@KeezeeD It's not meant to be worship. In many cities, churches are often the only venue that will book all-ages shows, or shows during the day. Generally some of the proceeds do go to the church, but the people performing aren't members - or even religious at all. It's the same deal here in DC - since the punk scene is largely under 21, you often see flyers with pentagrams on them advertising church shows. It is ironic.
