Dear Dr. Callahan: I am a 47 year old life-long orphan who absolutely loves both history and ETYmology (being a rather posh lady who is not a tawdry gossip nor a snob, I can't say I care for ENTYmology!) and I absolutely LOVE these videos, and the gospel-no trivial matter! I don't suppose you'd be interested in "adopting" one slightly used but eminently loyal and loving daughter would you? I assure you I am no dunce, but was once a gymnast. Hands down, you are the best! Blessings to you!
Dear Sir, having returned ti this site after a long period of time, I recognized something that puzzled me. Johannes Duns Scotus (or John as You call him) should have taught Charlemagne to read and write? Consider their respective date of birth and death: Charlemagne: dead 814 A.D.; Scotus: appr. 1265-1308.If I remember Vita Caroli M. right, Carolus remained an illiterate. Einhard thus tells us that the emperor tried to learn reading but never really succeeded. Pease view the prosecution above.
I am Dr Callahans son and I posted these videos. I contacted my father about this discrepancy and he agrees with your observation. It seems that my father inadvertently crossed John Duns Scotus with that of an Alcuin of Yorkor (or Ealhwine, nicknamed Albinus or Flaccus (c. 735 804)) who was a scholar, poet and teacher from York, Northumbria. It was Alcuin who taught Charlemagne.
I hope this clarifies the discrepancy and thank you for your observation.
Thank you very much for Your reply. As adumbrated in my comment there should have been a second part in which I suggested Alkuin as the person meant by Dr. Callahan. Also You would have found an expression of my sincere admiration and appreciation of Your fathers scholarship.
I am Dr Callahan's son - and I posted these videos.
Thank you for your comment. My father does teach - surgery - at a local unversity. I am trying to convince my father to do more of these videos. Feel free to subscribe - so you can be notified when any new videos are posted. ....Thanks again.
