For any other songwriter and artist this would be their biggest and most popular song...for Bruce Springsteen it's just a asong he can throw away or keep in the backburner for 30 years and then release on a compilation album. The man is just the greatest of all time.
in so many years I used YouTube I always avoided to sign up to contribute, but now I felt I really had to!!
This is a clear example on how to destroy a masterpiece from one of the best artists ever by misunderstanding the music and sticking terrible pictures on it!
You did not understand anything about the Boss, please abstain and leave his music to the ones who can appreciate. Listen to Faith Hill or Shania Twain instead if you like that romantic crap. this is much more than that! I will propose the managers to remove this video right away.
I'm sorry, this is a great song that gets destroyed if you look at those ridiculous photos while the song is playing. I have been listening to this song since it was put out on a bootleg album in 1980. A bootleg that I still have and it still has the price sticker on it. $9.99, a princely sum to a senior in high shool in 1980. The record store was in Bryn Mawr, PA. Plastik Fantastik, I think it was called? A cool name for a record store, no?
I know that 'the way' will be a bonus track on disc 1, just like rosalita on the hyde park dvd, this was a 'secret'. now i just hope that 'preacher's daughter' will be issued on disc 2 as a hidden bonus track!!!
The cheap romance-novel clips remind me of jail... This song is so awesome though. Too bad there isn't a live version up on here. BRUUUUCCCCEEE!!!!! Forever!
@gymnosophy .. yes, that is all I claimed my comment to be... MY opinion. I never claimed the song was the Holly Grail. But thank you for clarifying. In fact let me repay the favor, your comment appears to be nothing more than your opinion. glad we straightened that out... life can go on.. me with my opinions and you with your (inferior) opinion.
@foxyoxyyy You asked a question. I answered- tough shit....I doubt bruce would sing this live these days as the song shows imaturity. "you belong to me" any feminist would laugh at that lyric but i guess you are one of those females that wants to be "owned" "wedding song" hahahahhahahha
@gymnosoph Yes.. I want to be owned, every little girl's fantasy. Please be advised that I graduated with a Minor in Feminist Ethics and Gender Studies from U of T (w honors). Also, when I analyze songs (especially Springseen) I do so in depth and do not just take the words at surface value. It seems obvious that he doesn't want to lock her up, it's just symbolism for how much he needs her to feel alive & how he wants to take any pain away from her. I guess I' just a bit of a hopeless romantic
@foxyoxyyy Be advised I graduated in music and english lit so I've analysed few few texts. This song is one dimensional. Springsteen said he had never really wrote a muti dimensional song about relationships until tunnel of Love. I took those words into account when "analysing" this song. I also took your comments of "ultimate wedding song" and "depth and meaning" as well as "only the boss can write and perform"
You say you studied femmisim, that makes your comments even more laughable.
@gymnosophy I think that this has gone on for long enough.. I don't really know what you're trying to prove.. I never said anything about dimensions.. nor am i familiar with Bruce ever having made any such comments. You're barking up the wrong tree. I merely stated that I thought this song was wedding song material and others agreed.. However, I am thrilled that my education in gender studies brings you joy. What university did you study at? lol, must have been community college or state school
@gymnosophy I think i sufficiently justified my opinion to satisfy the feminists I've studied... But if you think otherwise, please feel free to approach any that you may know and ask the for their views. I also have already explained that once you look beyond surface value of words the song isn't offensive to the female gender. Remember? you claimed 'oh you must want to be owned' and I had a witty retort.. then I explained it to in simple terms? But I believe that we are done. It was a pleasure

is this not the ultimate wedding song? It's so romantic.. so much depth and meaning, something only the Boss himself can write and perform. Love it!

@foxyoxyyy that's an opinion, I don't think it has much depth for a springsteen song.

@foxyoxyyy I went to a uni where I learnt that just because you are not aware of certain comments doesn't mean they wern't spoken.
I'd be interested to know what your "feminst ethics" would say to your comment that this would be a great "wedding" song. hahahaha
