@hunthorserider11 Dressage riders use their legs and calves to silently tell the horse what to tell the horse what to do. The heels go up to tell the horse to bend or change directions. You'll see it in many dressage videos.
I have a really gumby ex-racer tb and everyone used to comment on how dumb he was until I started training him for dressage, he was ridiculously intelligent and it got him out of his bolting habbit :D Gotta love horses
Personally I like dressage, never really done any but the horses always seem to be happy with it. They strike me as very smart animals, I geuss they'd have to be to learn all those moves so I have no doubt they would enjoy it as it is something that is both mentally and physically stimulating. I have ridden only one dressage horse in my life and it was amazing how in tune he was to what I wanted to do, they respond correctly to the tiniest signals.
@DexterChester :) I used to work in Holland as a rider in one grand prix stable, now i'm working in Spain back on show-jumpers but I'm not jumping much, because I love doing flatwork better. and I'm still training grand-prix horses. I can do it, don't you worry about me
correct schooling is actually better for the horse then letting it plod around on the lanes. dont get me wrong, lots of schooling can be done on the road and it is only correct work that works the proper muscles in the neck and back to make the horse stronger.
Its not is it LOL whoever said that obviously doesnt understand what dressage is or how its a team effort I have learned over the years that if a horse doesnt want to do soething - nothing on this earth will make him do it - If you watch the horse's tail, see the way it swings, - that shows the horse is perfectly balanced, and happy, the contactis right, the balance is right, the arch of the neck - the horse does that naturally when HE takes up the contact - its a comfortable position for him
Wow

@hunthorserider11 It's not quite as important in dressage as in jumping.

Dressage horses are happy with dressage. If they aren't happy with it they would show it. SO LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!
