answer?
You're fingers move so slow and you make it look so easy! Lol I'm an absolute beginner at guitar and I don't know why I chose to try and play this song (I'm experienced with music on many instruments, just not guitar). Any way, great vid!
@some114 if you aren't that experienced...don't start with this. find easier things to play that eventually work you up to this. :) that's how i learned. you have got to walk before you can crawl. you should already understand that from your previous instruments. :) i admire your bravery though. ;)
@guitardaddy6 Yeah yeah, I know that's what I'm SUPPOSED to do. lol But I like to shoot big or go home! I'm picking it up slowly but surely. Thanks for the advice!
what the fuck this is a pain in the ass, ive been playing my own variation for a while and now im stuck with it. this blurry video makes it hella hard to play it right. it already a difficult song to play! I VISITED THE SITE & THE VIDEO ON THE SITE GOES TO THIS 1 ON YOUTUBE. The quality isnt any better.
Eric Clapton did indeed do a version of Classical Gas for the soundtrack to "Story of Us," but which for some bizarre reason was not included on the movie's soundtrack album. I saw him in concert around that time, and he played the song live.
eric did do a cover and ur playing it lol this is the same version i learnt but it was to easy so im tryin the tommy emmanuel version atm but both awsome peices of music
There is a common misconception that Classical Gas was composed and performed by Eric Clapton, when in fact Clapton was never even known to have recorded a cover of the song. This misconception may possibly be attributed to the fact that Clapton was musical director of, and played much of the guitar music for, the feature film The Story of Us, whereas the version of "Classical Gas" on the film's soundtrack is actually Williams's own solo-guitar re-recording of it, from his 1970 album Hand Made.
Would you be able to demonstrate how Mason Williams played that amazing slow blues solo on Have You Ever Loved a Woman (From Derek and the Dominoes with Duane Allman)?
Looks like a nicely laid out lesson. Loads of the online ones play it differently. It's hard to to get peopel who stick to the original like yourself and Neil Hogan do on here. Just one thing, Eric Clapton never did a version of it.
like everybody else, playing classical gas was my dream too... and you sir, showed me how it really is played... thank you from the bottom of my heart...
I can almost play the entire thing, just the third part, right before you go into the big bang of the song. I cant quite see where your fingers are. You do a wonderful job, but for that part I am lost.
as for the thumb over the neck isnt isnt the "classical" way however HEAPS of people do it and if you watch tommy emmanuel he does it quite a bit..its really useful when you need to mute the bottom strings also....and i reckon if your playing really well who cares HOW your playing?!?!
Thank you verry much, once I herd this song I became upsest and I had to learn it, I mannaged it now in a couple of minutes, now I only need to work on speed. OMFG THANK YOU SO MUCH you dont know how greatfull I am!
Yes my teacher did too, but over the years of teaching and seeing hundreds possibly thousands of different student styles and limitations on what they can do. I believe that even if you have to use your nose to play the song well, then use your nose (this is an extreme example but you get the idea). Let's say you were born with 6 fingers (5 & 1 thumb). It would be a shortsight on the teachers behalf not to get that lesson to use the mutant extra finger!
Indeed, Indeed, He was a very bad teacher however. (claimed that Tab came from the devil) I've seen a lot of people playing with the thumb over, Many guitarists I know say its easier to play like this.
@InAShallowGrave its how hendrix and clapton play it.. dw lol its still how u cna play, i do it too sometimes, but mostly normal bar chords coz i'm more of a classical guitarest
@InAShallowGrave Playing with your thumb behind your neck is a good practice because it allows you to hit a wider array of notes with better accuracy and speed. However, most songs, especially when strumming chords, don't require this, which is why most people don't, it is easier to keep bass strings from ringing with the thumb. Otherwise you have to actually practice to not hit them.
Been meaning to learn this for years, and this helped very much. Thanks.

Tell your teacher that jimmy hendrix kept his thumb over the top of the neck and used his thumb to play notes over the top of the neck as well,
Many guitarist use there thumb to top off chords, especially BADASS guitarist from the good era of music aka the 60's and 70's

Clapton NEVER did a cover of classical gas.
Maybe people have a misconception because they download from limewire under the artist ERIC CLAPTON.
