  • I wish I could pull a battery out of my wife's back every time I wanted her to shut her trap. Then when it's time to eat, I could pop it back in and she'd make me a sandwich. Just kidding, I'm not married. I live alone and cry myself to sleep most nights...

  • @cockad00dle you just made me spit coke zero out of my nose, awesome!!! lol

  • @cockad00dle You are my hero.

  • @cockad00dle At least you cry yourself to sleep with money in your bank account. If you got married, you would be crying yourself to sleep over alimony payments.

  • their backs looks gross with the battery pack ahahahha

My mom hated this. I can understand now.

  • anyone seen that new toyota one...that shit is hideous ALso.

  • *facepalm* I actually remember this commercial...

  • @blackwingangel04

Ditto here. And I absolutely _never_ understood why people were supposed to want to buy Duracells after watching this.

  • I remember this set of commercials, always thought the people looked freaky

  • @animehunter23 hmhm lol

  • what?

  • LOL I remember this one.

  • I hated those commercials then, and over a decade later, my hate has only grown.

  • Press 4 for death

  • Make it stop

  • Creepy.

  • This video must be set in the future, when Botox injections go way too far.

  • Some museum, the art pieces were plastic.

  • The father looks just like Fred Gwynne. Kinda creepy.

  • Even as an adult this shit is scary, just like Pennywise the clown from "IT" LOL

  • the ending scared me the most lol

  • what is this i dont even...

  • dude! anybody who was through the ages of 4-9 were scared as shit by these commercials....I don't remember how long they lasted, but they were quite big because of their...unique style. I even remember you could buy the cheap Halloween costumes at the time...bastards are cool from a distance now... as long as they aren't staring at me when I wake up in the middle of the night.

  • sooooooooo weird im gonna nightmares!!!!

  • I remember these guys!

  • Uh, okay..............so is this commercial supposed to make you want to buy Duracell batteries?

  • fake

  • iouuuuuuuuuuu :((((((((

  • I remember these ads; they were so weird!

  • Oh GOD. I WAS SEARCHING FOR THIS.

These commercials were the worst, man. They made you YEARN for that goddamn pink bunny.

  • didn't these characters come from a music video. i could have sworn it was a Living Colour video, but can't find anything about it.

  • Comment removed

  • creepy lol

  • bioshock

  • terrifying.

  • Weird, but you gotta admit, the make-up is pretty cool

  • Hey, it's so weird, I remember this commercial, but forgot what happens in it. I didn't really think it was creepy then, but now I sorta do

  • ...Then the family went on to star in the music video for Primus's "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver". And they all lived happily ever after, creeping out average citizens and devouring live puppies. The End.

  • @packermanny

guess i should have looked att his 1st, but i still think there was something before the battery where these characters came out in..

  • Someone at Duracell's ad division must like Primus. That, and scaring customers.

  • what year was that?

  • So, he just died and they make jokes about?

  • Hahahaa, my dad was so freaked out by these ads that he wrote a letter to Duracell in the 90s.

  • I'll never forget the first time I ever saw this. I was a freshman at WVU (1994-1995), and I was watching a Pittsburgh Steelers game when this commercial came on during the break. Later that evening, I asked my friend Josh if he had slipped some LSD into the can of Pepsi I was drinking during said game (lol). Positively freaky... :-S

  • OH MAN!!! I remember these commercials!

  • if this was 4real, then half of the world would be dead because they dont use duracell...

  • These guys must be joking with plastic people with batteries to live on don't worry I've seen worst during my childhood, but it can have you laughing out loud.

  • Oh my gosh, I remember this when I was little!

  • anyone that uses duracell is a nazi robot slave to them

  • Oh, i hated these commercials when they came out. Too weird.

  • SHES NOT A CHRISTIAN

  • @TetrisLock LOL!!!

  • @TetrisLock What does that have to do with anything? Wait, how do you even know?

  • @Superwolf1337 Refferencing to the woman at the end.

  • @TetrisLock Oh the one that spit out that "Internet lurker" thing? How do you know?

  • @Superwolf1337 Search "She's not a christian" here on youtube.

  • @TetrisLock Ohh hahahahahahaha I see now

  • the thing at the very end scared me more.

  • WHAT THE HELLLL

  • lol

  • These ads were directed by Barry Sonnenfeld of Men In Black and The Addams Family fame.

  • @acceptthis01 Great info, I will add it to the tags.

  • @acceptthis01

    Thats why they sucked.

  • ahahah that this right at the end made me laugh

  • The god warrior. lol

  • I remember theese commercials. Gosh, they had so many of them.

  • Even a music video with Primus!

  • @MrPisster

Were they really in a Primus video? Good lord.

  • wynona's big brown beaver!

    watch?v=aYDfwUJzYQg

  • I was the daughter i these commercials! These were SO fun to do.... except fot the HOURS of makeup!

Makeup and costumes were done by Steve Johnso's XFX.

  • creepy lol!

  • This is what happens when you visit the museum after using superglue in an unventilated studio.

  • max headrome anyone that plastic look was totally eighties

  • Dang, I wanted to learn more about early dadaism!

  • The kid reminds me of Bart Simpson for some reason.

  • The kid is blatantly a rubber ripoff of Bart Simpson

  • Yeah. The prosthetics must have caused a monster case of contact dermatitis..... !!!

  • & " Daddy " looks like a plastic / rubber version of Fred Gwynne / Herman Munster with a blond " wig ".

  • i think the dad looked like john kerry.

  • maybe John Kerry mixed with Fred Gwynne & Maury Povitch..... !!

One character in another Duracell commercial looked like Jerry Orbach /

    " Lenny Briscoe " from " Law & Order ".

  • I thought he looked like arnie who melted a little.

  • It was played by a girl named Debi Derryberry... she does cortoon voices.

  • The name DOES sound somewhat familiar. Wonder if she does dub voices for anime, too ?

I watch some anime, the shows that AREN'T confusing..... ;-)

Really, you were the daughter in those commercials ? How was the make - up / prosthetics ? Can't imagine sitting still for that long..... REALLY.

  • Yes... it was an experience! Sometimes it took over 4 hours to complete the makeup alone... I would fall asleep in the chair! They made our faces shiny by using KY jelly...

The clothes were made from actual foam and plastic, We couldn' sit down!

But SO much fun! I would do it again in a heatbeat ;)

  • Holy cow !! & you made a career out of this, rather than, say, appearances on

    " Frasier ", " House, M.D. ", " Bones ", " Seinfeld " & such.

I would guess that the pay must be worth the potential discomfort.

Did you work under prosthetics on anything else ? Just curious.

  • Nothing I have done since has had prosthetics like this... but these commercials lasted for 3 years!

But I do love to "Disguise" myself in photo shoots with photographers and artists... I don't think I have ever looked "normal" since ;)

  • If they ever remake the series " ALIEN NATION ", GO FOR IT !!! ( Just some advice..... )

You might be a great Susan Francisco or Kathy Frankl, if you remember the series & characters. NOW THAT was one of my favorites, & the only makeup was a skinhead " wig " / headpiece w / spots.

  • I just had to say hey to you because I'm from Knoxville too. Horray for craptacular Knoxville.

  • @drmoonrat

Thanks !! Out here where I'm living now, Knoxville seems like NYC or Chicago. Hello from Mayberry's " clone " !!

  • @ Knoxvilleguy2

You must live somewhere rather desolate for Knoxville to seem like NYC

  • @drmoonrat

Well, ok, not THAT small as such, but the cultural & night life leaves a lot to be desired, 45 - something miles from Nashville. Think " Mayberry ".

  • omg i remember this commercial

  • THE MUSEUM CAN BE FUN!

  • These same style of costumes were used in a primus video... O.O

  • creepy?Its not!

  • lol. reminds me of the music video for wynona's big brown beaver. great song.

  • The kid at the end gave me nightmares

  • the puttermans look like something that would be on liquid television

  • that's creepy

  • look like they fried the whole family

  • Dude...Primus...hmm

  • Herb, the father (Keith Langsdale)

Flo, his wife, the mother (Marla Frees)

    Son Zack (Debi Derryberry)

Daughter Trish (Krystee Clark) and (Constance Zimmer)

  • Thanks very much. I added them to the keywords

  • yea Marla Frees was an actress for years and then became a psychic/medium, wow

  • debi derryberry also does jimmy neutron... lol

  • @OMGLAME13

Debi Derryberry is known for her work as a voice artist. She's the voice of Jimmy Neutron!

  • Wynona's big brown beaver

  • The family was called The Puttermans. They were plastic robots powered by Duracell batteries. This was done as Duracell's reaction to the Energizer bunny.

  • And don't forget the obvious Energizer-looking "other battery" as a response to Energizer's "Supervolt" commercials.

  • MVillani1985:

The Duracell Bunny ads also pound the ever loving Hell of Eveready batteries and there's an Energizer ad where the ears of the Duracell bunny are visible... I'm also fairly sure Eveready ran an ad using one of the Eveready Bunnies from the Duracell Bunny ads...

It's actually getting rather strange at this point... Do the words "copyright infringement" mean nothing to these marketing teams?

  • lol the cop in the background runs away

  • PRIMUS!!!

  • what year was the one with the grandma

  • I think this is more cool than creepy.

  • damn man that brings back the memories i never understood the point of these commercials growing up...

  • Those commercials used to creep me out

  • I remember these creepy ass ads... wow

  • :10 fatass bastard child

  • haha is that lady at the end the one that says, "SHE'S NOT A CHRISTIAN... SHE'S SO DARKSIDED!!!!!"

  • GARGOLS! hahahaha

  • "your right mom the muesuem can be fun!"

    How lame...

  • they all look like.... idk, but this comercial is indeed creepy...

  • Yeah... that creepiness you can't quite put your finger on is called The Uncanny Valley. Basically, when robots and other facsimiles of humans look and act almost like actual humans, it causes a response of revulsion among human observers.

  • @ttmab7 It's amazing that there is a name for something like this.

  • @ttmab7 I tend to associate uncanny valley exclusively with cg representations of humans, but you're absolutely right. This is both amusing and disturbing. Not scary, but definitely unsettling. Thanks for putting it in to words!

  • @ttmab7 Wow. That actually makes a lot of sense. When I was a kid my family took me to a wax museum, and I was scared of all the wax figures, expecially one of sleeping beauty that was BREATHING.

  • @gracehi88 Breathing? Eek! O_o

  • @ttmab7 Basically, (wikipedia copy/paste).

  • They Used Actor Fred Gwynn's (May He Rest In Peace) Face For The Dad

  • it looks like those weird ppl from spykids

  • Arnol Shwuasheneger!
