This is not a song about the RAN. Not that I disrespect what they do. Its about taking steps in life but never actually sometimes quite knowing why. Not at all to actually do with the RAN, though I guess it would make sense to people in war type jobs, moreso perhaps. peace
@Cranners1974 No the song is not about the RAN and was never said to be about the RAN. Not sure where you got that idea from. But if you listen to the lyrics, it is very relevant to the life that sailors lead.
I remember i watched this at recruit school on the last day of training before we went on RAP. We were doing the chaplaincy thing and half the div had already gone home. Fucking memories.
As a woman listening to this, I thought the "World was my Oyster too" and it inspired me. But Alas, Men don't want a woman to do this work, They don't want them to "stand on their own two feet". Your either a SLUT or a DYKE. Still waiting for FREEDOM and to earn money in my own right.
@starquant Your comments are completely uncalled for. Women do this work just as well as anyone else, and have earned the respect of their male counterparts. For anyone to come out and say something like that undermines the brilliant work that women in the RAN do on a daily basis.
Of course, there are a few military roles which are still restricted to men, but given the outstanding example set by the women of the Australian Defence Force, I have no doubt this will be rectified.
@schroecat1 well good for you. You represent only 5% of women earning more than minimum wage ( as at Jan 10th 2010, stats from La trobe Uni from Melbourne ). Don't attack me, you fool. The world is a funny place indeed, and the most peculiar of all is a woman, who thinks that because she is doing well, then so must all the others. Get off your high horse you silly bitch and grow up.
@starquant It must be sad to be so filled with hate and vitriol that you feel your only recourse is to lash out at the world. Why do you hate yourself and your gender so badly that you feel the need to perpetuate the negative images that many people have of the feminist movement? The way you are carrying on here, in a public forum, doesn't help.
The Australian business community largely realises the gender inequity within Australian society, and is actively acting to redress this imbalance.
Legal terem pego essa música dos anos 80...assim a juventude de hj pode sentir um pouco o que nós na época sentiamos....a gente curtia muito...como era bom...a vida era outra...a gente era feliz e não sabia....
Howdies everyone, GE 234 Getting Division, The RAN is a Family you can rely on no matter what rain, hail or shine, I left a few yrs ago, seeking something better and guess what it is? The NAVY im coming back this year cant wait. BTW in the video is exactly what you see is what you get, HONOUR, HONESTY, COURAGE, INTEGRITY, LOYALTY
A comment from a 47-year old guy from the states: I'm new to the 'Gurus, and appreciate what I'm hearing, music I missed long ago. This video, albeit probably "old news" to the many RAN personnel posting here, has introduced me to the RAN. To me, this video honors your service, in a positive manner with lasting impressions. With great new appreciation of those serving in the RAN, "THANK YOU !", from a neighbor up north....
haha, reminds me of recruit process in cerberus, heard this pretty much every day. and that god damned cinema, perfect place to sleep, god help you if you do
bennnification......welcome to the family mate...........good luck in your endevours as an AT.Hope you pass all your courses and hope to see you in the fleet some day. To all those who seem to have been embarressed by this video and seem to get no satisfaction from it at all........you must have been pretty shit to be able to look back on your career and not be proud......good ridence.......the puss is better without you.
Hey i've been excepted into the navy but can't decide wether to go for Marine Tech or Avaition Tech (i've qualified for both) Problem is i gotta wait 6 months or so for the next intake on Avaition tech.
So any one have any experience or knowledge with either job?
Year of the submariner... great start for the RAN with 5 out of service... LOL!!!
Yes I hated fucken dayhands too. Do their 9-5 spiel and spend the rest of the day in the gym or on the flight/vehicle deck in their gym outfits.... No wonder they could afford to keep in shape and enjoy themsleves while the rest of us tow the line around the clock and become aggrevated when there's no coffee!!!
well i pretty much just want to know what it's like i guess, what type of things do you do at sea and is there plenty of time to hang out with your mates?
I have served on subs and ships in Sydney and Perth, travel is good you get out what you put in, take the rough with the smooth and you will have a ball
LMAO i remember this shit first day at recruit school..........must say probably the best 6 years of my life were spent in the PUSS but as the good NAVY slogan says Never Again Volunteer Yourself good times
I am the officer at The RAS station at 00:25. It was on the HMAS Sydney during operation Desert Storm. Lots of great footage of the Sydney. Note the darkened numbers on the bow. We copped hell for that when we got back to Australia. Was to make us less visible.
Imagine my disgust when I call my kids in to see the video and the language posted is disgusting. Not to mention how irreleveant they are to the video. Aside. My favourite Hoodoo Gurus song, great vid.
The green team are fucken pansies alright... They're nothing more than a bunch of fat old dinosaurs who stand over you and don't really train you at all... Just standing by ready with their motorolas and notebooks and getting ready for their three hour debriefs at the end of each DCEX... Useless cunts!!!
I was shown this video in Ballarat in November 2007 when HMAS Ballarat came to town. The Navy boys got onto You Tube at a local bar.
The clip actually made me appreciate what these crew members (and our complete Defence Force) do for our country...months away at sea to defend our great nation Australia.
Hoodoo Gurus at their finest and a corker of a clip !!!
Being ex Navy myself i understand how the song relates to the job. But the last time someone played it, I threw the CD out the fucken scuttle - on and on it went.
