i think this video is very informative, it actually shows you the whole drawing start to finish, instead of a couple of little samples of technique, i would say this is actually geared MORE toward advance and intermediate, someone who has the basic "hold" and construction down. it shows you the fine tuning and value building, you just got a 4 hour lesson in two minutes, no extra charge!
Hi there nice drawing but for us first beginer we need to how to start a pencil portriat drawing and fine one that look real.i don't no if you real lie that the fast move video isn't cut it.person like matthew39 arch worke like his is what you shold be showing it give the vire a look into your world.
Not all lessons can be at the beginner level.. Don't criticize instruction just because it's over your head. Go look for beginner lessons if that's what you need.
Even at the most advanced level, this video is not instructional; it's a SPEED VIDEO. What are intermediate or advanced students suppose to learn from this?
Good lord people i was posting the video so that you might pick up on or see how i approach drawing the portrait. Of course you cant learn much from it...its under two minutes long. Sorry for not teaching a free class for you. For those of you who found it interesting to see my process or technique, I hope you enjoyed it...Thanks for watching!
@actualityst I doubt it was meant for learning anything, it's youtube... your chances of video success come in the form of childish gimmicks and cock-a-doodle-doos. This video if to do anything important is to say there's more and better things out there than horrible photo pencil portraits and digital speed portrait paintings. If you wanna really learn, than I suggest you start learning. You can gain a vast knowledge from books and practice, why follow someone elses path.
yes i use a quick block-in and then start finding my shadow shapes. once the large geometric shapes divide the light and shadow i fill them in lightly with tone. then from there i just work from the simplest to the more complex. Glad you liked it..
I learned something from this video. From the moment it began I started realizing how to make my drawings come to life in a way they havent. But indeed ints not an "instructional" video like it is stated in the description box.
PS- hey my "Lost in Translation" CD is copy protected can't even play it on my computer. Kevin Shields and MBV make awesome music- some of the clips on my channel of the dance troupe La La La Human Steps use Kevin Sheilds music unique for that performance.
Do another video for us drawing junkies, pleeeeze.
WOW, what a beautiful drawing. Not only that but this clip is instructional if you know what to look for. Finally someone who can actually draw- 2 hours is still pretty fast for the results you get- there doesn't appear to be any gimmiks; this is what real genuine drawing from skill, training and practice looks like folks.
WOW! how long have u been drawing for? INCREDIBLE! you should be one of those people in tourist places drawing people for $100 each because your drawing is so realistic. 5 STARS!
I really love to watch this little piece of film! The music and watching you draw really fits together well. Any chance of knowing who is playing that piece of music. Seems like the ideal music to put on while I'm painting. Looking forward to seeing something new from you hopefully in the near future. Take care!
Glad you liked the film! I have had that song in my head for years wanting to put it to some time lapsed video, i think it goes well too. THe song is called, "Are you awake?", by Kevin Shields. It was on the Lost in Translation Soundtrack. I have a few more songs lined up too for some video that should be on here when i get a chance...THanks for the comments!
No problem...im glad you were able to pic up on some things and use them, good luck, you know i never realized that i held my pencil that way until i watched this...? weird.
Very nice work; almost identical to my process. I also like to incorporate some value into the block in. Is this on a medium tooth drawing paper?

Hey cool film.
Do you use block-in? Or do you just mix and match 2d shapes at first and construct the 2d lay-in over that?

What did you use as a reference; a photograph hard copy or a picture on a video monitor or a live model ?
