@rainerfilm: There's no arguing about the authenticity of Herbert Nitsch's diving or him breathing pure oxygen because he simply won't need it like any serious pro freddiver. Inform yourself before you post comments like that! Btw: Herbert Nitsch is not the only Pro who posts freediving videos on Youtube...
I'm a long time freediver.. wreck diving is fun.. but it takes balls to go diving in a cave (even though i know the camera guy is probably scuba-ing) I went into a small cave in the reef when I was in the Dominican recently and my spear got stuck in a way that blocked my way out. I was underwater for almost 2 and a half minutes (that's not an exaggeration, I carry a timer), close to the BO area, before I got it out.. suffice to say I will think twice now before chasing fish in those places.
How many minutes underwater are we talking about here? I'm guessing this is several videos cut together. I may be wrong as I am not a diver and I wouldn't want to belittle anything that I could never do.
um.. how long was he underwater for?? And damn that tunnel was tight in some places!! Stones for real!! I could tell I'd have be out of breathe not even half way and he's cruising around cool as a cucumber.. And all someone could say was he has poor finning technique.. gimme a break!!
Idd. U r totally right. His technique is amazing; he has the world record in No Limits Free Diving and is one of the best in Constant Weight with Fins aswel as Static Apnea!
Cant stand people judging some1 who's one of the best in the world in free diving. Give this perfomance some credit guys!
he would have been much better off using a good pair of stereo fins which would enable him better movement. i know monofins give better efficiency but only wen u hold good technique while doing dynamics or cwt and even then its only marginal.
herbert is out of this world guys, he broke the no limits record last month going down to 214m! (700 feet for you on the other side of the atlantic) that dive was 4 and a half minutes long, so i don't think he would have any problem pulling something like this off, he has done a static apnea of 9 mins 4secs i think!
You don't need gills. And he can hold it he went 111m down on just one breath. Everyone should stop saying that you can go that deep or the long w/o air because you can. It has been done for centuries.
It has been done for centuries to depths of 30m at best, if that. In '76 the record was 100m and that was deemed the limit. As a non-diver, you can't realize just how much pressure it is even at 20m, not to mention the darkness and the cold.
well, no matter how long you can hold your breath i think going in a cave without a line is a bad idea. i don't do it with 3 tanks... so why would he do it with none? does he have a death wish?
When he goes into the wreck he only has a weghtbelt, when he starts in the basin of the cav dive he has no belt. Once we get inside the cave, you will notice the editing is such that we never rarely see his waist again. Shots are cut before he swims completely into shot and he is almost always shown from one side, but at 1:40 and 2:20 you can clearly see the belt is wearing the belt again and a small air tank called a 'pony bottle' strapped to his waist.
dude, you are dumb. Herbert is the world champ in freediving disciplines, he dives last December to 111m depth, to have an idea. Holding breath for 3-4 minutes is a walk in the park for this guy.

@rainerfilm He would convulse and drown if he went to anything near that depth on 100% O2

Holding your breath for 3 or 4 minutes is one thing, but doing it at 60ft down is another..
If that dude really held his breath for 4.5 minutes at that depth he's gotta have gills
