By this stage, the police had already tried to kettle people at Tube stations, had set up an earlier arbitrary line between two groups of demonstrators, keeping them apart for no reason, and this line was ridiculous. Rather than proper policing designed to protect the RBS further down the road, this was provocative, pointless and downright dangerous for the cops as well as the protesters. Why didn't the cops just line up around the RBS instead and protect it and let protesters have the street?
