It's not a weapon, it's a fuel tank. They were testing it to see how it would fall as it was being jettisoned. The A4 Skyhawk was a chase plane observing, and was a bit too close obviously.

I know where you are coming from, the first view from below could be either, but later you see the semi circular intakes mounted high on the sides, and the triangular wing shape. The Hawk intakes are much smaller and set at the wing root while the wing is longer, more a traditional wing shape rather than a delta. Also the cockpit, though the same shape, is much higher set on the TA-4, the hawk cockpit is lower.
