  • The Phantom lives on..........outstanding

  • noone better than E Street,

    R.I.P phantom Dan

  • 3:05 when Danny comes in. it almost gives me tears. so very sad. RIP Danny you are truly missed. But as bruce said, "Phantom" Dan Feddericci just made one more of his infamous exits

  • spettacolo

  • This is the absolute hammer. It's really doesn't get better than this!

  • Probably one of the Boss videos EVER!

  • great cut from The Wild the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle

Conan will keep this in his Best Of forever - and rightfully so!

  • when clarence comes in with the sax at 5:10, it gives me chills

  • What a band!!!!

  • Possibly the greatest intro of any of Bruce's great intro songs. Packs more into one intro than most manage in a whole song. Awesome.

  • R.I.P. Danny. You always made playing the Hammond B3 look so effortless. Had the pleasure of meeting you many times in Asbury Pk and the Jersey Shore. You always took the time to talk about anything. You will always be missed but you gave us plenty of great musical memories like the one here to comfort us. So long my friend.

  • I don't think Bruce and the ESB have played on a stage that small since the early '70s. hahaha...

  • R.I.P Danny Federici

  • So recall this late night tv masterpiece... they were smokin' great, no?

  • One of the best TV performances EVER! They could have jammed to Kitty's Back for 20 more minutes.

  • genial, como siempre

  • the trombone and trumpet player were on the Seeger Sessions Tour also

  • so greeeeeeeeeat!!!!!

i got one live version from 1973 (!!!!)....that is over 20 Minutes.....it is a real monument of brucerock!

If somebody wants to have it, then write me!

  • hello chrisfo103, i would like to have that version!!!!!!!! please write me to my email. Thanks

  • This is my favorite 10 minutes ever on TV. No kidding!!!

  • I just found out about this, and I agree.

  • realy the weak parts were by non-E Street Band Members, don't you agree?

  • weak parts? what weak parts? no, i dont agree with you at all,i liked the colaboration with max's band(you have to remmeber this was in a TV studio in front of a small crowd, thus the laid back feeling it had..)

  • I had a chance to see Bruce perform Kitty's Back in DC this past weekend. Amazing performance. Still doesn't top the earlier versions of this. Definetly check out the 75 Hammersmith version which clocks in at over 15 minutes.

  • absolutly fantastic!!!!! really great!!!! how Bruci can "reanimate" nearly 35 years old song....the greatest!!!!!

    WOW!!!

  • Somehow the whole is less than the sum of the parts. Everyone is in fine form yet, this just does not jell. The song fails to really swing as it should which is nearly impossible with Max at drums.Check out London 1975 version

  • London 1975 version is my favorite of all time. Have the double box set on vinyl. Kitty's back is my fav Bruce song and i completely agree with your statement.

  • It is way better live and in concert!

  • i favorited this. bruce is pimp

  • hereshecomes.hereshecomes.hereshecomes.hereshecomes....

    BRUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bruce doesn't get nearly enough credit as a guitarist. He's right up there with the best. This guy is a real rock living legend. I love my Springsteen!

  • It's easy to get overlooked as a guitarist when you are also the best songwriter in the past half-century. Other great guitarists don't have this problem.

  • BRUCE RUUUUUUUUUULES!!! I love you Boss! Leave Patti and come on home baby!

  • weaker than earlier tobaggan versiom by far...i am a bruce fanatic..but watch the early version.....guitar greatest of his career..no horns ,,,this drags ..im hurt

  • Check out my kitty's back cover thanks :)

  • I went to the ROck and Roll Hall of Fame two weeks ago. One question: How does Bruce get into the Hall of Fame without the E Street Band?

  • Because all of his albums only list Bruce Springsteen as the artist.

  • Thanks so much for uploading that video. I remember seeing it live and being completely amazed. What a performance!

  • bruce's solo is awesome

  • I didn't think he could top this. Until the next time they were on Conan.

  • Everytime I watch that it just makes me smile.

  • Saw it live in dublin as a rare treat in '03. Just as good here though. I don't know what these fuckers are talking about. The large band makes it great.

  • Bruce is such a fucking badass. Awesome.

  • This haqs got to be Springsteen's finest T.V. performance. It's great to see him and the band just jam!!

  • Awesome...it's just so great to see this...I'd never think I'd get to see Bruce and the band do this on national television!

  • Having the E Street band drummer as your musical director basically assured Conan of this TV moment....yippee

  • Fantastic. Amazed the show would let him go that long. Max must haved pulled some strings

  • "Fantastic. Amazed the show would let him go that long. Max must haved pulled some strings"

Uhhh? Excuse me, this is BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and the entire friggen' E STREET BAND!!!! You think the Boss needed anyone to pull strings for him??? Are you stupid, or just ignorant?

  • It was a joke jack ass.

  • Gotcha... "stupid" then....

  • Can anyone explain the lyrics?

  • It was Dec. 11,2002. I found someone on ebay who had all of Springsteen's tv performances on dvd. It is a great dvd, and this is one of the songs on it. It is unreal how much energy he puts into a tv performance. It was nice to see the E. Street band with Conans band which had some of the horn players from his Seeger Sessions band. Bruce always has been and always will be the best!!!!

  • Hey, if you could post the other half of his performance from 12/11/02 when he did Merry Christmas Bab, you would have my eternal gratitude!

  • Tim, it used to be on You Tube but it was pulled. Kitty is still on but Merry Xmas Baby got pulled. I don't get it.

  • Bruce Springsteen is America's greatest artist - ever! He is a great guitarist an emotive singer. What seperates him from everyone else is his incomparable songwriting. Kitty's Back is exhibit #58.

  • I love Elvis too but, to call him The King of Rock & Roll over Bruce is a joke given Springsteen's massive triumphs over the last two decades.

  • Thx for the awesome thing!

He is unbelievable! One of the best for all time!

  • Fantastic! One of my favorite Bruce songs. And with the horns! (La Bamba!) Thanks quantumrr.

  • I've been wearing this cut out. It is superior to the studio cut on "The Wild, the Innocent..."

  • Yes, but its not as good as the mammoth 16 min version on the new Hammersmith Apollo '75 set. And that version has just two guitarists!

  • You are right about the Hammersmith 75 performance snozzbert.

  • nice THE SONICS t-shirt Steve !

  • My favorite Bruce song--Here she comes, here she comes...

  • favorite song from my favorite bruce record on my favorite episode of my favorite show.

  • this was awesome.

  • this was also one of the best Conan's ever. remember the Santa pimp suit. one of the greatest late night tv shows ever. the best holiday show ever.

  • great video but when everyone is soloing tell me where is Stevie's solo????

  • This is a great rendition, but remember the days when just six musicians made great music? Bruce, Clarance, Max, Roy, Danny, and Gary. On this version add Nils, Steve, Patti, and all the horns. The stage gets a little crowded, no?

  • No.

  • The more, the merrier. Bruce and all of his friends. I wonder how that chick who screwed him over feels--

What was her name again, who cares....

  • I can't quite see the point of four guitarists. And two acoustic guitars at that. Its not like you can hear them.

  • You are absolutely right, snozz. They are on the stage for "political" reasons.

  • Bear in mind, one of them is his wife.. what's he going to do? At least she does no harm.

I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast... he did this and Merry Christmas Baby, and the show ran ten minutes over... they just let the man play. Absolutely amazing.

  • The politically incorrect response to your incredible stupid comment would be: "shut the F@#* up you nappy headed ho!

  • It DOES NOT get better than this!

  • Magic

  • couldn't you see Tom Waits doing this?

  • This is the first time I have seen this live. Most of the stuff from the first two albums is rare to see live.

  • Wow. I love you quantumrr. I forgot about that night. One of the best things I've ever seen.

  • What a great performance! I can't get enough of this tune! He should play it more often! I love it

  • Watched this video for the first time tonight. Wow! This is the way Kitty's Back should be. Best Bruce has ever come across on TV.

Going to try and find a way to download this song to a CD.

    Ohhhhh, what can I do.

  • That is the best ever Springsteen clip, I think. Absolutely love that song.

  • You just made my night!

  • This is Great

  • did you notice that the trumpet player and the trombone player are the same two players from The Seeger Sessions Band

  • That's cause they're in the Max Weinberg Seven.

  • and the Asbury Jukes

  • And don't forget: the baritone saxplayer too!

  • La Bamba! Looks like the Asbury Jukes section, aka the Miami Horns.

  • I think at least one of them was in the horn section during the Tunnel of Love tour.

  • AAhhhhhh Wonderful video !!!! I could die after seeing this !!

  • It's the only television performance of it's kind. This was during the Rising tour, and special for Conan he digs into the catalouge all the way back to '73. Then has a ten minute jam! Only the boss would go on national tv and not feel the need to promote his current album, just the need to bring down the house.

  • Yeah really. It is so rare to see this.

  • When will you Americans learn? Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Jon Lennon... You have legends within your midst... Whatever happened to Bob Dillon?! Bruce is... the Boss.

  • Bob Dillon? Whatever!

  • Bruce, ESB, the Jukes, and Kitty. It just don't get better than this.

  • Wow wow wow. I thought he'd stopped doing this decades ago. I've got an extended version like this on bootleg from '78, which is the last I heard. One of my all-time top Boss songs and I think that album's vastly underrated.

  • oh man, why has he released 2 albums without them? i agree - best late night performance by any band ever.

  • Amazing! Best late night performance ever. This song is from the Wild, the Innocent and the e-street shuffle album. Great lyrics combined with a wonderful van Morrison sound.
