Wow what clowns get a job you stupid cocksucking morons as a tax payer i rather see my own countrymen compete for gold instead of giving it to these ppl they will spend it on drugs and not better themself lol fucking yuppies go tie off to a tree. A threat to these games? lol i did not notice anything lol fucking losers fuck green ppl more arrogant and ignorant ppl on this planet it's a bloody shame we still have ppl like this its 2010. good job vancouver with the games im proud of u guys. :)
First of all, people are saying that they should just be handed money. The point is that there needs to be more funding for housing and social services that will aid people who are in poverty. It's pretty sad that you can't seem to see that.
People are dieing due to cutbacks in healthcare, education, and a complete absence of government-provided housing. This, I believe, should be the main message of the protest.
As a Vancouver tax payer I would much rather spend my money on hosting the Olympics then on drug addicts whom I already spend so much money on. Most of them payed no income tax and therefore the Olympics took nothing from them in the first place. They should say thanks for paying for the Olympics, sorry I couldn't contribute.
I live in Vancouver and have an easy life. What I did was saved my money so I could go to BCIT for a couple years. Now I have a good paying job and I choose not to do drugs. It worked great for me you guys should give it a try. The only bad part is you have to support the bums that aren't willing to do this but thats a small price to pay.
My point is my upbringing was shit but now I live an easy because I make good choices. In contrast most of them chose to not educate themselves, not get a good job, and do drugs.
That's good that you made better better choices for yourself. You have to realize though that there are different circumstances that lead people to these sorts of things. The government should provide more social services and housing, which is something that is lacking.
That is great that you overcame the difficulties in your upbringing. You need to keep in mind though that there are many situations which impede a person's ability to find success. We also can't assume that all homeless people are drug addicts. Some may have had jobs, but were laid off due to the recession, which has contributed to an increase in homelessness. There are just so many reasons, so it isn't fair to say that they are just lazy and useless.
@dmteply I agree there are legitimate reasons for their homelessness. I disagree that they are deserve my money because I've been in their shoes. I've been homeless because I had no money just like them. I worked full time while sleeping in a tent and eventually saved up enough for a car to sleep in. Throughout my homelessness I made it a priority to be self sufficient because I feel shameful taking from others. These people don't feel that shame.
Again, like I said previously I don't think the point is to just hand them money, but to increase social services and housing so that they have more support. You sound like a strong person who was able to rise above your circumstance, which is wonderful. However, I don't think we can blame all of the ones who can't. With the recession nowadays for instance, its difficult for even university educated people to find a job. I can't imagine how much harder it would be for someone who is homeless.
how unfortunate that the reprobate drug addicts who already take so much from our social safety net system, expect that the world owes them something, you all belong in jail then you wouldn't be able to call yourselves homeless. if I truly had to I would be like the majority of you people and collect welfare, the only difference is i wouldn't spend all my money on drugs and nose rings. The world doesn't owe you anything!
Wow, you're really ignorant. First off, not all of the homeless are drug addicts; many are mentally ill. And even for those that are drug addicts, there are reasons why they end up this way. I know you probably think people are making excuses for them, but you don't know the kind of life they've lived. They deserve some help, and that is why more money should be funded for drug rehabilitation programs, not mention many other social services.
WHAT!? I can't hear you guys over the 14 gold medals!!!

dmteply,
They do not "deserve" help, they need it.

@ronmann606 & helgabungerbutt:
What are you people talking about???
The point (one of) of these protests is that Olympics cost too much money which could be spend for undoubtedly better purposes.
It is also very important that the games are taking place on the land usurped of the First Nation. No one can deny anything said above!

Lets give these people a golf island that they can't leave and they can operate independently of this society that they hate so much.
