  • nice...

  • interesting techinque when i throw that large i don't stand up while centering and your bowl got extremely off center stop touching it when you don't need to. your pull looked a little uneven could just be me and if you compress your rim after each pull you'll get the rim back on center if your rim ever becomes wobblely also refineing the outside with a rib would help with the wobble of the whole pot

  • WOOooo for Nirvana in the background!

  • this girl is jacked! lol guess you gotta be tough to be a potter ;)

  • Nice throwing arms! :D

  • Nice! Throwin' a bowl to Nirvana in the background... doesn't get better.

  • im on a plain by nirvana playing in the back... i like. your throwing is good also ha

  • Hello , I really liked that huge bowl. I am trying to make larger bowls myself now so u have inspired me, please do more demos, thks,Harry

  • Thanks for the great video and for describing what and why your doing things as you do it. I'll second LChmelyk's question and ask for suggestions for trimming.

  • jeeze look at those guns :P

  • Thanks for the video, I have recently started taking on larger pieces of clay so this was helpful! How do you trim the bottom of this bowl when the rim is larger than your wheel head?

  • yolked.

  • Awesome I miss throwing :-/ I'll get back to it soon enough. Although I could never make a bowl so big but it's amazing.

  • Hi Tess, great work!

  • thanks for the tutorial.... wow potters arms

I made one using 12 pounds , first time,,, difficult.. but your technique, i ll try

  • fantastic.. beautiful. whenever i try to throw large bowl it folds down on me and becomes a plate. please help :(

  • why do you use a bat instead of the wheel

  • yeah i see those muscles I thought you didn't really had to use any muscles lol no wonder its not working for me XD

  • @acidfriend47 Throwing doesn't require much muscle power, it requires acute and purposeful application of pressure. Muscle helps but technique makes up for muscle any day. If you keep practicing good technique, the muscles will come in time but more importantly your skill will build.

  • holy impressive bowl! and yes....incredible arm strength to center that piece of clay. very cool.

  • holy arm strength!

  • Awesome tutorial! Thank you. It's amazing to see someone throw a large bowl like that as easy as you made it seem.

btw on the last part about touching up with the sponge, you can use a smooth rib tool to go make it nice and clean with no sponge marks. That's what I always do.

  • pretty sure that this is the largest piece ive ever seen a woman throw. nicely done. throwing this big doesnt come easy r without practice for anyone. really cool to see a woman throw so large. proves to everyone it's not about muscle, it's about technique

  • @nathangoose true that, but I wouldn't imply she hasn't got muscle

  • Oz, thank you for the complement. Lifting the pieces off the wheel head from time to time can be tricky! Sometimes bats will stick, if they do, I drill the holes a bit bigger, this way they won't stick (but not too large, so they have too much play).

DirtKickerStudio! What an awesome name! Glad you could use the video.

  • I usually fold up about half of my big bowls. This video gave me some good tips. Thanks.

  • Didn't see how you lift it! :)

I did a 2 year course about 4 years back.

I need to get back into pottery as I love the feeling of clay.

Wish I could make a living from this.

Spend a lot of time at Japanese pottery sites on the web and looking at their glazes. Too much awesome work to take in.

Thanks for putting up your vid.

    from Oz.

  • You're welcome! And I'm very thankful that there is a place like this that I can share what I know with others! I will be posting more video's here soon!

  • Another good demo. I am a new potter and have a lot to learn. This has been a great place to find people like you that are willing to share what they know. I will keep looking for more of your instruction. Thanks for your generosity.
