I heard one of these sirens last summer. I was in San Francisco for a convention and some sightseeing. I had just come out of the Mission Dolores when I heard the test(didn't hear voice announcement). I saw several of the ATIs; some of which were indeed mounted on the bases of older sirens.
@Saiko47 tv's arent on all night , hardly anyone uses radio anymore , people are to cheap to buy weather radios , and not everyone keeps their cell on at night .
Bull shit kid, it's funny to me that it's captured the attention of EMA directors, electricians and electronic engineers.
I think Tommy would like to shoot you first. He's been waiting for you.
Oh by the way, we all know it's you buginafug. Or should I say..the husband of a Thunderbolt 1000 in a white wedding dress..that later turned out to be gay.
That's interesting... after all of the negative comments for ATI sirens I've seen from knowledgeable siren enthusiasts like you, it really doesn't surprise me that SF would go with something so crappy. Infrastructure here lags behind so many other places I've lived in this state.
The siren is barely audible in my neighborhood; it has the same effect as a distant car alarm. I wasn't even aware a spoken announcement followed the test. I feel super safe now. :P
you cant here it because they only play at half volume to test it dumbass 'cause if they did sad people like you would complain that some other siren has a noise that didnt annoy people or some shit like that!!!
ATIs are horrible. They defete the point of telling people to go indoors. You cant hear em'' so people go OUTSIDE in a warning to hear if its going off or not.
In my opinion, ATI is nothing but a bunch of crooks. Their stuff is crap and the San Francisco bid was RIGGED! The mayor wouldn't even let city employees talk to the press about the ATI problems or they would be fired. The EM director even hid in her house from the press for 3 days. Whelen has a much better siren than this Taiwanese crap!
I would guess about 8-10. That video is of the one at 630 Sansome St. There's a great one in Lafayette Park near the gardener's shed. It's very loud if you're close to it.
I have a friend who lives in the Marina his whole life and swears they must have implimented the Tuesday at 12 noon test sometime recently because He cannot remember a time in his life he heard this.
He thinks that they replaced some of the older WWII sirens for these fully functional ones.. But earthquakes don't exactly need sirens because there is no warning and they are gone with all damage done in a short amount of time.
Wow, I like how they kept the original tripod stand and intake tube for the STL-10 that siren replaced. That is the worst quality siren/speaker ever built. What a shame they replaced the good ol' reliable mechanicals with this lousy shit!
sue ati.

Poor tourists who don't know it's a test at first. Or those that don't understand English.

Is this for Earthquakes?
ISCLChannel1011 9 months ago
So far the city has blown out 350 ATI drivers . The ATIs just cannot handle the STL-10 recording.
sirenfan97 11 months ago
Most likely about 7500 people shit their pants before hearing the "This is a test" section.
JosephDS1997 11 months ago
Why is it mounted on a STL-10 intake?

I do have to say though that your camera does have a pretty spiffy zoom on it. Thanks for posting the vid, even though the siren sucks.
