hmmm...would di stefano, corelli or any other contemporary have appeared on stage with mario lanza? the answer is NO!! it kills me that pavarotti validated this guy by appearing on stage with him.
@cheng269 because i listened to him sing. I have nothing against Bocelli, if anything I like it when someone can bring opera to a wider audience. But Bocelli's voice is so weak. Have you heard his recently released Andrea Chenier (2010)? He can get through the role of Chenier, but he's no close to Pavarotti , Domingo, or Carreras. You really think Bocelli has the voice comparable (not same) but comparable to those of the high quality tenors? (Domingo, Caruso, Pavarotti?)
@dalecampbl6 each person does something different, it's good that he doesnt have the same voice, otherwise people would just get bored of everyone with the same voices singing the same songs. His voice may not be as loud as others, however his voice is better than most and he can hold a note for very very very long, Yes some can do that but not like him. Sure he's not like the three tenors, and thats what makes him special. He's perfect just the way he is, i'm proud of his voice
@cheng269 he doesn't have that TONE. Just listen to him!!! He doesn't have the operatic tone, at least not for a tenor. He's better than most, sure, but he's not in that special place reserved for true tenors. Bocelli has a decent voice, of course, but he's not a true tenor. I want to see him reach the high C's because I doubt he can do it. He's not in the same league...he's in the minor leagues while Caruso, Domingo, Carreras, Pavarotti are in the major leagues. That's a fact.
@cheng269 well Bocelli has a huge fan following that's for sure, but i think for those with more refined tastes, they should be able to hear the difference between a Caruso, Domingo or Carreras from a Bocelli
@dalecampbl6 im sure they will hear the difference, all thoses singers can be heard shouting ontop of there voice, while bocelli beautiful voice is just perfect
@cheng269 but tenor shouting and our shouting is different. When Pavarotti sings an aria from the Opera Andrea Chenier, that's projection, power, strength, and most importantly, a beautiful unique tone. Same with Domingo and Carreras...although Carreras is the weakest of the 3. But they all have that ability to sing high notes and that's why they are famous. I'm curious about your tastes...do you listen to opera?
@cheng269 look my friend, i suggest you listen to some real operas with the three tenors, or recording of other tenors like Franco Corelli, Enrico Caruso, or Richard Tucker, just to name a few before you take such a silly position. In fact, Bocelli recorded the entire opera, Andrea Chenier, last year on 2 CD set...give it a listen, then listen to how Pavarotti and Domingo sing that oprea.
@dalecampbl6 well for singers i reallly like andrea, mario lanza, and i really like pavarotti. As for songs my favorite is either Ave maria or nessum dorma
@dalecampbl6 Even if i agree about the opera skills of both, what does really mean being in "major league" for you, the same for minor league? and may I ask, are you a major league opera critic, such an expert, or are you a minor league critic? and I repeat, I agree with almost that you said to cheng. Regards.
@deepakkamuz I'm not trained to be an expert critic, but I have listened to so much opera and that style of singing that I know the best from the rest.
@dalecampbl6 I have watched thousands of films, but that doesnt make me a film critic. I know ppl who have ran a lot, but they are not athletes... In the other hand, and according to your response, Andrea Bocelli has sang plenty of songs and ópera from the best composers, and with the company of the best singers in that field, then..... (you can complete the rest of the idea). Regards.
@dalecampbl6 I think you're also validating more mediocrity here, bro. Clearly, the best operas are from the bel canto repertoire. Try some Cenerentola, Lucia, Lucrezia, or Guillaume Tell. JDF singing Rossini and Donizetti heals my fucking soul. Yum yum.
@cheng269 but if u love him for his "diffferences" that's fine...I don't care. But I do think we need to take an objective analysis of something like vocal tone quality to identify what is true operatic tenor tone and range. To argue because he's different and thus just as good is insane. The 3 tenors sound different from each other but they all meet the minimum requirements of tone and range to be in that upper echelon.
(Domingo, Caruso, Pavarotti?)
i dont like opera much becouse of their technique they sound like a goats, no beauty of a alife human voice, but i do like Bocelli a lot? becouse his sining with his soul, not diaphragm, and i don't have the filling that his belly butn is going to untie.
@y7mmaS el italiano podíamos entenderlo un poco, por las similitudes con el español pero cuando comienzan a traducir al alemán ya no se entiende ni uno ni otro xD

I've recently travelled through europe and I'll never understand dubbing. It takes away the fun of hearing your favourite artist/actors voice and if can't speak the dubbed language you're fucked. I live in Sweden where everything is subtitled, everybody wins.
Geez some of these people are jerks. I think he has a wonderful voice, it's very soothing and powerful at the same time. I've been in choirs and theater for years and I still couldn't sing like that.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh come on.. can any of you say that 317 is and example of great? He is a joke. He is a freak because he is blind and has somewhat of a "voice". People look beyond the sound becasue of his handicap. Close you eyes and listen to 348.. it is TERRIBLE!!
yes.. so much for your ears.. even one of the most famous opera houses in the world, after contract, had to fire him before he even performed. One he coudn't do it and second he couldn't be heard past the second row. People like you are destroying the opera profession thinking this is opera. Sure he has a good voice for song but lets not confuse the issue here. With out a mic and mixing, he is not good!
"SteppingOnyou" -you already have an aggressive username , and it shows . If you really understood the words Luciano said about Bocelli , you'd have no doubt he sincerely considered Andrea a great tenor . Bocelli is one of the very few singers today who totally deserves fame and success . With all the overpaid crap that we listen to every day , you dare attacking Andrea , who's one of the greatest singers that ever walked the earth ? I have no words to describe this sort of stupidity .
Because Pavarotti WAS A SINGER, and Bocelli a complete deception. And Pav's endorsement is worth millions of dollars, just see how this idiot has become rich by singing horribly, without style, without feeling. So, if you listen, Pav says clearly that he received a song demo from Zucchero with Bocelli's ass-voice, and told him that his voice was ok for the song. So, he was invited and introduced by Pav, the greatest tenor in recent years.
me gusto mucho

@maxiborgaro Per diverse ragioni:

power vs subtleness but both natural. both brill. To try and say who is best removes the joy of listening.
Jesterartaud 2 years ago 59
@Jesterartaud fine line between subtle and can't project. pavarotti could cover his projection softly, but bocelli simply shows his limitations

I've recently travelled through europe and I'll never understand dubbing. It takes away the fun of hearing your favourite artist/actors voice and if can't speak the dubbed language you're fucked. I live in Sweden where everything is subtitled, everybody wins.
Bocelli actually pulled it off nicely.

i hate dubbing as well

Geez some of these people are jerks. I think he has a wonderful voice, it's very soothing and powerful at the same time. I've been in choirs and theater for years and I still couldn't sing like that.

i cannot get over how amazinf this is. "Where you are not, sunlight is missing;

how young was Andrea Bocelli in this video? Wow! So cool to get an endorsement from the great Pavarotti himself.
eyestrained07 3 years ago
He was born in 1958 so this makes him 35 or 36, depending when it was recorded.

Oh come on.. can any of you say that 317 is and example of great? He is a joke. He is a freak because he is blind and has somewhat of a "voice". People look beyond the sound becasue of his handicap. Close you eyes and listen to 348.. it is TERRIBLE!!

sounded alright to me. you are clearly a twat.
chunga666 3 years ago
yes.. so much for your ears.. even one of the most famous opera houses in the world, after contract, had to fire him before he even performed. One he coudn't do it and second he couldn't be heard past the second row. People like you are destroying the opera profession thinking this is opera. Sure he has a good voice for song but lets not confuse the issue here. With out a mic and mixing, he is not good!
operawhore64 3 years ago
and is there anything you could do about it
pc4c 3 years ago
He was extremely nervous as it was a great honour for him to be there, so yes, there are places where he doesn't sound so great.
Never heard Pavarotti crack ?
Was Corelli always perfect ?
If you don't like Bocelli, fine, but do not call him a freak.
carolina1954 3 years ago
"SteppingOnyou" -you already have an aggressive username , and it shows . If you really understood the words Luciano said about Bocelli , you'd have no doubt he sincerely considered Andrea a great tenor . Bocelli is one of the very few singers today who totally deserves fame and success . With all the overpaid crap that we listen to every day , you dare attacking Andrea , who's one of the greatest singers that ever walked the earth ? I have no words to describe this sort of stupidity .
87redsilver 3 years ago 5
I know Pavarotti was magnificent, but I think Bocelli is also great and Pavarotti's assessment of him was much more glowing than you say.
delise54 3 years ago 2
Bocelli is great, but how can the video be called "Bocelli and Pavarotti" when, Pavarotti does not sing? Weird
jimquantic 3 years ago
Because Pavarotti WAS A SINGER, and Bocelli a complete deception. And Pav's endorsement is worth millions of dollars, just see how this idiot has become rich by singing horribly, without style, without feeling. So, if you listen, Pav says clearly that he received a song demo from Zucchero with Bocelli's ass-voice, and told him that his voice was ok for the song. So, he was invited and introduced by Pav, the greatest tenor in recent years.
