@ieatpeas24 are all you carpenters fans stupid? every video for Thank You For The Music whether it's Abba or Carpenters, you say ABBA ripped it off the Carpenters.
ABBA wrote the song for their album and was sung by Agnetha. Carpenters are the rip off.
@liveandletdie2008 Not ALL us Carpenters fans are stupid (in fact, the Carpenters were big ABBA fans themselves and met them at Starparade. Though they did a live version of TYFTM, they never released the one they recorded because Richard felt he couldn't do a better arrangement than ABBA's). However, the line "I am the girl with golden hair" should've been a dead giveaway this was originally ABBA since Karen was obviously a brunette.

who would have thought a group from sweden would win the eurovision song contest, not the first year they appeared but the second, and go on to become a group that is truly universal and known pretty much everywhere in the world, even after all these years. bravo abba, the first group i ever saw on stage in 1977 and still the best two concerts i have ever seen, the song "thank you for the music" was indeed sung twice in these concerts, the second as the finale with all the performers on stage.
the most kind songs were written by the beatles, abba and by duo elton john-bernie taupin. no other songs can calm me down and help forget troubles. i often find the solutions while listening. thats the power of music! thank you!
No, Agnetha honey, thank you for all the years of incredibly beautiful and original music that has charmed and enchanted us. There will be other groups, but there will never be another ABBA.
In the world of music legends, one that stands above the rest will always be ABBA.

@Lockemeister It was not live. BBC union rules at the time meant that British musicians had to be used so they had people "playing over" the track but used the basic recorded vocals and instruments. It sounds different because there are less overdubs than the original album version which is why many think that it was live. An easy mistake to make.
I agree this is definatley live, I think they are fantastic live, this is a great version, I have just seen the Mama mia on TOTP and that is a great live version also.

It most definitely isn't live. It sounds exactly like the 8 track tape that I listened to over and over again as a kid. At any rate, any live performance would have all instruments on stage. Their live shows have a lot more than just the four of them.
It isn't live. They had to "play over" the backing tape with British musicians, or play some of the instruments live in order to abide by the union rules at the time. The vocals, and principal backing, is on tape though.
Yup!!This is most DEFINITELY live!!It amazes me sometimes when people can't tell, but i'm glad YOUR audio/visual capabilities seem to be working excellently!!Love Maz,X...

I am transfixed as I gaze upon the animated emotional palette projected by Agnetha's heavenly face. Such a palette combined with her glorious voice seduces a weightless euphoria. Mercy!
i don't think so that will be ever music like the music of 80's and the music of abba, it seems that people today they doesn't know how to listen music or they just listen everything they "server" to them, nice that some people still listen music from the past especially 60's and 80's
This is an impressive live performance by ABBA! Yes, it IS live, and Agnetha is doing her best vocal ever live -as well as appearing to be in a splendid condition. Lovely piano by Benny, too! This is December 6th or 7th (1978), and Agnetha and Björn announced their divorce a month later. Looking good despite it all...
It's no denying both women were beautiful, but why should we be comparing who was prettier? Let's keep this about the group, the music and the song. They were awesome for their time and the fact that people are still watching this proves their longevity.
Agnetha was said to be in the top 5 most beautiful women in the world in the seventies, she was the main force in Abba strongest most beautiful voice beautiful looks she had it all, and at 57 in 2007 she is still very beautiful, a new album on the way from Agnetha!!!!
Is not of the japandese television is of the uk special mike yarwood chismas show of 1978. A message for the new Agnatha fans, again: she was and is uggly without cosmetics, frida have 5 years more than Agnetha but always has been more sezy and beautiful.

I Love this song!!! I've been an ABBA fan since high school (about 20 years) and they are still a joy to listen to. I love the white piano too, awesome.
"So I say thank you for the music. The songs I'm singing. Thanks for all the joy they're bringing. Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty, what would life be? Without a song and a dance, what are we?". I love those lyrics so much. They are full of truth, and are exactly how I feel about the best way to live life.
this is originally from the mike yarwood christmas shiow (1978). This was not recorded for top of the pops - they just showed the clip.
It is not live either, ABBA recorded the backing track for this a few days earlier in the UK and this is just lip synched. It is different version to the album version, but not live.
I know it's an ABBA song and they were in fact a very good band, but Karen Carpenter owns it like nobody else... <3

Whoa, someone is even more obsessed than I am. I am impressed. ;p The "Mamma Mia" and "Waterloo" performances that I posted are truly live, though!
