    Joe

    Ronan

  • Bit of an irony with Bertie and his boom era jokes about Taoiseach's salary and house prices. But I love John McGahern, a truly great and simple man, a first class writer. Mohill must be proud. The marketing manager of the hotel has a lovely voice, accent and manner. I can see how she would win people over to her project. Lovely film.

  • @zzheavensdoor

Many thanks for watching. If you like McGahern you might be interested in another film I made on him called 'Three Days In Summer' which is on my channel. Thanks again or your kind comments.

    RonanG

  • Does anyone seriously believe that the (then) Taoiseach Bertie (sic) Ahern even *knew* who John McGahern was, let alone read him?

At least John would appreciate the irony.

  • Good point. If Mr McGahern was a banker or developer then he might have been known to him.

  • Most interesting Ronan. Very well put together

  • Thanks Caren. The lake you saw is about two minutes from my house. The lands around me here is quite beautiful, something I thankfully can appreciate every day.

    Ronan

  • If the house next door becomes vacant, give us a shout.

  • There are houses available to rent here. In fact you can get deals at the hotel featured in the film for as little as 100 euro per room per night. Beautiful place, worth checking out.

    RonanG

  • Now that would be a first. Ladies and gentlemen we are proud to announce the worlds most advanced computer. 'The Bobbie'. Still it has a hell of a better ring to it than the 'Ronan'

    Ronan

  • cool man Ronan i'm a total bibliophile and love libraries and this was great. the landscape pictures were beautiful, as is the castle. and mr. ahern was very eloquent and charming. thanks for sending it. i'll have to check out some of McGahern's books. i love irish literature. MB

  • Thanks Mike. Glad you liked it. It was all filmed within a five minute walk from my house here in Leitrim. It is a small though beautiful library in a wonderful setting which I am privileged to live in. Am editing another film on McGahern which is a little more in depth being more on the man and his writing. Hope to post that before Santa begins his big day out!

    Ronan

  • Good one Ronan.

  • Thanks Justin. Glad you liked it. Am editing another film on McGahern at the moment. A bit more in depth look at him and his relationship with the people of Leitrim where he lived. Should be ready in a few weeks time.

    Ronan.

PS Don't forget to spread the word

  • Thank you Ronan for making this work.

The calm narrative style of this short film fits well with its content.

We can look forward to some quiet sanctuary time in McGaherns library.

    All the best.

  • Thank you ladies. The library is truly in a wonderful setting. I should know I live about five minutes walk from it. Leitrim. Ireland's best kept secret.
