Yeah, I know. I was retyping what someone said to be politically correct. Yes, you are right, he did work on Bad and the Dangerous or History concerts as well. Michael even went on to hire him for his MJJ productions. Jeffrey Daniels is BAD!
It's hard to say who first did the moonwalk. But there were many many types of slides in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Then Jefferey Daniel did his version in the 80's. Then Michael Jackson revolutionised it, stood higher on his toes, made it look incredibly seemless and he named it the moonwalk. Because it was previously called the back slide. @xxxxmslovelyxxxx Michael Jackson never claimed to create the "Moonwalk", it's been around since the 20's. The Electric Boogaloos (search on YouTube) performed the style 'Bodypopping' and that included the backslide and were popular un the LA Dance Scene to the point they were extended an invitation to appear on Soul Train, watch that. Jeff was taught by THEM and first did the move on Soul Train later with Cooley Jaxson (Youtube him) and Casper Geron Candidate who all went on to work with MJ.

@nuthinbutclassics Um, why are you trying to explain something to me I could care less about? Save it for an MJ fan who cares, because I honestly don't!
Michael then revolutionized it by standing higher on his toes and naming the move The Moonwalk. He then performed it on Motown 25 and completely popularized it!
Many people still believe MJ invented the "Moon walk" - or whatever the hell anyone wants to call it... The point is, he might not have intentionally wanted credit for creating this dance move - but we have proof here that it was developed by JD - and done perfectly well too - so he should get ALL of the credit for it.
@theone225 Not at all, MJ learned popping and locking from groups such as the Electric Boogaloo and The Lockers respectively. The moonwalk is a type of float move within popping and the roots of this dance style and it became popularized by MJ. The term has been around before MJ.
@OrlyDudeGuy Also, what people think of as the "moonwalk" is not the moonwalk at all, it's a backslide. A moonwalk is a different glide move. Watch clips and tutorials from a master popper named Mr. Wiggles.
@theone225 The truth is JD taught Mj alot of his moves because MJ asked him and the sidewalk Elvis did those first along with the standing on toes! MJ is just a talented showman and well singer/songwriter!
@Zecalran Okay, I have never seen Elvis do the sideslide. And the Greatest Artist Of All Time is more than just an amazing, talented showman, he is one of the most famous people ever. I understand that JD showed Michael some moves, all I am saying is that Michael changed them moves and made them look very spectacular and he created so many new ones of his own. He also created 'the moonwalk' because JD named it the backslide and MJ changed the move and perfected it, then named it the MOONWALK
I love the massive idiots on youtube who talk as if Michael got all his dancing from Jeffrey, but hey idiots, Jeffrey didn't invent any of these moves either. Jeffrey never claimed to invent these dances and always give credits the electric boogaloos who also got their moves from others as well. Also Michael was impressed by a bunch of guys and worked with them all but people only focus on Jeffrey. Also MJ was a noted dancer before he even met them, check out the vids here on the tube.
@tonm08 Elvis Presley was a bigger cunt. He should have been charged for child molestation and sexual assault on a minor for having Priscilla in his mansion when she was only 14. Also, Elvis, your king, was a little boy. Without Little Richard, Elvis was a nobody. So the next time you see those clowns with their white sequined overalls and guitar, remember that they are paying homage to the real king, and his name is Little Richard! Stop taking credit for other people`s hardwork!

Why do people compare Michael to Jeffrey Daniel? Michael never admitted to inventing any of his moves, he was obv inspired by many dancers but the different is Michael put that finesse in his dancing, he danced inside the music, Jeffrey Daniel helped choregraph some of Michaels videos, they are both amazing an unique in their own way. Difference is Michael is the greatest entertainer/singer of ALL TIME.
"Why do people compare Michael to Jeffrey Daniel? Michael never admitted to inventing any of his moves, he was obv inspired by many dancers but the different is Michael put that finesse in his dancing, he danced inside the music......."
True ...and Michael WAS doing all the robot moves and super spins way back in the 70's, too.
The moves done while leaning are more impressive to me than the moonwalk. Also noticed the four corner turn. It looks like Michael did get a lot of ideas from him.
Bill Bailey was a tapper right? I can see the "backward slide" being one of the tappers moves. It seems they slid a lot to breakup the mono of the tapping. Dont know if Jeffrey saw it or not but either way Im glad because it made its way to Michael..
I know Michael has an unique dancing style....I completely understand that, but damn I can definitely tell Daniel influenced Michael's dancing style in a big way. It's like he took some of Daniels moves and packer-punched it!
Backslide *packer-punch*-----> Moonwalk
If you play Zombies you would understand that reference.....
If you play Cod you would know where I'm coming from...
The heck with what everyone says. The backslide and moonwalk has its history. Jeffrey Daniel is a good dancer and Michael Jackson was an influential pop music artist. Without the Jeff, Michael would not have been able to dance the way he could and without Michael, Jeff wouldn't have been recognized cause most people haven't heard of this dude unless you were a Shalamar fan.
@OrlyDudeGuy " Jeff wouldn't have been recognized cause most people haven't heard of this dude unless you were a Shalamar fan." In the US maybe but in the UK Shalamar were HUGE and JD did his moonwalk twice on TOTP.Everybody was talking about it, a full year before MJ did it on MTV.
@lewisner True. UK and Europe is very open to pop music whereas in the US, whites are more into rock or country, only some like pop, r&b, soul, hip hop, and the like. The minorities in the US like most of the latter music types.
@lewisner Well, it depends on the cities that their albums might have been sold. You know how certain regions like certain music, so maybe in places like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles where a number of people are into popular things, their albums were successful and had more consumers buying and led to their albums becoming successful overall, but in other places in the US, not as much, IMHO.
@OrlyDudeGuy Not too upset the US, but my general view of the States regarding music is it is a state! They happily paw all their crap (Gaga, Spears, Aguilera, Kings Of Leon, Madonna etc) over onto the UK & Europe and the UK lick it up with slathering tongues, while completely disregarding their own people, which is exactly what the US do to everything they didn't create-and I'll never get it cos the UK & Europe produced (once) many individual sounds that the US still haven't done to this day.
@TheMjblades Sorry to break your heart but blues jazz soul ryhthm and blues rock country all come from the states. classical music and the other come from europe.
@mjjcng8958 You actually don't. The US naturally created its own stuff & had the talent to do so once but I'm talking about the now! Since 1985-the arrival of the horrific Madonna incidentally, the once individualistic musical genres broke down. What is called 'r'n'b' today should be done under a blantant misrepresentations act! It's all bastardised, watered MOR pop. Soul pretty much died after Sade & real rhythm & blues went even even earlier. There are a few acts today able but not the usual!
@TheMjblades yeah we actually do the fact is this most of the best singer dont get airplay in the mainstream. that is the problem in the us. and dont you know that sade is currently out. also we have maxwell d angelo ledisi raheem devaughn maysa these people among other are not mainstream but they sure as hell have soul. and you are so right mainstream soul is watered down shit
@mjjcng8958 Yeah it's a horribly disturbing & soul-destroying thing for trash to sell always over the better stuff. The UK itself ashames me-we take all the US crap, while they never took our great stuff in the 80s & now everything's shit-including our own stuff, so it doesn't matter, then they take some of it! Jesus! It was shocking that when the 80s ended, barely a handful of decentish stuff came out-there were dozens every month in the 80s from every country-the US included. 1994-now-sod all!
@DeathBall44 everything u said is correct except for the fact that he "created" the moonwalk. I've watched dozens of interviews with this dude and he never says he created it...he says others were doing it and he caught on to it and not only that but a guy named Bill Bailey did it back in the 1950's, just type in bill bailey moonwalk...of course its in need of evolution but the actual step is the same
@DeathBall44 Have you seen The Electric Boogaloos on Soul Train in the 70's ,Cooley Jaxson, Casper Geron Candidate, Bill Bailey from the 40's? Youtube search my friend
We have to thank this man so much because he's the one who taught are Michael how to moonwalk and if Michael hadn't done that move the world would never be the same
Jeff did teach MJ. And if it wasn't for Jeff Mike might not have ever mounted to a hill of beans. The truth is mj was addicted to drugs at an early age and Jeff sat in for him on bids and even concerts, of coarse in the beginning Jeff only lipped sync'd to mj's music but eventually the big money made Jeff learn to sing for himself. The people in power needed someone to keep mj going and basically forced Jeff to sing or they would ruin him. A lot of this was backroom talked about by latoyA.
@austinmilbarge1 You're a fuckin idiot. Michael Jackson made millions and sold millions of records before the moonwalk came out. You really need to get off of your parents computer and take your ass to bed.
@bigazzpimp407 That's not true. Cab Calloway did the moonwalk (then called "The Buzz") in 1932. French mime artist Marcel Marceau started doing the moonwalk in the '40s, and Bill Bailey was recorded on film performing it in 1955. So, actually, the moonwalk predates all of these guys.
@PmanB06 Regardless of when the Moonwalk was invented, who taught it to him, or where he saw it performed, Michael Jackson would still be a multi-platinum artist. He was a very sucessful artist with and without his brothers before he did it. What austinmilbarge1 said was ignorant. Thank you for the information PmanB06. You're a gentleman and a scholar. I'd like to see the Bill Bailey footage sometime.
Reading some of the comments, some people are saying the Jeffrey TAUGHT Michael how to dance just because he was Michael's choreographer. You couldn't be more wrong. Michael came out of the womb dancing. Did you see his auction tape for Motown at the age of 5? Michael was always an awesome dancer. He was inspired by other legenday dancers, but dancing was already in his blood.
Jeffrey did teach MJ some moves and did make up dance steps for him, but he did NOT teach Michael how to dance.
@msdogooder He taught him the moonwalk. But anyone who tries to imply that MJ couldn't dance in general before that is either just completely ignorant of the first half of his career or just fucking stupid.
@SnotRockets55 I agree. Now don't get me wrong Mr. Daniel is a great dancer/choreographer but like you said "to imply that MJ couldn't dance in general before that is...completely ignorant". I NEVER heard Michael say he invented the moonwalk on his own. He always said he was inspired by others but the thing about Michael is he never copied other people’s moves verbatim. He always took the essence of the moves & made them his own. Plus he had a stage presence & charisma that couldn't be matched.
@msdogooder No he did copy some of the moves Daniel did. I saw more than a few steps in this video that I've seen in the "Smooth Criminal" one, executed exactly the same, but the thing is that MJ did give Daniel credit for this stuff. He never tried to pass it off as his own brainchild.
@msdogooder One thing JD did do was teach MJ the moonwalk. Latoya confirms that and I think MJ too. Check interview vids. JD says that they learned from each other. It is true that MJ came out the womb dancer.
@WillGotti apsolutely true, i saw daniel perform this dance in nigeria when shalamar came to perform at the university of lagos in 1981-82 , i remember that move because mid performance the electricity gave way and someone got a torch and shone it on jefferies legs.. he MOON WALKED and the whole auditorium ERUPTED, I had front row seats with my friends and we saw HISTORY IN THE MAKING pure joy to behold.. the guys were brilliant jodie was cute such a wonderful group..
credit where credit is due.......jd is and was a better dancer than jm.....trouble is too many people on here are to young to remember when jd was performing ....
@monkeysead jeff d taught micheal jackson to dance ....try watching jeff daniel on soccer am on here.....he tells the interviewer...that mj asked him to teach him to dance ...and jeff d actually appears in the videos for smooth criminal and bad...jd was the lead choreographer on both videos
@hoppterr alot of people taught michael how to dance, but he took it to the next level, i think most people would say michael is better no offense to jeffery but i prefer michael
@ELqueLEmeteDURO how old are you.....probably to young to remember jd in his hey day,....he is known thru out the world as the grandfather of modern dance ....he was yrs ahead of everyone else ....thats why mj asked him to teach him how to dance and thats why jd was choreographer on 3 of mj`s videos...evening appearing in 2 of them...so get your fact rights .....and educate yourself
@hoppterr im 24 thank you, jd was not a better dancer than mj. nore washe more talented. he was just exposed to certain dances more than michael but once michael got a hold of them he took them to a nother level. and i never heard that crap about jd being the grandfather of modern dance. he was good but not the best. he looks mad stiff anyway.
@ELqueLEmeteDURO seeing as though mj asked jd to teach him to dance and be the chief choreographer on 3 of his videos...bad... thriller and smooth criminal ...proves my point ....all 3 vidoes would be nothing without the dance moves ...created...designed and implimented by jd ....I REST MY CASE !!!!
@hoppterr jd aint do shit. in the bad video he was all the way in the back of the dancers he aint desing none of those dances. nore did he do the thriller dance either. you cant trick me bro. get off of jds nuts. he was a good dancer but y making him seem like he a god. he had a stiff popping style
~Are you sure Jefferey Daniels was the Chief choreographer for Michael on the TRILLER video?I've seen the making of THRILLER and I didn't see Jeffrey in the dance rehearsal room or on the set of THRILLER.In fact,Michael said himself that he did the music video ''Beat It'' with Michael Peters and Jackson choreographed portions of that as well.Michael Peters was the choreographer for Michael Jackson's video ''THRILLER''.Jeffrey Daniels wasn't.Get your facts straight.
@Newtamaki it was this video that mj saw and called up jd and said teach me to dance ...watch the soccer am vid on here with jd and he tells the story ....jd was the lead on thriller the same as he was on beat it ...he even appears in the beat it video
~I still don't believe that but at any rate,Jeffrey taught Michael some moves and Michael mastered them and perfected them.People make it seem like if it wasn't for Jeffrey,Michael might have not been so famous, that is bullshit.Michael became a much better dancer than Jeffrey in every sense of the word. But that's just my opinion.
The host and many other people can't get his name right. It's Jeffrey Daniel without the 's', not Jeffrey Daniels with an 's'. By the way, I wish Soul Train would have shown his whole body throughout the performance. We were unable to apprecialte some of the footwork when they go to medium shot.
I got in trouble cutting my hair like Jd, my mom had a fit and my brother got the switch for cutting his pants like MJ when "dont' stop till you get enough came out". These 2 guys are legends, I just wish JD did more Solo music and videos, well "its not too late, JD we need new music and dance move from you, not Shalamar I mean you solo! All these young guys like Usher and CB still cannot touch JD at 50+. Legendary man!
Hmm A friend of many told me this was disco which of course is wrong.LOL, I would call it street dance, cuz of the "free role". I was thinking of boogalo, robot, popping and a series of other moves/styles. Its hard to tell a spes style as I can only see a set of different moves/styles...still very fascinating. I might be wrong
this is called street dance, which is a mix of many dance moves, new and old. Ive seen many talented guys doing these moves and some new moves never seen before. What I like about michael jackson is that he made his own style. Of course he learned the moves from others but nevertheless he adapted it to his own style. Dont take me wrong I love jeffrey but I like michaels style better, because it was unique and more accurate/soft. Rip michael. Ps Im not a jackson fan but he was one of a kind.
For those of you that don't know Jeffrey Daniels taught MJ the moonwalk and the glide. Yes MJ was poplocking but his style was different in 1975-1977 and he learned the moonwalk and the glide in early 1982. MJ perfected the dance and it became his signature after the 1983 broadcast of Motown 25 when he did Billie Jean. MJ also had other influences that he credits. Fred Astaire, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, The Nicholas Brothes, Jackie Wilson, and of course James Brown.
I've been a huge mj fan for 29 years but you cannot deny Jeffrey's Influence on him. From his style of dancing to his military outfits.Don't know why so-called hard-core fans don't realize this.MJ still was a genius.People mention mj's popping and lockin' on the variety show, but those routines were supposed to be spoofs on the real dance troupe called "The Lockers."Just look up their videos on youtube. Look up their performances from 1975 and the 1979 moonwalking routine it's on here.
I can remember being at Primary school, and we were all trying to copy his moves! And fast forward 28 years later, my daughter does hip-hop and is learning those moves! Hard to be as good as Jeffrey though....
@Ketren2 look u say u like mj yet u r cursing like this. sum fan u r. plus jeffrey has said he taught michael. and there is a video of michael and jeffrey doing the smooth criminal moves. fake michael fan. he wouldn't like it with u cursing
It was called the backslide in street dance terms, in case you didn't know MJ first did the moonwalk (his perfected version) in 1983 whereas JD did the backslide (former name) in 1982. Please I suggest you reasearch your dates before making any assumptions
@Ketren2 - What are you, retarded? You're looking at one of them. Bitch, I was there. I saw it when it originally aired. You're a delusional Michael Jackson fanatic, and you're blind to reality. Get a grip. That boy diddling ninja was not god.
me too and that's true. i've been following this thread for awhile. it's ashamed that some very rabid MJ fans are suffering from such delushionary fantasies. . .anyone that has seen the footage of JD dancing on souldtrain from back in the seventies and looks @ his dancing in the 80's (which pre-dates MJ's moves by a few years) can tell that MJ was digging JD's swagger, style, and finesse. . . what's so WRONG w/that?!?
@Ketren2 - WTF are you talking about? Jeffery Daniel moonwalked on both Soul Train and Top of the Pops in 1982... One year before MJ first did it on Motown 25. Why do you little shit-for-brains kids insist upon talking about things of which you know nothing?

Backslide *packer-punch*-----> Moonwalk
If you play Zombies you would understand that reference.....
If you play Cod you would know where I'm coming from...
sorry.....
Coldmilk51312 1 year ago
The heck with what everyone says. The backslide and moonwalk has its history. Jeffrey Daniel is a good dancer and Michael Jackson was an influential pop music artist. Without the Jeff, Michael would not have been able to dance the way he could and without Michael, Jeff wouldn't have been recognized cause most people haven't heard of this dude unless you were a Shalamar fan.
OrlyDudeGuy 1 year ago
@OrlyDudeGuy " Jeff wouldn't have been recognized cause most people haven't heard of this dude unless you were a Shalamar fan." In the US maybe but in the UK Shalamar were HUGE and JD did his moonwalk twice on TOTP.Everybody was talking about it, a full year before MJ did it on MTV.
lewisner 11 months ago
@lewisner True. UK and Europe is very open to pop music whereas in the US, whites are more into rock or country, only some like pop, r&b, soul, hip hop, and the like. The minorities in the US like most of the latter music types.
OrlyDudeGuy 11 months ago
@OrlyDudeGuy I actually looked on Wikipedia and they have a discography and it shows their albums did well in the States but the singles less so.
lewisner 11 months ago
@lewisner Well, it depends on the cities that their albums might have been sold. You know how certain regions like certain music, so maybe in places like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles where a number of people are into popular things, their albums were successful and had more consumers buying and led to their albums becoming successful overall, but in other places in the US, not as much, IMHO.
OrlyDudeGuy 11 months ago
@OrlyDudeGuy I live in a city here in the US where people aren't really into mainstream pop music but rock or country.
OrlyDudeGuy 11 months ago
@OrlyDudeGuy Not too upset the US, but my general view of the States regarding music is it is a state! They happily paw all their crap (Gaga, Spears, Aguilera, Kings Of Leon, Madonna etc) over onto the UK & Europe and the UK lick it up with slathering tongues, while completely disregarding their own people, which is exactly what the US do to everything they didn't create-and I'll never get it cos the UK & Europe produced (once) many individual sounds that the US still haven't done to this day.
TheMjblades 10 months ago
@TheMjblades Indeed

@TheMjblades Sorry to break your heart but blues jazz soul ryhthm and blues rock country all come from the states. classical music and the other come from europe.
mjjcng8958 8 months ago
@mjjcng8958 You actually don't. The US naturally created its own stuff & had the talent to do so once but I'm talking about the now! Since 1985-the arrival of the horrific Madonna incidentally, the once individualistic musical genres broke down. What is called 'r'n'b' today should be done under a blantant misrepresentations act! It's all bastardised, watered MOR pop. Soul pretty much died after Sade & real rhythm & blues went even even earlier. There are a few acts today able but not the usual!
TheMjblades 8 months ago
@TheMjblades yeah we actually do the fact is this most of the best singer dont get airplay in the mainstream. that is the problem in the us. and dont you know that sade is currently out. also we have maxwell d angelo ledisi raheem devaughn maysa these people among other are not mainstream but they sure as hell have soul. and you are so right mainstream soul is watered down shit
mjjcng8958 8 months ago
@mjjcng8958 Yeah it's a horribly disturbing & soul-destroying thing for trash to sell always over the better stuff. The UK itself ashames me-we take all the US crap, while they never took our great stuff in the 80s & now everything's shit-including our own stuff, so it doesn't matter, then they take some of it! Jesus! It was shocking that when the 80s ended, barely a handful of decentish stuff came out-there were dozens every month in the 80s from every country-the US included. 1994-now-sod all!

A lot of this was backroom talked about by latoyA.
austinmilbarge1 1 year ago
@austinmilbarge1 You're a fuckin idiot. Michael Jackson made millions and sold millions of records before the moonwalk came out. You really need to get off of your parents computer and take your ass to bed.
bigazzpimp407 1 year ago
@bigazzpimp407 That's not true. Cab Calloway did the moonwalk (then called "The Buzz") in 1932. French mime artist Marcel Marceau started doing the moonwalk in the '40s, and Bill Bailey was recorded on film performing it in 1955. So, actually, the moonwalk predates all of these guys.
PmanB06 1 year ago
@PmanB06 Regardless of when the Moonwalk was invented, who taught it to him, or where he saw it performed, Michael Jackson would still be a multi-platinum artist. He was a very sucessful artist with and without his brothers before he did it. What austinmilbarge1 said was ignorant. Thank you for the information PmanB06. You're a gentleman and a scholar. I'd like to see the Bill Bailey footage sometime.

I will always love my Michael and I also love the influence that Jeffrey had on Michaels dancing. They both are AWESOME!
msdogooder 1 year ago
Reading some of the comments, some people are saying the Jeffrey TAUGHT Michael how to dance just because he was Michael's choreographer. You couldn't be more wrong. Michael came out of the womb dancing. Did you see his auction tape for Motown at the age of 5? Michael was always an awesome dancer. He was inspired by other legenday dancers, but dancing was already in his blood.
Jeffrey did teach MJ some moves and did make up dance steps for him, but he did NOT teach Michael how to dance.
msdogooder 1 year ago 10
@msdogooder He taught him the moonwalk. But anyone who tries to imply that MJ couldn't dance in general before that is either just completely ignorant of the first half of his career or just fucking stupid.
SnotRockets55 5 months ago
@SnotRockets55 I agree. Now don't get me wrong Mr. Daniel is a great dancer/choreographer but like you said "to imply that MJ couldn't dance in general before that is...completely ignorant". I NEVER heard Michael say he invented the moonwalk on his own. He always said he was inspired by others but the thing about Michael is he never copied other people’s moves verbatim. He always took the essence of the moves & made them his own. Plus he had a stage presence & charisma that couldn't be matched.
msdogooder 5 months ago
@msdogooder No he did copy some of the moves Daniel did. I saw more than a few steps in this video that I've seen in the "Smooth Criminal" one, executed exactly the same, but the thing is that MJ did give Daniel credit for this stuff. He never tried to pass it off as his own brainchild.
SnotRockets55 5 months ago

I might be wrong
amatop2000 1 year ago
this is called street dance, which is a mix of many dance moves, new and old. Ps Im not a jackson fan but he was one of a kind.
amatop2000 1 year ago
For those of you that don't know Jeffrey Daniels taught MJ the moonwalk and the glide. Yes MJ was poplocking but his style was different in 1975-1977 and he learned the moonwalk and the glide in early 1982. MJ perfected the dance and it became his signature after the 1983 broadcast of Motown 25 when he did Billie Jean. MJ also had other influences that he credits. Fred Astaire, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, The Nicholas Brothes, Jackie Wilson, and of course James Brown.
thealphamale31 1 year ago
I've been a huge mj fan for 29 years but you cannot deny Jeffrey's Influence on him. From his style of dancing to his military outfits.Don't know why so-called hard-core fans don't realize this.MJ still was a genius.People mention mj's popping and lockin' on the variety show, but those routines were supposed to be spoofs on the real dance troupe called "The Lockers."Just look up their videos on youtube. Look up their performances from 1975 and the 1979 moonwalking routine it's on here.
