Fuckin cheat Mcparland! Must be have horrible looking at his medal everyday knowing he won it by default. For a crap team like Villa who only finished 10th in the league, cheating (in the days of no subs) was the only option
Super Villa!! The previous year was Man City beating Birmingham scum 3-1. So it was up the true kings of English football to put the record straight against the team with the most plastic supporers in the world!!
McParland's challenge is the biggest black mark on any FA cup final ever seen, makes his 2 goals a complete mockery, just glad he's famous for nothing else other than cheating.
You want to shut the fuck up. Back then charging was part of the game, Woods held his ground and took McParland on. Look at the 58 final and what Lofthouse did to the same keeper! fuck you. Peter Mcparland is a villa legend, an Irish great. Get your fucking facts right before you bismirch a legend.
Well Lofthouse's was bad to but i always thought the ball was actually there to be challenged on a different goalkeeper Harry Gregg by the way, and as for Mcparlands challenge the ball was in woods hands when Mcparland was outside the box! It just reminds me of Maradona against england in '86, the cheat wins..
@ilpleut75 Dick head, your shoulders are at the top of your arms and not waist high. What part of Ray Woods body caught cheating Mcparland's face.Duncan Edwards should have kicked Mcparland in the head when he was on the ground and then he would have had something to cry about.Villa should try some more cheating and they might win the cup again but I very much doubt it.
Bollocks - the rules were differnt then. McParland turns away at the last minute because Wood is going to flatten him. There were no subs and the outcome could have been different if wood was Ok accepted. Busby when asked at the time why no-one (not even his great team or Cullis's Wolves or Chapman's Arsenal or Huddersfiled) could win the double since Villa in 1898 said - '..because no-one has ever been good enough...' Get your facts right son!
Oh so it was ok too just clatter the goalie in then days was it?? I know my facts sunshine, still i was always told to play the ball, not the man. Still weve made up for it since, maybe see you in europe next year, then again...
Harry Gregg dislocated his shoulder on Monday 16 January 1961 in a league match with Spurs at Old Trafford. It was in the first half at the Scoreboard End saving a shot from John Smith (I think). Alex Dawson went in goal.
Gregg played on the right wing in the second half with his shoulder strapped up.He chased a ball to the byline and back-heeled across the goal where Mark Pearson calmly scored to give United the lead. Later, Norbert Stiles made it 2-0 and that was the final score.
watch very carefully after the challenge. Roger byrne united captain runs in to stop duncan edwards united no6 from sticking one on mcparland. Should have let him ave it!
i have this on dvd the only full footage that can be seen by the public as the rest of the footage of edwards is in old trafford.but in the only footage they played him at center back so we did not see the best of his ablity go foward as he had to stay back.
if you can watch the 1958 cup final,United v Bolton you will see a shoulder charge on Ray Wood by Nat Lofthouse which is given as a goal,He nearly barges him through the net !! .Like i say they were allowed to charge goalkeepers in those days,,
Nigel Sims......One of Villas best ever keepers!

@nicknag321 Playing against 10 men for the majority of the match might have something to do with that.

The reality of villas win by default came home to haunt them 3 months after this final when united hammered them 4 nil in the charity shield!

It was harry gregg in goal in the 58 final not ray wood. Mcparland deep down inside knows he won that medal by default and by cheating!

As much as Peter McParland tries to justify the Ray Wood challenge the Pathe footage shows clearly he deviates his run to hunt Wood down.

The name is McParland from County Down a Villa hero, Peter scored 5 goals in the 1958 World Cup Finals in Sweden 1958, a great whole-hearted player.
