I had this game out and I was telling my friend how awesome it is since he didn't know what the hell Final Fantasy was... Well, I saved it just before this part and went to go see the scene and after, he looked at me and said "The fuck kind of games do you play?"
Freya's the first final fantasy character I'd want watching my back in a fight. She's not ridiculously overpowered like Cloud, not as sullen as Leon, but hey she can dance and fight... wait, Leon can dance and cloud can... crap....
If you can get pass the pink monkey destroy mode and his thong wearing evil half brother, FF9 is actually a fairly enjoyable game. It was a nice breath of fresh air when the 'classic' medieval fantasy world gets reintroduced in FF. I remembered I was thoroughly impressed with the city/town designs when i first played. Freya is one of my favourite FF character.
This scene is awesome ! I mean, I don't remember other dancing scenes with those kind of graphics. Sure, it would be better with full CG... but come on...
I loved this scene, but it always makes me depressed when I think about what happened to poor Cleyra! XD Anyhow, thanks for uploading, I 'ppreciate it! :D :D
You're right :) My mate shouted on TeamSpeak in the real video, and the sound wasn't very clear either, so I put the song from the OST on the video. It was a little bit slower, so I had to slow down the video to match it up :)
PlayStation games only have one graphic settings, don't they? :)
If you mean the corny edges, I suppose it's because it was recorded at 1024x768 (a normal tv is 800x600) and it's downscaled as well to youtube sizes :) I guess that makes the graphics 'prettier'
But yes, I must agree that the ending fights were not what it was worked up for. However, it did tie up loose ends very well.
Oh, did I forget about Zidane?
His awesome and adorable dedication to friends is just like Vivi's quest. He never forgets about them, e.g. loyal.
In short, the whole game was just more easier to sink into, with interesting characters, a touching storyline - with emotional moments - and some very well pulled off graphics *for this game*.
I am really amazed at the length of your comment. Also, I do appreciate other people's opinions, and the person(s) who vote - on your comments are probably just VII fanboys :P (Sorry ^^)
Yet, I still can't decide which FF game I like best, VII or IX.
It's true what you're saying, IX goes deeper in on a philosophical (spelling?) storyline.
To me, FF brings new storyline, characters, spells, abilites, changes in gameplay, each game.
Main characters unlikeable? What the hell? Vivi was probably the most likeable Black Mage ever to appear in Final Fantasy. When I said 'deep' I meant that the game actually went into the whole 'what is it like to live' kind of thing - something Vivi was wondering all his life and the rest of the main characters helped him answer. With VII all you had was a bunch of people chasing after Sephiroth. No emotion at all.
The graphics in IX were meant to be cartoony, as a departure from the futuristic realism of VII/VIII and a nice return to the 'medieval' type fantasies fought with swords and lances, not huge clumsy Buster Swords and Gunblades.
The cardboard characters were not great, admittedly, but IMO it just gave the game that kind of 'fantasy' look. It's a tad hard to pull it off with the 3D models for VII, since, after all, the developers aimed for that more... childish... look.
IX's story was not weak. It was actually really well told, compared to VII's, which tended to jump all over the place. It went from present... to a few years ago... to present... to 2000 years ago. It's hard to keep track of everything that goes on in VII because you kind of drowned on the first disc. Then it's the 2nd disc and you start liking it. Lost that on the 3rd disc, and what's the ending? Sephiroth doesn't do anything worth it at the end of countless hours gathering materia.
NO! Don't show me this vid! It'll make me wanna go play it again. And i've beaten it 5 times already! Nooo Nooo...I won't ...*Pops FF9 disc one in ps2* ( My fav FF ever)
This game is amazing. =) I liked it so much more than any of the other games, but they were all truly wonderful games. (I've played 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10) This one holds a special place in my heart, however. It was the first game (other than Zelda: OoT) that actually made me cry.

FF7 was great, 8 was terrible 9 was acceptable.
I know Zidane and I know this melody.
FF9 was not that great because of the poor storyline and cardboard characters, considering that most of the storyline revolves around Zidane trying to laid... as opposed to Cloud or for example, Ramza, actually DOING something.
FF9 was respectable, better than the previous, but definitely not one of the better FF;s.
What are you talking about. Nine had absolutely nothing to do with Zidane trying to get laid. You're a disgrace to any Final Fantasy fan. If you haven't noticed, they're made by the same company. It's not about 'which game is better.' They're all great games. No need to compete. And get your head out of your ass and actually play this game. It's about self-acknowledgment and learning to figure out who one is more than anything else.
VI I have no problem with. But VII was just disappointing in the face of all the bloated praising.
The whole cast of VII was just bad. You had no idea where your allies came from. Then BOOM, Aerith jumps into your face. BOOM, Sephiroth comes along and conspires to send a Meteor along. It's almost impossible to figure the Cloud's past first time around - you have someone called Zack and that took the whole of Crisis Core to explain. And even then there are blanks you have to fill up yourself.
@Kyrelu i think people just kinda love 7 because it was the first 3d one. which i dont understand. its really hard for me to comprehend whats so great about that one. i stopped playing somewhere at cd 1 because it was so utterly unpleasant so i cant tell lol
ROFL! You say Cardboard characters and you think FF7 was great? Cloud was like a puppet, KILL KILL LOL I HAS POWER KILL. And the other characters just made it worse.
FF7 is good, but the only reason it's 'legendary' is because it's overrated. Then Square decided to make a movie...and another game..or two...but in all honesty, I say the FF9 story line was richer. FF7 was just a extended version of 'I must kill (person)' in which this case is Sephiroth. The only part where the goal ISN'T to kill Sephy is in the intro area...FF9, you have no idea who the final boss would be unless you already played or read a guide or something.

You realize that "NOT" showing the end boss is a huge and classic RPG mistake.
It is frowned upon by educated and experienced RPG gamers ever since Kefka took the world by storm with his extremely charismatic behavior... well to most people.
Kuja was a pretty terrible character, I didn't know he was a man until past the middle of the game. He had barely any screen time and no motivation other than "Just because".
FF9 was alright , WAY better than 8, but still nowhere near as 7 or 6.
Kuja is way better than Sephiroth! He was a way better villain. He destroyed a whole freaking world just because he was going to die. And, Zidane is a way better hero. He has character, he laughs, he plays around, but he also has hard moments. Cloud is just an emo guy with a really spiky blond hair-do and a bigass sword.
I wonder if the people arguing in favor of FF9 have played other RPGs let alone final fantasy.
Anyway, Zidane's motivation for most of the game was basically "I want to get laid"which is fine in RL,except, you're in a fantasy world and you are supposed to be some kind of hero.
Kuja was not a good villain, look up any greatest villains ever list, you'll never find Kuja.
1- He looked like a girl
2- He had too little screentime
3- He was never really established as a badass/hyper evil character

Actually 8 was a major failure for the FF franchise.
Only the EXTREMELY young people who didn't play previous final fantasy games and other RPG's can't see the very low quality that FF8 has.
FF9 was an improvement, but again, it's really nowhere near as good as FF7 or FF3 or FF tactics. It was, adequate.

Arkfeller 3 years ago 2
And about your comment down there about Kuja...
1. Who cares if he looked like a girl? Do all villains have to look the same?
2. As long as we know where he came from, and what he's after, that's good.
3. Too much Sephiroth in that. This is where IX's story really gets to you. It's more complicated and deeper than VII's or VIII's.
Arkfeller 3 years ago

Complicated and deeper? it was pointless.
The supporting cast, with the possible exception of Freya, were EXTREMELY weak, the main characters were very unlikeable and the plot was a mess.
Yes, the game was an improvement over the abysmal FF8, BUT, it was nowhere near the quality of 6 or 7.
I blame the cartoony graphics, cardboard characters, weak storyline and terrible ending fights.

wow thanks for making this video. I didn't know that this was the part in FFIX where the song was played.

I love this, the music in this game is excellent.
It amazes me how excellently they can conduct songs...

I totally have to agree with you. Some of the Final Fantasy games give me goosebumps everytime I hear one of the songs... This is one of them :D

I know, right?
-sigh-
It's depressing though, an excellent game like Final Fantasy IX is always pushed aside.
Everyone knows Cloud and Squall because they're the hot anti-social super buff guys, so few people know about Zidane...

I liked FFVII, but not as much as FFIX. Never got to play FFVIII though, don't know why...
I so want to try out FFX, XII and XIII. Can't be bothered to buy a PS2/3 to be honest :(
