I didn't think I'd be into Lynch's music. I'm a big fan of his movies; Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, etc. But I never thought his music would be pleasant to my ears. Actually now that I'm listening to it, this is pretty much the sound I've been looking for.
I was just thinking, based on the theme of Lynch's movies that he might have wanted to make music that fits the surrealistic, mysterious, scary theme of his works and Akira Yamaoka has perfected the music he might have been trying to create..
Yeah, i´ve been thinking that ever since inland empire. That movie felt like silent hill in a lot of ways, especially the song where he sings about how strange love is. The music style is very remniscent of the general soundtrack in Silent hill 3
Agree about the vocals totally.....it doesn't work and I'm a huge Lynch fan. His musical output several years back was a whole lot better than this imo...so I see this as a backwards step. His pieces Pink Room & Blue Frank blow this out of the water, as does Ghost of Love.....but this I find quite boring and ultimately lacking.
Aye...this track may be mediocre, but there are many (me included) who would say that Lynch has very few peers when it comes to sound design and sound engineering....his and Splet's work in the field has sonically advanced cinema massively imo.
This isn't about whether Dave can hack it musically....cos we know he can and that is proven already, many times over. It's about whether THIS (and his other new stuff) is 'up there' and I don't think it is.
@eyeliveonanisland I agree, I think he's got great ideas, but he's so naive about music (in my opinion) that whenever he does have a music idea he treats it like a revelation. His Blue Bob album is great I think, but could've been so much better if he had left out some of his more pretentious ambitions for it.
@notanartlover None of them (let's not count lyrics for Twin Peaks Badalamenti's music). I know Portishead since "Dummy" in 1994—95, and music composer Lynch since mid 2000. What's next?
I love Lynch's music, but I have to say I think Good Day Today is honestly total garbage, I swear I've heard all those sounds, that melody, and structure so many times before in electronic music. Coming from such a visionary I think it's a major step back.
SOOOO glad David Lynch is finding more and more ways to express himself. Like this song, or just like David Lynch in general? Check out Trust The Piper by Howard Hues. It's right up your alley :)
Thanks for the song and the contest! I entered, but didn't make the cut, still it was fun - and I've got the video I made on my YouTube channel for this song (I also made a video for "Good Day Today"), so you can view if you like. Season's greetings!
Don't have to tell me, baby So you go on down the road now You gonna leave my sight But i remember you, baby Each and every night Don't have to tell me You got to go Every night Mmmm feel so low Every night See you go Train take you now, girl The bird She stopped to sing Since i went And did that thing I Know I Know You got to go
I Know I Know I Know The bird She stopped to sing Since i went And did that thing I Know I Know Train take you now, girl I know You got to go Seen it coming baby Just as plain as day Seen it coming at me No way you can stay I Know I Know I Know I-I-I Know
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME. Lyrics are driving me insane. I got most of them, but some crazy words are still missing. Here's what I already figured out : I know, I know, The ****? she stopped to sing Since I went, and did that thing I know, I know, ****? I know, you gotta go Sing and come on baby, Just us (?) playing the game Sing and come on at me, No way you can’t (or can ?) stay
I know, I know, I know, I I I know. You don’t have to kill it baby (?)(not quiet sure about that one. Sounds actually different when I remove my headphones of my ears. Then I Hear “don’t have to tell me baby”) See you ****? under the road now You’re gonna leave my side But I’ll remember you baby Each and every midnights You don’t have to kill me You’ve got to go I ****? See you so alone And I I see you go Try to take you out girl /?/ try ****? loud girl
Better than Good Day Today - it is more original I suppose - I can see where he's coming from with Good Day Today, but who cares really - I think he's just doing this for himself, and it's cool that people his age wouldn't think of going in this direction - Ghost of Love rocks, btw

Shit vocals man. I know what he's trying to create though.
Akira Yamaoka has perfected it.
You guys should listen to Akira Yamaoka and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.
Lynch is a great director but this is just mediocre.
