It was made primarily a stand-alone unit and intentionally designed for live gigging over studio recording, but it works great in the studio too, or wherever you want to exploit its grooves.

Computers are OPTIONAL and NOT required for production but the DX200 can be midi'd up to a PC/MAC if that how you want to use it.

Mine is NOT hooked to a computer per se, its part of an 8 synth rack/slave midi daisy-chain, all controlled by my studio master midi controller workstation.

  • So you can create beats with just this? or does it need other stuff?

  • @moMruoYgnillorT I only use it as a sound module connected thru MIDI to a keyboard. An Internet search on Yamaha DX200 Manual will get you to the owner's manual to see it's capabilities.

Two questions, two answers: yes and no. :)
