The Syracuse Regional Police Academy is one of the most difficult and demanding academies in the country. The reason NYS and the SPD do not accept many transfers from other officers is because other agencies training is not as demanding so when these officers get to the SPD they are not prepared enough. As a result these officers must go though the Syracuse Regional Police Academy like any other fresh recruit which is not necessarily a bad thing. They they get more training and have experience.
If NYS wants to recruit qualified individuals, start allowing out of state officers to lateral there. Stop trying to recruit people who haven't even thought about working in law enforcement.
