Try It - The Standells [Los Angeles, California] - 1967 - "Good first impression on this Garage Punker. AMG Pick. A MySpace friend turned me onto this song. THANKS. The Attack [London, England] did an equally good version the same year." - The Hot Ones!/Try It [import] (Big Beat Records UK)-1993.
It was banned for its "suggestive sexual nature". Some said "Try It" meant "try marijuana or LSD"-- I don't hear that at all, but then those were the days when "Puff the Magic Dragon" was ridiculously interpreted as a drug song and the Gavin Report killed "Eight Miles High"'s chart run for the same wrongheaded reasoning.. Granted, Ed Cobb, who wrote this song was no dumb bunny, but it's just your basic manly come-on made by a guy who believes his aura is irresistible to the gal he's pursuing.
Strong punchy sound. You just can't go wrong with a pair of pinstripes and a pudding bowl haircut.
