I see there concerns with radio, but I would argue that file sharing gives modern generations more potential for musical literacy than even 60's children had. File sharing may be immoral (that's a different debate) but it allows you amazing access. I think about Keith Richards talking about how hard it was just to get Muddy Waters albums as a kid. Today I can get his discography in 10 minutes. Modern radio is very annoying but I don't think it's killing this generation as much as they think.
@novanine9 I don't know,I think there are some pretty great American artists...like Erykah Badu for example..I am personally a jazz nazi,so I admit that most "pop" music from the U.S is indeed garbage.(..and "smooth jazz" makes me want to puke) I must agree that art is generally cultivated in a more positive manner in Britain...but you can't tell me that the Beatles didn't get some of their sound from America...if Lennon saw your post-he might bitch slap you and call YOU a Leninist! LOL!
@Guitfiddlejase - my point is that this video falsely blames the wrong people. The population dictates the music.
Brits are just way more sophisticated and open to new sounds. That is what the Brit invasion was all about...
taking all of American music and coming up with something new. The Beatles covered motown songs and Rock and Roll songs...and in the end came up with unique sounds
Trust me...I'm a Jazz Nazi, myself along with being a recording artist: Getz, Brubeck
Yes AMERICA is missing out ...because believe me..I live out here in Europe..and its pratically the same..but therefore they have these on-line radio programs that don't pay for copyrights..so the artist falls short again.
"Were killing this generation by not giving them the options and different kind of music we had"
I think this is completely backwards. Now is the BEST time to be a music fan. The internet gives you access to soooooo much more music than ever before.
@harveyn590 well yeah, but that doesnt work, how am i supposed to search for it if i dont even know the neame of artist, or the song or anything? someone has to show it to me first
@harveyn590 no, she has it right on the money, the amount of marketing on the internet makes it very easy to limit the amount of options to music, movies, etc. with the magical "m" word...marketing by all means of advertising. However, you have to hear the name of the band first before looking for their music. How else will you find their music if you don't know any band names?
jeez I'm glad the european music scene is A LOT broader. just listen to BBC's radio stations for example. they play pop but they are always sporting the best upcoming talents. also no matter what music you there's always a channel for you. :)
@SpicyTofuZ9 I can't say about Canada but I think a good start would be KTRU online ( Rice University). It's not all new stuff either. The other night they played The Nashville Teens which is an old group I had never heard of & some Roky Erikson music as well. Also, I notice that certain college radio stations seem to be more imaginitive and eclectic than other college stations that border on being Clear Channel clones.
@SpicyTofuZ9 There have been examples of music of both types as long as there has been music... and there will always be both... and one is NOT necessarily, or objectively better than the other
This is the reason why I've been listening to college radio and NPR for years with only an occasional listen to other stations. You can find good music on the radio if you have other options.
@raisismith Well, considering her being naked in the video Window Seat was her artistic expression outlining how society is so uncomfortable with sexuality that's not aimed specifically for male consumption. Couple that with the fact that she actually proved her point because of how everyone reacted the way they did to her video. (So to answer your question) YUP, I still think she's amazing and halariously brilliant! Thanks for asking though.
I meant their video analyses are excellent starting points to start decoding this symbolism and subliminals that is encoded in popular music, television, and movies!
lets all start making pirate radio stations

Who's the shadow guy, behind the curtain, in a hood, with his voice altered, as if he was some Mafia informant in fear for his life?
Also, I'm pretty sure that even in the 50s you had stations around the country playing the same rock & Motown hits.

This so-called music is often full of sexual perverse subliminals and anti-social degeneracy.
