  • Awesome podcast. I agree with you that this guy has some good points, but he really goes too far in some areas. Personally, TNG is my second favorite of all the shows. I love the original series, but I think it didn't go on long enough to live up to its full potential, which was sad as it was a great series, it just had problems competing with the other sci-fi show Lost in Space, which I hate. DS9 is my favorite because, as you said, it was fresh and gave an entirely new outlook on the franchise

  • re, 52:34

That's exactly what Hollywood is these days, guys.

    BTW, great podcast.

  • J.J. Abrams will be eliminated.

  • "The first 2 season of TNG did not gel" ??? S2 was a serious improvement over S1 and even contains some of the classic eps from the show, "Measure of a Man", "Elementary Dear Data". Might want to rephrase that.

  • @talaxian1 conspiracy was my favorite episode and it was in season 1.

but overall season 1 did suck. season 2 was much better.

season 7 sucked again as they ran out of good ideas and the same suckness continued into voyager

  • @CIarKent I thought the season 1 ep, "The Neutral Zone" was the good ep from S1. Conspiracy was ok. The writing did start to fall off towards the end of TNG as the better scripts were going to DS9 and VOY.

  • @colinmcom14 That's like saying "It's you opinion that Tony Bennet is a great singer," or "...that Citizen Kane is a great film."

    Doesn't work.

I know you're young. There are a lot of things you don't understand yet. But there are things that are pretty well beyond opinion. You'll get it one day.

  • Good stuff Captain Logan and Sarah! Hey neat info on Picard's jacket at appropriately picardsjacket dot blogspot dot com

  • Seems like what you're both saying is that for Trek to be good requires a very careful balance of elements. That sound right?

  • @fraggenaught Absolutely, yes.

    -CL

  • @Geekvolution So do you think it's possible B&B were thinking kinda the same thing but just sorta bungled the formula? Whaddya think are some of the essential elements of Trek (for it to be good) and do you think a single ep can encapsulate these elements or is it really something that has to be taken in totality rather than picked apart ep by ep?

  • You guys should talk about video games, that would be interesting.

  • no more holo deck i am sick of it

  • well i can see what he said about the fx i would like to see an upgrade

  • And characterization in Abrams movie sucked - especially when it comes to Kirk, he was just generic rebel without a cause type and a gigantic duschbag. Spock was acting like dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde etc. And all this people just hate each other - there is no sense of comradery or friendship. And this was big thing in TOS.

  • Good show, would have lied to see it as video though.

  • 1. I don't know what he is talking about.

    2. Aliens? Borg - friendly? Utopia. This what convince me to Trek in the first place.

    3. Allegory - again this is what convince me to Trek.

    4. OK, I can understand his posytion.

    5. OK. I aree with him.

    6. Data is one of best Trek characters. He is more like Pinocchio than Spock :)

    7. How many Borg episodes TNG have? Not many.

8.Uniforms are OK. 9. SF is cerebral. Read about history of science fiction. And I hate Abram's movie is generic summer movie

  • We have seen DS9 in Babylon 5.

  • TNG was the best star trek series by far. it's voyager that killed the franchise

  • The argument that TNG led to the fall of the franchise is absurd on its face. It's basically an argument that TNG never needed to exist in the first place. You could just as easily say that TOS led to the downfall of the franchise simply by existing in the first place to allow for the possibility of spinoffs. ANY show that followed up TOS would be prone to the idea that it led to the downfall of the franchise for simply allowing for the possibility of a continuation of any kind by any writers

  • I tend to favor Star Wars but I like Star Trek a lot and for different reasons. And I kind of hate Abram's Star Trek movie for trying to be Star Wars. It's like, if I have a brunette wife and a blond mistress, and my mistress tries to change things up by wearing a brunette wig and acting like my wife. I've already got that at home, lady. If I want to see Star Wars, I can just watch Star Wars. I don't need the watered down version that jettisons the intellectual exploration Star Trek should have

  • I think casting British actors as French people is kind of a joke from the show. The original plan for Voyager was to cast a French woman as a British captain, but the actress didn't work out so they went with Mulgrew. But I understood it as a joke about the two European rivals kind of switching sides culturally by the 24th century. And yes, Bashir kind of throws this theory off.

  • I can't disagree with that top 10 any more. All of those points are rediculous. TNG was probably the best Trek series.

  • The guy who wrote this obviously is a fan of the original and not much else. And I have a feeling he watched the first 2 seasons given the points he brings up. Had he watched Season 3 onwards and DS9 I think a lot of his points get shot down. But then again he says he prefers the cowboy feel of the original to the more "mature" TNG universe. I love all trek but I'm completly to opposite. Give me serious drama any day of the week.

  • I will admit, some of this guy's criticisms have some validity while others just seem silly. What show isn't a product of its time? And not liking Data or the uniforms seems like a personal taste issue. TNG was what got me hooked on Trek. Watching it now, I find it's not my favorite of the series, but I can't tell if it's because it's not as good as I remember or because I've just seen every episode so many times. Anyway, as always, I enjoyed listening to the discussion.

  • Hey guys love your vids, but I think your theme song is OK, it sounds kinda old I think, I'm not really sure. Just saying I think you should change it. - Colin.

  • @colinmcom14 Not gonna happen. It's the song they had playing at their wedding. It's called "The Best Is Yet To Come" & it's a bona fide classic. Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jimmy Darren all made versions & it's legitimately one of the greatest songs of all time.

Old does NOT equal bad. That's so ignorant. Since your age isn't posted, you're probably a minor. Your generation needs to get your heads out of your asses and realize that things DID happen before your birth.

  • @xJoeEDangerouslyx Um, are you certain you bit that whippersnapper's head off over the right thing, grampa? "The Best is Yet to Come" is not the song playing at the start of this specific video; it's the music they use for the Geeks Not Nerds podcast. I mean, geez, I think it's stupid to complain about something because it's old, too, but I didn't see any reason to get so freakin' riled up over it.

  • @rocketdave I wasn't complaining that the song was old, I meant outdated, like the Law & Order theme song, I don't hate things just because their old, like silent films, and songs made before 2000 (I mean any songs from late 1800s to late 90's as old), besides it seems like a taste choice to me.

  • @colinmcom14 Ah, well, that makes more sense. Like I said, that guy getting so personal was pretty uncalled for.

  • @rocketdave I agree, that guy has a problem with young people or something. He was completely wrong about me. Oh, well you meet people like that.

  • @rocketdave I agree, that guy has a problem with young people or something. He was completely wrong about me. Oh, well you meet people like that every now and then.

  • @xJoeEDangerouslyx Holy crap, what's your problem? It was a freaking suggestion, they don't have to listen to me, and regardless I'm still gonna be subscribed whether they change it or not, I love Captain Logan and Vince, and I love their channel, and it's nice that song was played at the wedding, but IT'S NOT THEIR THEME SONG, AND IT'S YOUR OPINION THAT IT'S ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME. Plus, how dare you assume I'm some apethetic teenager who doesn't give a shit about history.

  • @xJoeEDangerouslyx And I don't think old equals bad, I don't think Smells Like Teen Spirit, Brown Eyed Girl, or I Put A Spell On You, are bad JUST BECAUSE THEIR OLD. Or All Quiet on the Western Front, The Great Dictator, The War of the Worlds, 1984, Edgar Allan Poe, paintings by Van Gogh, classical music, all good old things.

I have always loved history and culture, and I don't make assumptions about entire age groups, AND YOU TRIED TO CHECK MY AGE?!?!?

  • @colinmcom14 Damn skippy I did. Because you sound like a petulant child. I still think I'm right.

  • @colinmcom14 Come to think of it, if you aren't some punk kid, why are you so indignant that I checked your profile. I'm fairly confident you did the same thing. Just prove me right with your venomous barely coherent responses. Go ahead. Devote more time to me. Go ahead.

  • Cap, I totally agree with your critique on the Worf/Troi relationship. I'm not opposed to interracial relationships on TV, it just came off as being really forced. Btw, what did you about Worf's cliched story arc with his son Alexander on the show?

  • I think the only thing worse than the Riker/Troi relationship was the Picard/Crusher relationship if it can even be called a relationship. It’s a blink and you miss it relationship and only two episodes in the final seasons deal with it.

  • Heresy!!! Criticizing Beverly Crusher!!! XD

Really good video, hat's off to both of you :)

  • I agree that the shot on video look is distracting.

  • love this vid

  • JJ Abrams might have saved Star Trek financially, but he killed Star Trek for me, normally i am the one that can ignore stuff that dosen´t make sence in movies alot of the time, but JJ Abrams Star Trek have so big issues that i could not ignore it, the villian made no sence at all, how Kirk becomes Captain ect.

So i will keep watching TNG and TOS, i even prefer Enterprise and Voyager over it, hell i rather watch G.I. Joe again than watch JJ Abrams Star Trek again

  • @jlauritsen I agree with a lot of your complaints, but it wasn't like old Trek didn't have it's problems. My overall opinion of Abram's Trek is probably not going to be complete until the full body of work is done and released i.e. the three films for which the actors were contracted. If by then the major issues of the first film aren't resolved or are exacerbated, then there is a genuine grievance with his vision for the franchise.

  • @666deadman1988 sure some of the old Star Trek movies had issues, but atleast they aren´t highly praised, JJ Abrams Star Trek got many issues, some are a question of taste, but the story ones are so big i cannot get past them, when the old Star Trek movies was bad it could be seen in the reviews and the raitings, guess i don´t understand how so many reviewers can just see past the huge flaws in the story and hail this as the best Star Trek movie, i really wanted to like it.

  • I don't know if I'm just being biased, but I didn't really agree with any of this guy's opinions far enough to condemn TNG for ruining the franchise. What ruined the franchise for me was overkill and running out of ideas. We didn't need 3 overlapping series and 4 films running within a 10-year period. The people in charge (Rick Berman primarily) should've allowed the fans some breathing room and allowed new, exciting ideas some time to manifest, rather than running the franchise into the ground.

  • ok between crusher vs dr. polaski i perfer crusher cause she has a history with captain picard and is the only person who could (on ship who could) order the captain around. why is there a dislike for beverly crusher other than wesley crusher?

  • @666deadman1988 Yep, we thought the same thing.

  • Are you going to review shows like what you do in Superhero Rewind with Movies (Batman Beyond Batman TAS)?

  • @9998Flash Every now and then, on Rewind, yes.
