I remember this happening I saw it on the news, the crash killed 6 people and the drag car driver Troy Warren Critchley got fined $30,000. Also he got 18 months probation.
While I agree the people who organized the event fucked up by having the spectators WAY too close, I do have to say that the driver should have had the presence of mind to think and say that he wasn't comfortable running the car that close to the crowd. If he had been racing for as long as I imagine he had been, he would have known that it was an unsafe situation.
Troy is completely innocent. he should have never been charged. i believe it was the fault of the organisers of the event. RIP for those who died but i still believe Troy was a great racer.
I am from the town this happened in and there was never any who drove like that through the parade. It was a bad decision on the driver's part, the police, mayor and the people who ran the event to let someone drive that kind of race car through the streets where hundreds of people were standing unprotected. It's a shame some of you can say that the people who died were idiots for standing that close. Shame on you! Let's just hope you never lose anyone u love in a freak accident.
Ok with complete respect to those who died but why would they let the public stand that close and why not put barriers up but that is part of the drivers fault
I was there that day :/ it scared the shit out of me because alot of my friends were standing over that way and 2 of my friends that were over there died :(
@tknight19 I asked you about respecting the dead ? What does this mean ? They are dead.. gone ? Why are you assuming deceased persons ( disembodied spirits according to most if not all religions ) are resting ?
@tknight19 How do you "respect" dead people who were in fact lining a corridor of death ? What does respect mean to you ? An idiot is an idiot. Nothing to be ashamed of if they stop being an idiot.
hes using treadless tires on a regular road...its not designed for what he was doing, plus he was goin pretty quick there. Race tracks are specially designed so that the cars keep traction on the road, even when doing burnouts.
road conditions caused the crash... yeah ok. way to take responsibility... why not say, oh i over corrected, or oh, gave her a little too much fuel.. damn man.... pathetic.
@snipp911 organisers can take the responsibility thanks. he was doing what he is paid to do, he didnt know it was going to go wrong. the organisers should have used their heads and put some barriers up, surely that is a law? wtf were the organisers thinking?
@IBangedHerTwice ull have to answer to god for that comment, hope u rot in hell u sorry peice of shit....if u lived near me id have ur ass shot and thrown in the fuckin river for that comment
@tiffanycannon123 Ha wtf dude? Answer to god huh? Your retarded, obviously banging your dad to much. All you hill billies stick together, pretty pathetic. If you knew a good life, you would get an education past the 2nd grade.
@IBangedHerTwice whats pathetic is you lack you compassion for those who died it dont matter if it had been a car show accident like this or a random accident on the street peoples lives were taken and distroyed in a matter of just a few seconds. I think you need to grow up and get a life!!!!
@juggernautxtr thats true and even a drag race solo pass isn't called a race it's called a pass or test run this guy has no idea wot he is talking bout plus this guy wasn't racing any way he was doing a burnout to entertain the crowd lol
exactly spikex68.....i mean they had mustangs camaros ford rangers ford pintos all doin burn outs like they do every year..it is a charity event they have every year called CARS FOR KIDS..and they always end it with a BURNOUT SHOW, not a drag race...i love it to when people try to talk about shit they dont have a clue about whats goin on and why it happend...
Thanks jlambert38834 for shedding some light to these morons that wouldn't know a "race" if it ran them over. Love how the media likes to call it a drag race too. Here's a shocker folks: You can find this going on in just about every town across the nation in the summer. Shit happens, get over it or hide in the safety of your home. All those people lined up on the side of the road thought it was great until the crash happened.
i been drag racing for 25 years... and i would never do a burnout in public with a car like that.. thats fucken insanity and the driver should have known better... dumb fuck no brains.... people no fucken brains..
this was a burnout show dumb fucks no drag raceing was involved i was there i saw the fuckin shit happen..but yall are right that car should of never been there doin that shit...do yall know what its like seeing people die...people gett thrown in the fuckin air from a car..i couldnt sleep for days after seeing this happen..that car was way to powerful to be on that highway doin a burnout.they usually have regular cars that did it.that was the first year they used a drag car and probly the last
wtf is this no guard rails no track prep its just a regular fucking street of course something bad is going to happen i hope the dumbfucks who allowed racing in those conditions get hit by a car
@jsk8drummer yep , this never should have gone ahead and all those people standing on both sides of the road all the way down the road should never have been standing there in the first place , heck in proper drag strips there is concrete barriers for the entire length of track , and absolutley nobody is allowed to enter on the track for safety reasons , the driver should have refused to do the event cos of the people on the road & the organisers should get jail for life for allowing it
@jsk8drummer He wasnt "Racing".He was doing a burnout. Were there a lot of things wrong here in hind sight? Yea.But we learn from mistakes and this wont happen at a organized event in the States again.
@TheoneGodfather a burnout is obviously still very fast this isnt just a regular car and he was most likely doing the burnout to "race" down the track right after and really this is a mistake that should have never happened come on what were the organizers thinking when they decided to let people stand practically on the track
thats exactly what i said in the first comment retard all the more reason why the organizers and driver should die for allowing a pro mod on a regular street fucking idiot
and really "fuck dumb ass"? "fuck breath"? what are you like 12? just shut the fuck up bitch
this is why we have genecide. lets get rid of all the idiots like the people who set this up and exterminate them like the vermin that they are. and also wish that my x was standing in front of that thing instead of those 6 that died. oh well she might have AIDS and will die soon then the world will be better!!!!!!!
no guardrails, non-prepared surface (street), and people lined up all over the place. not a matter of 'if', but WHEN something bad happens. not blasting anyone in particular, but Critchley really should have known better..to the person who commented that "150 other cars already did burnouts" they may not have gone that fast, but you ever seen a clutch explosion or other mechanical failure that shot parts all over the place ?
Yeah... it's bad enough when they get out of the groove on the track, but a full on drag burn out on normal streets that happen to always be spotted with oil? Not the best choice of action.
I was there and saw this with my own two eyes. There were well over 150 cars that had already burned their tires - This was the last car to go. In my opinion (mine not yours) the driver wanted to make the burn out really something for the huge crowd and took it too far. The cars prior to him only spun their tires to create smoke, in no way was this supposed to be a "race." He just lost control, by going too fast!! The end! God be with the families who lost loved ones on this day.
EdVidz...ya ramblin dude....not "copletely wrong" but ramblin, "police dont control that decision, the county/state would, true on the "track" comment, people are always on the sidelines hayley, its not "thier fault" ..like Ed said about "to the track"...this City Street is not conditioned for racing..especially when racing something that can "break loose" at any part of the track. last but not least, ED? how the hell does the state ya live in come in to play?
Police should never, ever allowed this situation in Tennessee. There is dumb behavior everywhere.
One northern drag racer, the son of a very famous drag racer, ran his car into an embankment at the end of the quarter mile. Why? The drag chute was attached to the rear engine setup which exploded. Chute insufficiently deployed. Bam.
To hear some comments here, you'd think as long as you don't live in Tennessee you're not subject to acts of stupidity. Oh, let's include Washington D.C.!
@brealistic1970 i agree as far as the organisers are to blame. the driver is not to blame. he is being paid to do a demonstration, how is he to know that something could go so wrong? the organisers should have had proper barriers in place or not have let it go ahead, i hate to say it but thats just plain american stupidity, surely there would be laws against that? i know in australia if there are no barriers then there is no race whether the car wants to drive down the track at 10km/h or 500km/h
why dont you go fuck yourself while i fuck your mother bitch. i was born and raised in Tennessee and i think way differnt than you do. got something to say bout it, say it to my face. thank ya. =-) bye.
Listen gaydore123fuckmeintheass, if this were to take place in Ohio, we'd have it on an ACTUAL track not on a halfway decent street in the middle of a fucking shithole. At the very least set up barriers but you know that requires some thinking, which clearly is something you Tennessee people need to work on hence this video.
So yeah you're right you do think differently, with your heads shoved up each others asses. And classic comeback with the 'say it to my face' bullshit you hardass.
I feel terrible still about this incident. Should neva happend. Stupid organisers. Hearts go out to the families and to Troy. KR3Wisdabomb, you are a wanker mate!!! Shove it up your ass fukwit. You think Troys not suffering. The dude is messed up as anyone would be.
Safety Precautions would have saved this event! Put Huge staks of concrete guards through the whole sides of the track... Probably one of the dumbest things i've ever seen...
i'm surprised people are still even talking about this. i have mixed feelings about the incident, i am truly sorry for the families, and i do feel bad for the driver because he has to live with this for the rest of his life. he hasn't driven a race car since then, but he DID agree to participate in one of the dumbest ideas. seriously, WHO'S IDEA WAS THIS?
just like in rally racing, i always ask myself, WHAT KIND OF IDOIT STANDS BESIDE THE ROAD ???? I DONT FEEL SORRY FOR THE DEATH... OWN DONKEY FAULT....
An event that raises money for dissabled children ended up with dismembered families. Where the hell were the safty precautions???? My heart goes to the families.
I live 20 miles from this. I feel really bad about what happened, but they should not have been standing that close to the road. Crithcley does not deserve all of the blame here. It is a terrible tragedy. I am not making excuses for him. The city should share a lot of the blame for letting the event take place in the middle of the highway, not on a racetrack where it belonged.
That was an exhibition burnout, not a drag race to my knowledge it was at a parade, the guy shouldnt have done a burnout that big or that fast, its a freakin street with no guardrails!!!! and NO TRACTION...but according to the media they were watching a drag car race....not a race, just stupid...Reuters...get it right
Here's an often overlooked fact: Cars moving at high rates of speed occasionally go out of control and slam into shit despite the driver's best efforts. By either operating the machine or by spectating you acknowledge an unspoken understanding that you may be hit by fast moving shit. It blows my mind how people are shocked with this kinda stuff happens. People who bring their kids into that environment are the ones to blame if they get hurt, everyone else should know the score.
who drag races on the road with such powerful cars with barriers on the side of the road...and people that stand on the side of the road knowing what could happen are even dumber
it dont matter if it is a "charity race". its still a street race and thats how people die. race on the strip and not the street. no hay bail barriers.
@chevykid94 its just all dumb fucks that comment on here and talk shit about shit they dont know..,i have a very close friend that was righ there when it happend, it was a fuckin burn out, no drag racing
it wasnt a street race though...it was a parade, with one DA who couldnt get out of the throttle, he shouldnt have done a burnout with that kind of crowd either...not with a pro mod
Who ever thought that a 1 1/2 foot tall guardrail was sufficient to protect people from a 200 mph drag car was just out of their mind.
Whoever put this event together made a huge mistake by not taking the time to develop proper barriers between the track and the spectators. An oversight with the highest of costs. A tragedy for all.
why are people so fucking stupid? what the fuck is up with the guy standing in the middle of the fuckin road? he should thank his stupid little stars that he didn't get hit by the dragster. hell i guess trying to get hit by vehicles is the "hip" thing to do now!
20 years of experience, but even then accidents can happen. Viewing motorsport that closely is always dangerous, thank goodness he won't be jailed for a driving mistake.
Having to live with the mistake is punishment enough.
My question is this why try him? The county had to give the promoters a permit to do this? Their Public works Dept. should have put up concrete barriers just like when road work is being done. I think that the judge is out of line. I think that whoever gave them the permit and the event organiser are to blame. I would give the driver some responsibilty but not a prison sentence. The event planners and the county should be sued not the driver.
saw this and thought what the heck i'll need a miracle for my crush to kiss me so plz mark as spam
96 percent of people marry their High school mates. Because u opened this u will get kised on Friday by the person you Like and tomorrow will be the best day of ur life. Plz Dont break this chain. You ve got 10 minutes to send this. It isn't fake apparently. Copy and paste this to 14 people in 10 minutes
i think at the end of the day the majority of blame should fall on the event organisers for neglecting to provide protection for the spectators. Im just glad Troy isnt going to jail. I think its easy for people to point the finger at him because he was the driver but i believe that the event organisers should have some kind of duty of care to the spectators, when holding an event like this in the public domain.
I dont think Troy Critchely is at fault here. He shouldnt be sued for 100m when it wasnt even his negligence that resulted in the Accident. He shouldnt be criminally charged either. Sometimes tragedies just happen and people just blame the nearest person.
"six counts of homicide with a vehicle due to recklessness and 22 counts of reckless aggravated assault"...come on is that a joke. Why is this not an accident, its not like he purposely drove into the crowd. Now the families want over $100m dollars. I thought they said that their relatives were priceless?...
wooo hooo troy isnt going to jail for others stupidity!!! anyone who wants to stand so close to a high horsepowered car with no protection desevrse what they got
This is a tragedy, why is everybody calling them "stupid Americans." It had nothing to do with geography, accidents happen everywhere, would you like me to to europe, wait for someone to get hit by a rally car and say "Oh your just a stupid german," Is that really what you want?
I hope the organisers feel guilty, because it was their negligence for not protecting the public with barriers and other appropriate safety PREcautions. Whether a stock car or a drag car is on the road doing 10 or 100 kph/miles the spectators have the right to be adequately protected from any accidents or mishaps. I think Blaming the driver is pathetic, he was driving for charity not for Al Qaeda. Doesn't America have 'Worksafe?'
He probably should have checked to make sure all was clear. Then again, the organisers should have also ensured there was a barrier.
To claim it is "his fault, no one else's" is just being an ignorant bastard- it may have been his fault, but it could have equally been on the hands of the event managers.
This was not a "race." It was an exhibition burn out. The driver should have done what he was told, which was to keep it under 15 MPH. He screwed up by choice.
Robert Gift is a fucking idiot. Rally spectators get perilously close to the cars and at their own risk. However, at an event like this, there should ALWAYS be barriers. The simple fact is that some stupid hick Americans were lining the streets with NO BARRIERS and are looking to blame. I don't even like Drag racing - I'm an F1 fan. But I'd be a fuckin idiot to stand next to the track without some kind of barrier preventing this sort of FREAK ACCIDENT. Trying Troy for this is stupidity!!!!
Not all Americans are hicks. Not all Americans blame Troy. Many agree that spectators sould have stayed back-as they were told to.Even my family feels this way when my kid lost her best friend & 2 other friends were hurt.My neighbor & her son were hurt & the son's girlfriend & her sister were killed.A lot of us feel this was an accident & a lot of people lost sight of what's important & saw dollar signs!
Good point, I am sorry for your loss. I just got angry that much of the US media I was reading had labelled him almost solely responsible. I did not mean to imply that all US citizens were, 'Hicks'. Only that lining up so closely without protection to these sort of machines seemed incredibly stupid to me at the time.
It was a stupid decision not doubt but he wasn't the only one to blame.Matter of fact, he wasn't to blame at all.The people that filed lawsuits will probably never see a cent.I've seen several of the suits and it's outrageous!Especially when the race team offered to pay some of the expenses for funerals and hospital bills. They should have taken that offer. Are you from Australia?
yeah its so stupid. on 60 minutes it had something about this and someone was sewing (did i spell it right? im only 13 lol) the guy. i can't see how it is his fault. he wasnt doing it for any money and it was the people who organised it's fault. with a car that has that much horsepower its just common sense to put a good barrier up
Even if the criminal Critchley WAS invited to show off and speed down the street, he should have refused until the spectators, which he saw were there, were moved a safer distance away.
The socalled idiot was beeing told by organisers to do a burnout... FOR CHARITY... Typical AMERICAN to make comments like this. Americans should just stick to them self, and not cross the atlantic or pacific. And "foreigners" should know better than doing anything but standing still looking into the ground. Othervise they might be charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism...
Sorry for speaking my mind. Guess freedom of speach is reserved for americans... Please forgive me master and ruler of the universe... Just keep america over there, and we will keep the rest of the world going without problems.
My kids 15yr old best friend died 2 others badly hurt.My neighbor & her son were hurt-son's g/f & sis died.MANY AMERICANS agree that this was an accident. Its stupid filing such outrageous lawsuits.MANY Americans think Troy was treated unfairly! Not all were money hungry filing suits.I cant say who but will say Im proud they didnt put a price tag on their dead family member! Please do not group all Americans as being the same. That would be like saying all Australians are the same-and they are not!
You do NOT want to be caught in front of a redneck judge in America southern states. Good luck Troy. I signed the petition supporting him - anyone with a brain should so the same.
yeah, why didn't the city put up those concrete barriers? the driver is not to blame...it's an accident, and unfortunately accidents happen. but if i were a spectator i would not be in a place where there's no protection...use your head!
No he was not hired! You have to be paid for it to be considered hired. He did not get money for it. I dont feel like he should get prison time either, but HE knew it was a public street and what the conditions were. He did not have to do what he done. He is a Professional at this stuff, he should have known it was unsafe to take a car like that out there. And especially to stay in it as long as he did.
Ok, It wasn't the drivers fault, The TOWN HIRED him to do this, the spectators knew he was going to do a burnout...NOT A DRAG RACE. If it's anyone's fault its the town's and the spectator's for not havin the since to get behind at least the aluminum guard rails. The city wouldnt spend 10's of 1000's of $ for guardrails that would be used for ONE day. You gotta feel bad for the people but also for the driver...Imagine his emotional pain. PEOPLE, KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT BEFORE YOU POST IT!!
Exactly. Troy doesnt deserve all the charges that are pending on him, which equate to many many years in jail. The town needed a scapegoat and they found it in Troy. He said in an interview lately on 60 Minutes Australia that all this blame cannot be laid on one mans shoulders, but thats exactly what they've done. I feel sorry for the families, but even more so for him with the harsh way that this ACCIDENT has been dealt with
These youtubers are so fucking ignorant they say feel bad for the people, put the driver in jail, When the people KNEW about the upcoming burnouts, I say feel bad for Troy not the people, I agree that the kids that were killed should be felt sorry for but not the fucking adults for being so ignorant. That sounds harsh but i don't believe it is.
60mins used to be a creditable show but sadly its gone the american way and that of course is SENSATIONALISM! it sells. The lawyer at the end summed it up.. the city organized it, invited the police for crowd control, the fire crews for accidents and invited Troy and gave him permission to perform a burnout.. REALISM!!.. Troy come home now, theyre so stupid its dangerous
the sooner troy gets back here the better, he wont go to jail for this accident but if he does im gonna bitchslap a few loud mouth americans for xmas.. so where the hell are yous? come see the sun n surf. RIP
I agree that the driver shouldn't be held responsible, but the blame had to go to someone and the driver had the 'final call'. And in regards to people saying 'families being money hungry', not offence but imagine if it was your brother/sister, mum or dad that was killed or paralysed for life due to someone's (professional racer) accidental 'final call'.
It's an accident, a very sad one. The man didn't set out to mow 28 people down that sorry day so there is no way he can or should be held accountable.
Especially some of the families who are Christians. They should know and understand FORGIVENESS more than anybody. Because Mr.Critchley is no doubt going through a lot himself and will for the rest of his life. And for Christians to step and show him the love and forgiveness that God has shown them would mean a lot more than pointing fingers at him and demanding money. For an ACCIDENT!
And also the organisers, city,pd,fd,etc. should have had more safety precautions, but the driver had the final say so. He did not have to take his car out there, nor did he have to stay in it as long as he did. It was all in his hands. But do not take me the wrong way I know he did not purposfully put anyone in danger. And I also do not think he should spend time in prison over it. And yes i feel like many of the families are being very money hungry.
Ok first of all I would like to say that i think it is very disrespectful for people to post some of the comments that they have. I was there when it happened and knew one that was killed and many that was injured. And no the people on the side of the road did not know that a car like this was going to be out there, this event has been going on for many years and it has always been short burnouts. They had no idea that a car was going to come screaming by them at close to 100mph.
cars lose control for all reason including road conditions! I want to know why weren't there any saftey barriers in place to protect the spectators! In Australia we have to have saftey barriers in place before a demostration like this takes place!
Technically in Australia he wouldnt be Criminally liable. As Troy's Lawyer said on 60 mins Tradgedies always happen, people are just looking for someone to blame for them but sometimes they just happen. It certainly wasnt his fault, more likely the local council for not even barricading the goddam event. I hope his defence wins but if not he will get 90 years.
Shame on you americans for being so money hungry you want to sue him for an accident, i agree with all these other comments that say . if your dumb enough to stand that close then it is YOUR OWN fault & the fault of the police ect for not putting barricades up
poor bugger - even if he did feel unsure about dragging he probably felt compelled. However...1. if you're inclined to watch this idiotic stuff 2. you stand that close to the road... hey, shit happens ( respect to the dead and families) Then, how dumb can you be blaming him?! Mind you, this is the place where not to long ago they burnt witches, lynched blacks, and worst of all voted for George Bush Jr. Listening to his critics, you realise there's not much depth or wisdom there!!
dont forget the OJ Simpson debacle, the pregnant woman they all believe is man and basket ball!!! theres only 1 thing worse that basket ball and thats a movie about basket ball
no offence to americans but you guys are stupid, you want to blame the DRIVER, not the organizers and police on duty for the crash! there was always going to be a crash with no barricade, there was always going to be a death or more without a barricade!!i cant belive they are blaming the driver!
I remember this happening I saw it on the news, the crash killed 6 people and the drag car driver Troy Warren Critchley got fined $30,000. Also he got 18 months probation.

If you decide to stand in the path of a speeding car, you increase your chances of dying, dramatically.
The idiots who were hit and killed knew this very well, but they decided to stand there anyway.
I feel sorry for their innocent families, but ...
the world is better off without idiots.
Two words...

exactly spikex68.....i mean they had mustangs camaros ford rangers ford pintos all doin burn outs like they do every year..it is a charity event they have every year called CARS FOR KIDS..and they always end it with a BURNOUT SHOW, not a drag race...i love it to when people try to talk about shit they dont have a clue about whats goin on and why it happend...
jlambert38834 1 year ago
Thanks jlambert38834 for shedding some light to these morons that wouldn't know a "race" if it ran them over. Love how the media likes to call it a drag race too. Here's a shocker folks: You can find this going on in just about every town across the nation in the summer. Shit happens, get over it or hide in the safety of your home. All those people lined up on the side of the road thought it was great until the crash happened.

jsk8drummer 2 years ago
@jsk8drummer yep , this never should have gone ahead and all those people standing on both sides of the road all the way down the road should never have been standing there in the first place , heck in proper drag strips there is concrete barriers for the entire length of track , and absolutley nobody is allowed to enter on the track for safety reasons , the driver should have refused to do the event cos of the people on the road & the organisers should get jail for life for allowing it
MrCohibaboy 2 years ago
@jsk8drummer He wasnt "Racing".He was doing a burnout. Were there a lot of things wrong here in hind sight? Yea.But we learn from mistakes and this wont happen at a organized event in the States again.
TheoneGodfather 2 years ago
@TheoneGodfather a burnout is obviously still very fast this isnt just a regular car and he was most likely doing the burnout to "race" down the track right after and really this is a mistake that should have never happened come on what were the organizers thinking when they decided to let people stand practically on the track

Oh, let's include Washington D.C.!

brealistic1970 1 year ago
@brealistic1970 i agree as far as the organisers are to blame. the driver is not to blame. he is being paid to do a demonstration, how is he to know that something could go so wrong? the organisers should have had proper barriers in place or not have let it go ahead, i hate to say it but thats just plain american stupidity, surely there would be laws against that? i know in australia if there are no barriers then there is no race whether the car wants to drive down the track at 10km/h or 500km/h

Not the driver or the spectators fault here.
A tragedy for all.
hilltop530 3 years ago 2
Exactly terrible oversight. Nor were road conditions the problem. It was lack of proper safety barriers for the spectators. Sad.

Having to live with the mistake is punishment enough.
CM1032 3 years ago
My question is this why try him? The county had to give the promoters a permit to do this? Their Public works Dept. should have put up concrete barriers just like when road work is being done. I think that the judge is out of line. I think that whoever gave them the permit and the event organiser are to blame. I would give the driver some responsibilty but not a prison sentence. The event planners and the county should be sued not the driver.

i think at the end of the day the majority of blame should fall on the event organisers for neglecting to provide protection for the spectators. Im just glad Troy isnt going to jail. I think its easy for people to point the finger at him because he was the driver but i believe that the event organisers should have some kind of duty of care to the spectators, when holding an event like this in the public domain.
VLwepn 3 years ago 3
I dont think Troy Critchely is at fault here. He shouldnt be sued for 100m when it wasnt even his negligence that resulted in the Accident. He shouldnt be criminally charged either. Sometimes tragedies just happen and people just blame the nearest person.

This is a tragedy, why is everybody calling them "stupid Americans." It had nothing to do with geography, accidents happen everywhere, would you like me to to europe, wait for someone to get hit by a rally car and say "Oh your just a stupid german," Is that really what you want?
diecastmaniac1994 3 years ago
I hope the organisers feel guilty, because it was their negligence for not protecting the public with barriers and other appropriate safety PREcautions. Whether a stock car or a drag car is on the road doing 10 or 100 kph/miles the spectators have the right to be adequately protected from any accidents or mishaps. I think Blaming the driver is pathetic, he was driving for charity not for Al Qaeda. Doesn't America have 'Worksafe?'

He probably should have checked to make sure all was clear. Then again, the organisers should have also ensured there was a barrier.

mattodato 3 years ago
Robert Gift is a fucking idiot. Rally spectators get perilously close to the cars and at their own risk. However, at an event like this, there should ALWAYS be barriers. The simple fact is that some stupid hick Americans were lining the streets with NO BARRIERS and are looking to blame. I don't even like Drag racing - I'm an F1 fan. But I'd be a fuckin idiot to stand next to the track without some kind of barrier preventing this sort of FREAK ACCIDENT. Trying Troy for this is stupidity!!!!
bighimey 3 years ago
Big, would you not have REFUSED to do this stunt since people were right up to the curb?
I would have refused until everyone was cleared a safe distance. (Which probably would not have happened.)
They were not stupid. No one expected him to do that.
He saw where they were, yet showed-off anyway, at their peril.
Not a "freak accident" when such an outcome was perfectly predictable.
He deserves prison time for such total disregard for others' lives and safety.
robertgift 3 years ago
Not all Americans are hicks. Not all Americans blame Troy. Many agree that spectators sould have stayed back-as they were told to.Even my family feels this way when my kid lost her best friend & 2 other friends were hurt.My neighbor & her son were hurt & the son's girlfriend & her sister were killed.A lot of us feel this was an accident & a lot of people lost sight of what's important & saw dollar signs!
wenteacher1 3 years ago
Good point, I am sorry for your loss. I just got angry that much of the US media I was reading had labelled him almost solely responsible. I did not mean to imply that all US citizens were, 'Hicks'. Only that lining up so closely without protection to these sort of machines seemed incredibly stupid to me at the time.
bighimey 3 years ago
It was a stupid decision not doubt but he wasn't the only one to blame.Matter of fact, he wasn't to blame at all.The people that filed lawsuits will probably never see a cent.I've seen several of the suits and it's outrageous!Especially when the race team offered to pay some of the expenses for funerals and hospital bills. They should have taken that offer. Are you from Australia?

He is a Professional at this stuff, he should have known it was unsafe to take a car like that out there. And especially to stay in it as long as he did.
drof86 3 years ago
Jake111992 3 years ago

RB25DET2498cc 3 years ago
It's an accident, a very sad one. The man didn't set out to mow 28 people down that sorry day so there is no way he can or should be held accountable.
mattymagoo22 3 years ago
Especially some of the families who are Christians. They should know and understand FORGIVENESS more than anybody. Because Mr.Critchley is no doubt going through a lot himself and will for the rest of his life. And for Christians to step and show him the love and forgiveness that God has shown them would mean a lot more than pointing fingers at him and demanding money. For an ACCIDENT!
drof86 3 years ago
And also the organisers, city,pd,fd,etc. should have had more safety precautions, but the driver had the final say so. He did not have to take his car out there, nor did he have to stay in it as long as he did. It was all in his hands. But do not take me the wrong way I know he did not purposfully put anyone in danger. And I also do not think he should spend time in prison over it. And yes i feel like many of the families are being very money hungry.
drof86 3 years ago 4
Ok first of all I would like to say that i think it is very disrespectful for people to post some of the comments that they have. I was there when it happened and knew one that was killed and many that was injured. And no the people on the side of the road did not know that a car like this was going to be out there, this event has been going on for many years and it has always been short burnouts. They had no idea that a car was going to come screaming by them at close to 100mph.

I agree. He was paid to be there. They do it every year. That year was just a bad year.

That car has a lot more than 1000hp. Exhibition burnout on regular pavement= idiot. He is in jail now for this event....

No fucking way he should be taking the blame for this..!!!

Shame on you americans for being so money hungry you want to sue him for an accident, i agree with all these other comments that say . if your dumb enough to stand that close then it is YOUR OWN fault & the fault of the police ect for not putting barricades up
poor fello

poor bugger - even if he did feel unsure about dragging he probably felt compelled. Listening to his critics, you realise there's not much depth or wisdom there!!

no offence to americans but you guys are stupid, you want to blame the DRIVER, not the organizers and police on duty for the crash! there was always going to be a crash with no barricade, there was always going to be a death or more without a barricade!!i cant belive they are blaming the driver!
