cost of a mainline, peak-time ticket to London is about £75. For that I would expect a seat to be available at the very least! It costs -less- to fly to Paris from Manchester and back to London than it does to catch the train from somewhere ONE HOUR AWAY! Seriously train companies need to get their shit together, this is completely retarded. Also in Australia a peak time return to a commuter town 2 hours out of Melbourne costs $10, or £4. Train companies should follow this example.
@23 seconds. This is why people often cannot board trains, no one will move down into the aisle and often ignore requests to do so. I am well past the stage where I will stand squashed into a corner and often just barge past the idiot blocking the way.
You lot dwn south have it easy, Reading Slough and london are getting cross rail and a new intercity service, (4 trains an hour from bristol, extra from Oxford and Newbury too) The new thameslink project is on track too for a service every 8 mins through london. In the north we just get your pitiful cast offs. At least things are happening for the south, (even if its not overnight)
@TheFoxy1986 you think so, 90% of shit that ever happens (upgrades new trains etc) is in london, i live along the heart of wessex line which has no intercity service, just a 2/3 car dmu thats so overpacked and late people are cmammed in just like :57 and stations are just axed from the route,
@TheFoxy1986 good example was about a month ago on a train from cardif to portsmouth, i got on at btristol, jammed into the asile like cattle only to find out that beceauxse of overcrowding and delay the train would not stop until westbury which is a pain in the ass as its after my stop
im very tempted to organise a few bus coaches from reading to london paddington as a protest... and publicise it. the rail copmanies will sit up and take note when people vote with their feet.
I just missed my London Midland 0720 train from Harrow and Wealdstone for the same reason.
Fully packed train, people somehow managing to get into the trains, pushing and jumping on each other. It was like some ridiculous thing, for which I rather decided to miss the train, then to take it.
The even worse thing is, it happens the same even if you have a First Class ticket. No one sees your ticket, you stand at the same place along with other passengers. and they just don't allow you to get on.
You know you if the train is full you can just get the next train? It's not really the train company's fault when people choose to stand or sit on the floor
South East commuters get far more government subsidy for their train services than anywhere else in the country but all they do is whinge, whinge, whinge
god, it must really be awful having to stand for a change, rather than have the luxury of sitting on your fat arses. just be careful that the huge discomfort of having to stand doesn't put you in hospital.
what the fuck does everyone expect the train services to do, they are doing their job just fine, it's not their fault people are getting stuck in bloody doors, try loosing some weight
@alexw5506 I think it's more about high prices, bad services, and trains that are few and far between in areas even when they know the extra service is needed for more commuters. After living abroad it does make me question how other countries can charge cheaper fares (even during rush hour) and still have better service.
Solution. To stop overcrowding and give everyone a seat - make seat reservations compulsory - like they do in most European countries. If you don't have a reservation you can't travel. Simples. Now.....wait for the hundreds of people to complain that they can't travel because they had to have a seat reservation.
In my opinion, people will stand rather than wait ten minutes for the next train.
Northern Rail are my favourite. Everyone who longs for nationalisation to return should travel Northern Fail because they still run the same rubbish trains that used to break down for BR in 1986. It's like a (loud, compact and smelly) museum. You've not experienced railfail until you've spent 30 minutes stuck in the middle of Yorkshire because the doors on your Northern Fail Pacer won't close. northernfail.co.uk
0:53 happens all the time, daily in Japan. Whats the problem ? Although you only really see that on the subways, guess if its a long distance overground train... : ?
Why focus just on the trains though? The tube is just as bad, if not worse! It does seem though that you need to live outside the zones to stand a chance of getting a seat on trains to London.
For many people the train is the only viable option to travel to work. Most of them would no doubt prefer an alternative, less expensive, less cramped, less dangerous form of transport and, yes, I mean dangerous! With such cramped conditions these trains are a catastrophe waiting to happen and waiting for another long winded enquiry cover-up. The law of probability says it will inevitably happen.
whats wrong with our country< look the way the germans run trains ,superbly

@nehalp100 but people have to get to work, or to their families. The train companys should provide adequate spaces.

Go to Japan and use a train during rush hour and then let me know what you think.
All I'm seeing is people crying but not willing to do anything about it, isn't that a surprise.

I think what these films show is, all trains are overcrowded at rush hour and people dont always think about their options at rush hour.
My, we did learn a lot today.
There was an article printed in "The Railway Magazine" mid way through 1901 saying exactly the same...

Big society Bank : Taking money from 'dormant' bank accounts is STEALING.
If WE took money from our employer without notice we'd be sacked and prosecuted.
I urge everyone to harass their MP into getting this crime STOPPED and Cameron's BS chums investigated by the police.
