3:05 when Danny comes in. it almost gives me tears. so very sad. RIP Danny you are truly missed. But as bruce said, "Phantom" Dan Feddericci just made one more of his infamous exits
R.I.P. Danny. You always made playing the Hammond B3 look so effortless. Had the pleasure of meeting you many times in Asbury Pk and the Jersey Shore. You always took the time to talk about anything. You will always be missed but you gave us plenty of great musical memories like the one here to comfort us. So long my friend.
weak parts? what weak parts? no, i dont agree with you at all,i liked the colaboration with max's band(you have to remmeber this was in a TV studio in front of a small crowd, thus the laid back feeling it had..)
I had a chance to see Bruce perform Kitty's Back in DC this past weekend. Amazing performance. Still doesn't top the earlier versions of this. Definetly check out the 75 Hammersmith version which clocks in at over 15 minutes.
Somehow the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Everyone is in fine form yet, this just does not jell. The song fails to really swing as it should which is nearly impossible with Max at drums.Check out London 1975 version
London 1975 version is my favorite of all time. Have the double box set on vinyl. Kitty's back is my fav Bruce song and i completely agree with your statement.
Bruce doesn't get nearly enough credit as a guitarist. He's right up there with the best. This guy is a real rock living legend. I love my Springsteen!
It's easy to get overlooked as a guitarist when you are also the best songwriter in the past half-century. Other great guitarists don't have this problem.
weaker than earlier tobaggan versiom by far...i am a bruce fanatic..but watch the early version.....guitar greatest of his career..no horns ,,,this drags ..im hurt
Saw it live in dublin as a rare treat in '03. Just as good here though. I don't know what these fuckers are talking about. The large band makes it great.
"Fantastic. Amazed the show would let him go that long. Max must haved pulled some strings"
Uhhh? Excuse me, this is BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and the entire friggen' E STREET BAND!!!! You think the Boss needed anyone to pull strings for him??? Are you stupid, or just ignorant?
It was Dec. 11,2002. I found someone on ebay who had all of Springsteen's tv performances on dvd. It is a great dvd, and this is one of the songs on it. It is unreal how much energy he puts into a tv performance. It was nice to see the E. Street band with Conans band which had some of the horn players from his Seeger Sessions band. Bruce always has been and always will be the best!!!!
Bruce Springsteen is America's greatest artist - ever! He is a great guitarist an emotive singer. What seperates him from everyone else is his incomparable songwriting. Kitty's Back is exhibit #58.
This is a great rendition, but remember the days when just six musicians made great music? Bruce, Clarance, Max, Roy, Danny, and Gary. On this version add Nils, Steve, Patti, and all the horns. The stage gets a little crowded, no?
Bear in mind, one of them is his wife.. what's he going to do? At least she does no harm.
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast... he did this and Merry Christmas Baby, and the show ran ten minutes over... they just let the man play. Absolutely amazing.
It's the only television performance of it's kind. This was during the Rising tour, and special for Conan he digs into the catalouge all the way back to '73. Then has a ten minute jam! Only the boss would go on national tv and not feel the need to promote his current album, just the need to bring down the house.
When will you Americans learn? Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Jon Lennon... You have legends within your midst... Whatever happened to Bob Dillon?! Bruce is... the Boss.
Wow wow wow. I thought he'd stopped doing this decades ago. I've got an extended version like this on bootleg from '78, which is the last I heard. One of my all-time top Boss songs and I think that album's vastly underrated.
Amazing! Best late night performance ever. This song is from the Wild, the Innocent and the e-street shuffle album. Great lyrics combined with a wonderful van Morrison sound.

Possibly the greatest intro of any of Bruce's great intro songs. Packs more into one intro than most manage in a whole song. Awesome.
