No- not good for passenger cars. They weren't loud, but you couldsee the heat coming off the back of them, and the other drivers complained of that too.
I have never cared much for indy car racing after they banned the turbines. If they had been allowed to continue racing them, we would probably all be driving cars with turbines in them today. After all, isn't racing supposed to be the proving ground for automotive products? We are still using reciprocating engines much like the Model "T" Ford used.
