  • I know it's an ABBA song and they were in fact a very good band, but Karen Carpenter owns it like nobody else... <3

  • Love Agnetha FOREVER AND EVER!!!!

  • ABBA sold more records than the BEATLES

  • My Hymne

  • Her voice was a conformation of something larger than just a musical idea. It gave you the idea of a higher force.

  • Used as a theme tune for Laser 558 in the eighties

  • its not the same when you know their lip-synching but still, its Abba and thats what counts :-)

  • Looks like she is singing into a pack of gum. ha ha.

I love her performances, she is always so animated and gives the song life.

  • rip off song ov karen carpenter song

  • @plasticman101 It's the other way round. It's an ABBA original and Carpenters did a cover

  • @plasticman101 hahahaha ignorant fool

  • @plasticman101carpenters made a lot of rip off songs and never that ABBA needed to rip anyones song most specially from the carpenters.

  • This song is a Karen Carpenter copy RIP Karen

  • @ieatpeas24 are all you carpenters fans stupid? every video for Thank You For The Music whether it's Abba or Carpenters, you say ABBA ripped it off the Carpenters.

ABBA wrote the song for their album and was sung by Agnetha. Carpenters are the rip off.

  • @liveandletdie2008 Not ALL us Carpenters fans are stupid (in fact, the Carpenters were big ABBA fans themselves and met them at Starparade. Though they did a live version of TYFTM, they never released the one they recorded because Richard felt he couldn't do a better arrangement than ABBA's). However, the line "I am the girl with golden hair" should've been a dead giveaway this was originally ABBA since Karen was obviously a brunette.

  • @ieatpeas24 I´m sorry to dissapoint You Sir but this song is originally written by the band you hear. But Carpenters likewise legendary.....

  • Karen Carpenter ripp off she sung this song 10 years ago .. im so dissapointed with abba .. sweed copy

  • Thank you for your music Abba

  • What's the song at the opening?

  • Cannot be matched..

  • Love this song Thanks Abba

  • re-shown in 90s on top of the pops special this clip came from the Mike Yarwood xmas special on bbc december 1978,Mike was a tv impressionist

  • Agnetha Faltskog damn she's so beautiful

  • who would have thought a group from sweden would win the eurovision song contest, not the first year they appeared but the second, and go on to become a group that is truly universal and known pretty much everywhere in the world, even after all these years. bravo abba, the first group i ever saw on stage in 1977 and still the best two concerts i have ever seen, the song "thank you for the music" was indeed sung twice in these concerts, the second as the finale with all the performers on stage.

  • i love abba!! thank you for the uploading---justanickygthang

  • i love abba music all my life and still do great

  • ABBA just makes me smile every time I hear any of their songs, and to them I say,THANK YOU for the music and thank you for uploading.

  • the most kind songs were written by the beatles, abba and by duo elton john-bernie taupin. no other songs can calm me down and help forget troubles. i often find the solutions while listening. thats the power of music! thank you!

  • No, Agnetha honey, thank you for all the years of incredibly beautiful and original music that has charmed and enchanted us. There will be other groups, but there will never be another ABBA.

In the world of music legends, one that stands above the rest will always be ABBA.

  • i grew up when abba started up i am nearly 50 now they are in my heart the best band in my generation never to be beat , i just wish they were still togeather , i sill get the pleasure playing there songs wot still brings tears to my eyes , thankyou for the music abba

  • Canta Muito !!!

  • Love ABBA

  • I love them so so so so much :D

  • Wow, this is an amazingly bad song.

  • agnetha,... MY LOVE!!!

  • thank you for the music, ABBA

  • Agnetha is a SUPER STAR, THE BEST OF ALL.

  • I think this is a Live performance.

  • ABBA forever!

  • ABBA - O mundo todo agradece a VOCÊS ABBA pela sua musica. AMOOOOOOOOOOO vcs.

  • Agnetha, you smile and the whole World is happy.

  • Karen carpenter rocks!

  • she was even more stunning with long hair ... just like shown here.

  • @iuliusdan same feeling----they were the best, and will be too.

  • Happy Birthday, Agnetha! Thank you for all the beautiful music. Wishing you and your family the very best.

  • I agree this is definatley live, I think they are fantastic live, this is a great version, I have just seen the Mama mia on TOTP and that is a great live version also.

  • @KERINS1977 It was not live. BBC union rules at the time meant that British musicians had to be used so they had people "playing over" the track but used the basic recorded vocals and instruments. It sounds different because there are less overdubs than the original album version which is why many think that it was live. An easy mistake to make.

  • I agree this is definatley live, a very good live version I have to say!

  • i like ABBA!

  • And to the person who posted this:

It is LIVE. It is the one ABBA song that they usually sang LIVE on TV. They are well known for miming most of their songs, but listen again against your album, and you will see this is indeed LIVE.

  • This is not Top of the Tops. It is from the English program The Generation Game. ABBA were contestants that night.

  • Not The Generation Game. This is from a MIke Yarwood Christmas Special.

  • This isn't TOTP; they just used this clip on the TOTP2 Abba special in the about 1998.

  • Great song, I love it.

  • even some song not really good,Abba still a super singer

  • Oh, to be that young again. ABBA songs were awesome.

  • Extraordinario grupo. Que raro que no haya comentarios en español.

  • This is not from Top of The Pops...it is actually from The Mike Yarwood Christmas Show from the BBC , in 78. You can find this on the ABBA The Album Deluxe cd/dvd. It is really lovely though!! :-)

  • It most definitely isn't live. It sounds exactly like the 8 track tape that I listened to over and over again as a kid. At any rate, any live performance would have all instruments on stage. Their live shows have a lot more than just the four of them.

    They are a great band!

  • It isn't live. They had to "play over" the backing tape with British musicians, or play some of the instruments live in order to abide by the union rules at the time. The vocals, and principal backing, is on tape though.

  • Oh yes, the union rules! How stupid!

  • check out the live version of thank you for the music in hamburg here on youtube. it showcases the power of agnetha's voice.

  • I didn't know David Spade was part of ABBA,LMAO.

  • Oh my God, I haven't laughed so hard in years! There were tears rolling down my cheeks. Evil but funny!

  • Hahaha,thanx babes,I thin k he looks just like him,doesn't he?

  • LOVE ABBA!!!!!!!!!

  • Are you sure this isn't live. Sounds like it is to me:)

  • Yup!!This is most DEFINITELY live!!It amazes me sometimes when people can't tell, but i'm glad YOUR audio/visual capabilities seem to be working excellently!!Love Maz,X...

  • Dont be so rediculous, THIS IS NOT LIVE, they are miming...... Its a hard song to sing live because of the over dubs and the melodies... You can find Agnetha singing this live on you tube, ((((Late late breakfast show))) and (( abba in concert))),, actualy she doesnt do a very good job singing it live, Like I said its a hard song to sing Live......

  • she does sing it live from switzerland if you look it up. and she can sing it live . most poor performances are tech. problems. her voice is second to none

  • Love this song!

  • And if u dont belive me, check out, Abba on Dick Cavertt singing this very song ((( not so very good))) live...

  • Why did they say it was their last hit???

  • because it was the last single released by their record company in 1983, and they were supposed to be an active band then, although they hadn't done anything together that year.

  • gosh...musically it´s pop, but I wouldn´t class it with any style...it´s beyond pop, it´s the anthem of music lol!!!!

  • This is from TOTP2 but originally this performance was on "The Mike Yarwood Show". Just in case anyone is interested!!!

  • I love ABBA. Have to be one of my favourite bands out there. Been listening to their music since I was little. Don't know which is my favourite ABBA song as they have so many good ones. Love their feel good music. Very uplifting.

  • thank u for the ABBA.

  • da best

  • self acknowledgement

  • die asshole, everybody knows ABBA is the best!

  • gracias por tu musica abba gracias

  • Such a beautifiul music and what a voice to go.. This music is timeless..

  • ABBA is simply great!

    Best group ever!

Their music moves everybody, young and old, poor and rich, from Europe or America, Africa, Asia, Australia!

    ABBA I LOVE YOU!

  • Where is episode with this song from "ABBA the movie"?

  • I'm sure as hell sorry ABBA got in the way of all the typical television overlapping crap about things no one could care less about. The BBC is is/\was as bad as American television.

  • this is my favorite abba song ever!!!!!

  • i want their outfits!

  • True best music ever . And i also mean they could have 1 more concert for real fans no matter when where :)

    peace

  • thank you 4the best music ever abba!

  • tuning the piano! jeez man thats the kind of thing that made this kind of music so popular , imperfections in tunes, beautiful vocals. strange lyrics long live the days when every pop star isnt a carbon copy of the next one.

  • this song everybody has to learn in shcool:P

  • And we should learn in Universal History about Abba

  • I always thought that it was from 1983 and their final song

  • You sre correct, it was the last single in UK in 1983 albeit was always played on radio since it appeared on The Album in 1978, May well have been released earlier on the continent...

  • they need the poano tuned!! still a great song though

  • One of the nicest pop songs ever, ABBA forever!!! They live in our hearts...

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • Love this snog!

  • dont they look beautiful. This is actually an appearance they done here in the uk called "the mikeyarwood show"although TOTP have got a hold of it.

  • abba and the bee gees for some people the greatest of seventies, for me both the best of all times.

  • It doesn´t go without tears when abba is on!

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful video. I am so lucky to have been alive and in my prime when ABBA created and performed songs like this.

  • This music makes me so nostalgic :)

  • you ve just said it all she looks amazing

  • I am transfixed as I gaze upon the animated emotional palette projected by Agnetha's heavenly face. Such a palette combined with her glorious voice seduces a weightless euphoria. Mercy!

  • sorry server=serve, and i am wondering also how abba just with a guitar a piano and a set of drums they have all this success.

  • they also had much more instruments;

it was just not shown xD

  • i don't think so that will be ever music like the music of 80's and the music of abba, it seems that people today they doesn't know how to listen music or they just listen everything they "server" to them, nice that some people still listen music from the past especially 60's and 80's

  • lalalalala(8)

  • This is an impressive live performance by ABBA! Yes, it IS live, and Agnetha is doing her best vocal ever live -as well as appearing to be in a splendid condition. Lovely piano by Benny, too! This is December 6th or 7th (1978), and Agnetha and Björn announced their divorce a month later. Looking good despite it all...

  • Aghetha is a very beautiful women.

  • It's no denying both women were beautiful, but why should we be comparing who was prettier? Let's keep this about the group, the music and the song. They were awesome for their time and the fact that people are still watching this proves their longevity.

  • Agnetha was said to be in the top 5 most beautiful women in the world in the seventies, she was the main force in Abba strongest most beautiful voice beautiful looks she had it all, and at 57 in 2007 she is still very beautiful, a new album on the way from Agnetha!!!!

  • Is not of the japandese television is of the uk special mike yarwood chismas show of 1978. A message for the new Agnatha fans, again: she was and is uggly without cosmetics, frida have 5 years more than Agnetha but always has been more sezy and beautiful.

  • Get some therapy!!!

  • Yeah Frida was really Sezy. Grrr. And you know how Agnetha looked like without makeup because you used to wake up by her side every day or what?

  • Agnetha is stunningly beautiful - She should have come away with far more booty than she did. she was the voice and the main focal point of the whole show.

Abba would not have had such success without her. Everyone fell in love with Agnetha.

  • The best ABBA song ever!

  • In fact this is live as ABBA appeared on the Mike Yearwood show that year in Dec of 1978. As I have the full show and this is live like the Japan tv special is.

  • always, forever, ABBA the BEST

  • Whether it's live or not, it's difficult to tell. i think they played over backing tracks that included backing vocals, perhaps, but i'm pretty sure this could be live given the awesome truly live version, from Japan that will list under the same search. the one with the orchestra and confetti. GLORIOUS. And there's something about the way jiggles around moving her feet, rocking at the knees, sort of slightly crouched. And surely the world's most beautiful smile.

  • Also the live version shot during their 1979 concert tours thats on the ABBA IN CONCERT DVD and you can find on YOUTUBE is also excellent. Agnetha sounds spectacular on that live rendition. Great voice.

  • im 15.. and i like those songs ... sure im listening rap too but this are the really best songs!

    =BBB=

    greetings from croatia

  • thank you Abba for making my childhood be so great!i have the best memories of your music and those magnificent times! you will be in my heart for all eternity!

  • IT IS LIVE YOU IDIOT

  • Another ABBA best song!

  • Agnetha is so beautiful the star of Abba, where would they be without her.

  • How beautiful Agnetha looks!!!

  • Not a bore.. I love you so...

  • ABBA.... I love you so... You Are something special, in all honesty. See you next life.

  • thank you for the joy in my live with your songs abba

  • Sweet. Love those girls in the sparkly suits. Agnetha makes the tie look very sexy.

  • My favorite of all their songs.

  • You r spot on as we say in Australia best song ever

  • I Love this song!!! I've been an ABBA fan since high school (about 20 years) and they are still a joy to listen to. I love the white piano too, awesome.

  • dey r sooooooooo gd i luv dis song of abba!

  • "So I say thank you for the music. The songs I'm singing. Thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty, what would life be? Without a song and a dance, what are we?". I love those lyrics so much. They are full of truth, and are exactly how I feel about the best way to live life.

  • Dude, that's like BBC in the late 70's, err 80's. That's so coool.

  • Very ,VEry good song!

  • Thank you Abba for all the songs you are singing....

  • Aaah, this is soooo sweet! Check out Agnetha's beautiful Swedish 's': "Mother says I was a dancer..".

  • Huh? Her beautiful Swedish what?

  • ABBA are truely the best!!

  • Watch Agnetha and Freda get their groove on!

  • nice glittery leotards!

  • who cares ja! the point is that abba is cool. and the good part is that all members of the band are still alive.

  • hehe, you wanna check out the "i'm still alive" video that I uploaded

  • this is originally from the mike yarwood christmas shiow (1978). This was not recorded for top of the pops - they just showed the clip.

It is not live either, ABBA recorded the backing track for this a few days earlier in the UK and this is just lip synched. It is different version to the album version, but not live.

  • Whoa, someone is even more obsessed than I am. I am impressed. ;p The "Mamma Mia" and "Waterloo" performances that I posted are truly live, though!

  • Pretty sure this is live. Wonderful beginning. Love the emotion..

  • If this is live... Damn, thats a rare thing! Thanks to you for this music! <3
