Sammy was the greatest! But oh gosh this clip is hard to watch because it is painfully obvious that he was very drunk here. He's slurring his speech, stumbling over his words, and moving strangely. Totally out of character. Sammy and Co. didn't last long, which was a shame, and Sammy died too soon! He could have had lived at least ten more years had he received proper care. The Candy Man will always be loved!
I've been looking for any 'Sammy And Company' for years. Eugene Levy did 'Sammy Maudlin' on SCTV based on this, the most over-the-top cheesy and horrible talk show ever. 'SAMMY DAVIS INJURED IN FAKE LAUGH ACCIDENT' was an old SNL headline. Paul Shaffer loved this show. Sammy is coked up the whole time and hilarious.
I have read the same thing. I always wondered where they got the Sammy Maudlin idea.....it was a hilarious takeoff. This is just as funny but for different reasons.
