I saw this movie halfway and stopped watching it, the only person that looked like his video game counterpart was Gen Fu and he wasn't even important in the movie and that's saying something, everyone else was just screwed up to the point where I don't know where I should begin at. And they could have just made Zack bald instead of gluing that green triangle on his head to make it look like his hair and don't get me started on Helena.

Unfortunately, yes. If I remember correctly, he was in it and was a joke. The biggest joke is how short Hayate's hair is in the end, nearly bald. Or how Ayane never fights backwards at all in the whole movie. She doesn't use Kidou or anything. It's horrible.

Lol, well I hope that DOA5 comes to PS3 like it was rumored. They said before that they put the game on the most powerful system at the time. So that explains why DOA1 was on PS1, DOA2 was on Dreamcast and then ported to PS2 and Xbox and why DOA3 was Xbox and DOA4 was 360 (during the time PS3 wasn't out yet, I believe). So it would make the most sense to put it on PS3 for the next one. I just hope that they port 3 and 4 over as well. I barely get to play 4 on my friend's 360.

I've heard this mistaken opinion once before, regarding Ayane not being "asian" in the movie. Sorry to disappoint you guys, but she IS asian. Natassia Malthe, the actress playing Ayane, is of Norwegian and Filipino descent, so she IS asian. So before you express something as being a matter of fact, you should check that it is in fact, a FACT, and not just your own opinion, based on a persons superficial look. So everbody who's playing an asian character in the movie, IS in fact, asian.

Please point out where we said something was a matter of fact. We were reviewing this and making it up as we went along while seeing the movie for the first time. I went back and added the editing later, but we weren't going to stop the movie and bring up IMDB to see the back history of every actor on the movie before we made a joke about them not being like the game. See, you said "if they fit their characters". That's just it. She doesn't fit her character, at all. She's a HORRIBLE Ayane. Ayane doesn't act, talk, look or sound like that. The same can be said for almost 100% of the cast on here. They don't look that much like the game characters and they definitely don't act like them. In the movie, Ayane loves Hayate. In the game, they are brother and sister. How is that fitting the character?

Yes, excellent point. But then, if they made a movie based on a game too much like the game, then a moviegoing audience would be unable to get into the movie, because it would be too over the top. Some sacrifices always has to be made when making an adaptation. In fact, one of the best adaptations I've ever seen, is the Lord of the Rings movies, which managed to stay surprisingly true to the books. Very impressively done. Dragonball hasen't premiered here yet, I'm looking forward to it.

My take on that is that if they want to change the story to something that it wasn't, then don't call it what it used to be. If you are going to make a Metroid movie where Samus is a black man that grew up in New Jersey and fought a local gang called the Metroids, don't call it a Metroid movie, you know? How would you feel if you worked hard on a book and the movie was nothing like it other than the characters names?

Also, as a point of discussion, Goku in Dragonball isen't played by an asian, or at least not by one who looks even the least bit asian, but who cares, right? I'm impressed so long as at least half of a cast of a movieadaptation are the actual ethnicity that they are playing. Okay granted, having switched Ayane from being the sister of Hayate to being a girl who's in love with him is a little bit disturbing (and yet a little bit kinky as well). But hey, maybe it works better with the movie.

I can't believe you are looking forward to that. I gusss you're more of a movie than than a game and anime fan. If I was just into movies, I'd want to see it. But because I saw every episode of the series it is based on, seeing how they changed so much in the movie makes me feel like they are intentionally trying ot insult fans. That is not dragonball. Goku doesn't have to be Asian since he's an alien, so that can pass. But the rest of it is epic fail. Horrible looking Kamehameha.

Leon as a stand-alone character in the movie was funny with the gun cocking sounds for his muscles & stuff. But it was an insult to the Leon from the game. That's my gripe. If you want to make a character like that, fine, just don't call him Leon and I will be fine with it. It'd be like if someone did an autobiography of my life and hired actors that didn't act like my friends because they thought it'd be a funnier movie that way. Don't call it an autobiography if it's not canon, you know?

I'm feeling you dawg. But you do also recognize the need to "adapt" a game, comic or book into a movie, right? The rules for a cartoon are different than a movie, you can get away with more stuff. It was probably a good idea to change Piccolo from a greenskinned alien with antenna into something a little less 1950's era sci-fi. And I did love the gun-cocking sound of Leon, that was cool. The whole ripping and tearing furniture apart thing worked for me too.

But think about it. Name five, no, try to name even three live action movies based on anime or videogames that were successful and managed to please the fans? Most, if not all, game-to-movie or anime-to-movie films suck. Most, if not all, deviate from the core plot. I think that is the main reason why they fail. If you had taken the Street Fighter movie and just pitched it as a Van Damme movie where he fought a crazed guy bent on world domination it wouldn't have been AS bad, I think.

But in defence of the moviemakers, they do usually say a movie is "based on", meaning they will be taking liberties with the movieadaptation. I hope Halo will get made into a movie. As for Dragonball, I have hopes that it will at least maintain what I consider to be at the core of the anime, intensity, ki, and lots and lots of explosions.

While several comic to movie adaptations can be mentioned as being both succesful and true to the core material, I do have difficulty in doing the same with game and anime to movie adaptations. But to be fare, don't the comic to movie adapts rule the market, rather than anime and games? Or is it just, that the anime and games sucked so much as movies, that none of us ever really heard about them? Wait, I just got one, Mortal Kombat.

MK was the only thing that could come to mind with me. It wasn't what I'd really call a great movie but it did keep the look of the characters and their names as well as the plot for the most part and did well in theaters if I remember correctly. And yes, many book and comic adaptations do well but maybe it is the companies behind it. Compare the Marvel movies to the DC movies. Aside from Batman Begins/DK, the Marvel movies all trump the DC ones in sales. Maybe it's because...

Stan Lee, the man behind Marvel, actually has a say and is IN most of the movies. See, if you respect the source material you can do great. Now look at Spiderman movies, even though they went away from the comic's whole web cartridges and made it so Peter made the webs himself in the movies, it worked well and made sense. However, changing Eddie Brock/Venom was hated by all fans because it made no sense to make him so different. But people that didn't read the comics liked him.

Name all the game and anime to movie adaptations that were relatively succesful, and that was well recieved with loyal fans. Well if we can add foreign movies then it will be easier. The NANA live Action movie was amazing & did well. Casshern was also awesome but I don't think it was completely cannon with the story. Death Note is my favorite foreign movie ever but fans had mixed reactions about it. The movie was great but because it was different than the anime in some of the plot, some fans of the anime disliked it. I didn't like what I saw of the anime but loved the movie. So that all goes back to my theory.
