Based on the message in this video I'm hoping this documentary flopped... Kookie moose is right, hiking the AT should be about challenging and enjoying yourself in the great outdoors, not passing someone to prove your better than they are. Please keep your freudian complex off the AT...
A little competive nature is a good thing but being yourself and enjoying nature as you go is a much more important focus. Never been on the AT but have done most of the other big hikes. It's so important to be yourself. Don't try impressing anyone. Do what you went there to do.

I never treated anyone different on trail, no matter creed or sex, and I honestly never saw anyone treated different on trail due to creed or sex, or age, or anything. Why this has to be brought to the forefront of this vlog is, in my opinion, the perception of someone(s) uncomfortable, and unaware. Passing someone on trail should not define you. I'm disappointed in the message here.
@kookiemoose I'm going to have to agree with you, Kookie. Last time I checked, backpacking was not a competition sport. Speed and stamina on the trail have little to do with one's sex. I'm sure there are chauvinists on any trail, just like in any town, school, or anywhere else people gather. I think these ladies would do better not to worry about getting respect from men, but rather getting respect from themselves by performing at their personal best - whatever that may mean.

Sounds like a case of the pot calling the kettle black due to something psychosomatic.
