  • This man is being horribly reckless. He is systematically teaching a population of large, strong predators that. Human camps are a reliable source for food. What happens when these bears get hungry and go searching for other cabins or tents? They find unsuspecting campers who get scared and act unpredictably. This can very, very easily result in deaths.

    He's a criminal.

  • @bigDean636 they already know human camps are a reliable source of food, haven't you ever been to a national park like yellowstone? You're a sensationalist lacking and real substantiated argument.

  • God gave man dominance and rule over all the animals, charlie is demonstrating that with great faith. And indeed it takes great faith to overcome such fear. This proves Gods word is correct if we truly put our faith in him he will not let us die. Well done charlie and let the force be with you always.

  • There you go..persecution of the society to people who go out of the box.

He is not doing anything wrong..he is not poisoning the bears. If he gets killed then so be it.

It is so wrong when pea brain guys are labeling him as crazy or other derogatory term.

I believe that when u show love to animals they show love back no matter if they are carnivores. Most of the time people are the worst creatures on Earth!

  • why would people be pissed off by this. the only one that will suffer any consequences is himself and he knows that

  • He lives for these bears.

  • he fed one bear too much...

  • is this guy stil alive?

  • Bears are scared of people, and they are trying to keep it that way.

  • To all you idiots saying "He's a poor old man leave him alone. Its his bussiness, hes not hurting anyone" Oh but he just might hurt someone.

You idiots don't understand. He is feeding the bears, therefore over time making them less scared of people. If he keeps doing what he's doing the Bears will start to live closer to towns and eventually walk straight into towns and eventually, start attacking people in their own towns and even homes.

  • @BlueGama600 THEN YOU TEACH YOUR DAMN PUSSY KIDS TO MAN UP AND PUNCH A BEAR IN THE FACE.

  • @Supercucu123 lol I don't have kids you idiot. 'unching a face in the face' isn't brave, just stupid, like you. Hopefully one day you try it.

  • @BlueGama600 I love punching a face in his faces.

  • @Supercucu123 lol yeah right.

  • @BlueGama600 wat

  • @Supercucu123 Your mum

  • @BlueGama600 I love your mom!

  • There is a wealth of information about the nature of bears, communication, territories, mating at bear.org. After seeing this, good idea to get reoriented with a few facts and the ongoing research of diversionary feeding that was posted there. Bears are fascinating.

  • There is quite a bit of information about bears at bear.org. I am glad I found the Bear Center which has information by devoted biologists before finding this. They have recently published a paper on diversionary feeding which is being researched. Just fascinating to hear the scientific approach. Diversionary meaning, to keep starving bears from going into urban areas in search of food. Also, acclimation of bears to 'a' person does not translate to a loss of fear of people.

  • But he is hurting people because bears normally shy away from humans and he is teaching them to see humans as a source of food.

  • Why is it dangerous? you are basically training bears to go along with people. Say some people visit that place.. the bears will probably go near them knowing that they will be hand fed or something. Dont want any of that shit..

  • i just watched this series and i see nothing wrong with what this man's done. he's living out his days in the wild. among bears. i find this amazing what this man's done and anyone who criticizes him are wrong. its not like he's keepin them in captivity, they come to him, and leave when they choose.

  • That guy got eaten by a bear today. :(

  • yeah let him be with the bears just take away his zap stick.

  • he should have writen a book of his experiences i would love to have had the plessure to read it but i watched the documentary anyway and i was really sorry for him in the end

  • @moonbearwolf also its charlies choice to be around these bears but when his children and other people come out to visit him at the cabin its way different. so no its not ok. not legal. this is how bears learn to turn over dumpsters, break into homes and cars for a little donut.

  • @BillyVandergaw who was there first? we always steal land

  • @BillyVandergaw I do believe they learned that all by them selves.

  • @moonbearwolf ok...sure, you sound crazy. obviously you know nothing about charlie, what kind of man he truly is. so dont act like hes the greatest person in the world because he fed bears. do you know what he used to do? he used to kill the bears by feeding them so they would get in range of his bow hunting...that isnt hunting, thats not even sportsmanship. then he got old and just didnt hunt anymore. this isnt some dances with wolves crap

  • Fuck everyone that thinks he is insane hes just trying to live a happy life why can't people just leave him be happy instead of taking away the one of few things he loves. And beside yes bears might kill him at any time but i think are like really big dogs. If he wants to have something to love let him love it and stop telling him what to fucking do with his life.

  • @icommentonvideos1 Big dogs don't turn on you instantly and rip you to shreds because they are tame. This man was killed by bears.

  • @Wombleonastick this man never got killed. Also there have been multiple cases with tame dogs randomly attacking people, most of the times it have been kids.

  • @MrFox1231 1. Prove it.

    2. No shit, Sherlocke, dogs attack people, they're vicious by instinct. That's why you don't leave kids who are gonna play up around dogs that are capable of killing them alone. Only thing about bears is that they've never been tamed and they're all faster, stronger, bigger and more vicious than any dog I've seen.

  • 3 people got killed by bears

  • man eating gryzlies?

wtf they dont go out looking for human to eat. they attack if they feel threatend by human

  • did the announcer attempt to use the word "controversy"? I couldn't hear him over the propaganda.

  • I wish him well; but Methinks he needs to stick with his God-given commonsense and let those bears be bears by living naturally, instead of being conditioned to believe that people are all about handing out treats. What he's doing puts both people and bears in harms way doing what he's doing.

  • Charlie has done nothing wrong!

To those who pass judgment on Charlie...What Are You Doing To Save Wildlife??

As You Sit Behind The Safety of Your Desk, In Your Home, In A Fancy High Rise Office or Government Offices!

Charlie has done nothing wrong, he is alone is what he cherishes & loves!

Leave Him Be, & Leave The Bears... Alone!

  • @moonbearwolf 1. We don't need to leave him be, he got killed by bears

    2. We could leave the bears alone better by arresting nutters like Charlie.

  • @Wombleonastick

Charlie has not been killed by bears! :p

Its Charlie's choice to live near, & among the bears.

My childhood, I grew up living among bears & other wildlife to, as many humans do.

If I or anyone choose to do the same as Charlie, its my life-their life, We Are Responsible for Self, Our Own Actions, Belief's & Choices.

  • @moonbearwolf So where is Charlie? unless you can actually find evidence that he is alive, you can't be the judge.

Also, you don't seem to understand the danger caused by doing this, it associates humans as tasty meals for the local bears. sure if you have some food and the bear is being nice, but what if you startle it, what if it gets angry? In that very case, charlie could have ended up responsible for someone's death, should they have allowed him to continue when he harmed people like that?

  • @Wombleonastick Where is Charlie ??? LMFAO!

If you followed the facts you'd know Charlie is alive, he fenced up, locked up, left the cabin & has been & out of court!

As for the Bears? Bears Are Bears, Animals Follow Natural Instinct & Are Territorial. When One Enters The Depths of The Forests, Mountains, Wildlife Territory & Domain.

Everyone's At Risk, Its Wildlife, I Live Among Wildlife Daily, Be Smart, Be Aware of Your Surroundings, Make Use of Your Senses! Don't Judge Others! Get A Life!

  • @moonbearwolf 1. Prove he's alive.

    2. You don't understand, because of him, they'll approach humans themselves, and the bears won't be scared of them because they got fed by a previous human, therefore, they picture humans as being friendly towards them.

    3. When a pack of bears have approached you, looking for food, you're supposed to "follow your senses"?

If a guy who fed bears for years dies in that action, how can you expect yourself to fair any better in that same boat?

  • @Wombleonastick

YOU ARE A SERIOUS WASTE OF ENERGY! CAN YOU READ?!? LMFAO!

    Tata :p

  • @moonbearwolf You're a troll, nice try but I'm far more knowledgeable about trolls than you think.

  • If any of you lived in an area that had a lot of interaction with bears, you'd understand why what he is doing is a problem. Feeding bears encourages the bears to approach people, while HE may be fine, others may not be. Go be nuts all you want and dance with bears for all I care, but don't go associating humans with tasty snakums.

  • @Pokarot said it better than i couldve

  • It really piss's me of. How some people '' Know best '' About your own self ware being. He is a old man. He lives a great life and may end with it to. He isnt stuck in his home all day bored to death. he is doing what he loves. He is aware of the consuqences so just let him be. If somthing happens he was aware it could happen and it is his choice. It fucking pisses me off.

  • The man is older than one would thought, what does it matter if he stays there at his own haven, let him the fuck alone fuckers.

  • Leave it to the government to tell everyone how their lives should be lived. Next thing you know, the government will mandate certain diets (you know, because left to our own devices, some of us get overweight), tell us what cars we can drive, etc. We don't need babysitters. People know the risks of what they're doing (if they don't, it's a different story), so just leave them be.

  • He is RIGHT,what he does IS his buisness....leave him the fuk alone.

  • i can't believe this guy went to jail because he likes the wildlife and bears. dumbest law i've ever heard. shouldn't even be one. can't feed bear, next it's going to be you cant feed cats or dogs

  • Comment removed

  • @daboodeef179 They allow us to feed cats and dogs because cats and dogs don't run up to you and pull your arm off, this man makes bears associate a human with a tasty snack, this is fucking dangerous for anyone out there because that encourages bears to approach humans. What if they get angry?

  • @Wombleonastick

  • @moonbearwolf

    1. saying that you do voluntary work for wild and domestic animals(which I'm yet to know is true or not), and saying that I'm uneducated, does not answer the question of wheres charlie, nor does it debunk the idea that humans feeding bears will encourage local bears to frequently approach humans. I just gave you 2 questions and you refused to answer either, why?

    2. You don't understand, when a human feeds an animal, they'll think humans will give them food, so they come to you.

  • It's interesting to see what people think of my uncle...

  • People you don't get it. Bears have a healthy fear of humans which causes them to avoid contact with us. If you feed them, they'll lose that fear and can become aggressive and one day might drag off a toddler. Bears are fascinating majestic creatures but they are also a wild animal that can be very unpredictable and dangerous. That's why it's illegal to feed them.

  • @locksmithite kill joy or what

  • Charlie keep on living with the bears! They accept you, you shouldn't be taken from your own home.

  • instead of catching rapist and murderers they want to put this man in jail, fucking sad if u ask me

  • hey charlie! thinking of you guy.

  • is there any way to mail or email charlie to tell him i support him? petition is closed

  • Carry a samurai sword (Katana) just in case your bears get crazy on you.

  • Good for you Charlie fulfilling your passion...I cant understand people who try to rain on others parades..He knows hes taking a risk and if something happens to him at least he's living out his dream and actually loving his life. Maybe these bears are actually giving Charlie a reason to live.

Hold on to your passion and never let it go :)

  • I watch this all day sunday ..and i tell you..let the man due what he been doing for 20 years.. if he gets hurt thats on him.. You took away what he love to due.thats mess up.I hate ALASKA

  • I saw this all day on Sunday as well. I felt for him because he is being prevented from doing what he loves. But I also see the states argument as well.

  • I had a mixed feeling when he was taken away the freedom of feeding and associating with wild bears. He did what he loved but it is also true that all wild animals are unpredictable.

  • Read the news of this. It's really saddening :(

  • Comment removed

  • If I go into another person's house and start eating their food, I could get killed, like Treadwell. But if someone comes to my house to eat my food, they wouldn't hurt me if they knew I was ok with that. That's why he is still alive.

  • Treadwell (real name Timothy Dexter) was a narcissist who constantly gloated over the "dangers" he faced with bears. He fancied himself as some kind of nature ninja warrior. This man is quietly engaged in a truly amazing level of communication with bears. His motivation is to experience that communion and expand his understanding of them. He may get killed doing it, but he is nothing like Timothy Treadwell. Treadwell wanted fame; Charlie wants to be left alone with his bears, that's all.

  • Let people interact with animals. If they get hurt, that's their business.

  • good point but in real life if a bear harms some damn human for getting to close to it then that bead will be shot

  • Charlie did what he loved, he got to chill everyday in the company of bears, and the government is fucking stupid, bears are going to be aggressive animals towards everybody, if they're hungry and you have meat on your bones you're a potential meal, the government is saying a fed bear is a dead bear, only reason is because HUMANS KILL BEARS FOR THE FUCK OF IT, Jesus Christ humanity is stupid.

  • thats a catchy slogan, a fed bear is a dead bear

  • Poor old man. He was just doing what he loved. And if he did die, which he didn't, he would of died a happy death. Damned government had to interfere and he had to go to court, and is innocent until proven guilty of feeding them. =(

  • @EvyTheWhiteWolf So being eaten alive is a happy death by your books? Rest assured, when a bear starts to eat you alive, it will not be a happy death.

  • is there anyway i can go there and meet the guy and interact with the bears? i think it would be an amazing experience...

  • heres an idea. dont go around bears if u think theyre gonna fuckin eat you. everytime you go into the woods u are at risk of being killed by even the smallest animals. when we treat lions, crocodiles, tigers, etc. and release them into the wild, we dont make a big deal about that. therefore, this guy is doin just fine. loved the show. especially when he smacked the bear in the face. that was classic. if he dies, he dies doing what he loved. if anyone else dies, maybe they shouldnt be near bears.

  • I completely agree!!

  • I saw this series and it was truly wonderful. What a wonderful man. He certainly is a gentle soul to be able to live along side of them and know them so well.

  • but the difference is Treadwell was 'treading' on their terroritory and he came off like a threat while in Charlie's case the bears come to him and look to him to be their caregiver.

  • Well...you know what Charlie always says: Sarah Palin is a hottie!

  • Anyone know where to find these episodes online? I dont have Discovery channel

  • er....Animal Planet

  • I like the video, I think it's very sweet and I think that if this dear man wants to risk his own life, then so be it. Who are we to tell him not too. Besides, a bear will eat what it wants too, regardless of the circumstances! Leave this man alone.

  • The feeding was bad, but the habituation was worse. Now these bears associate humans with food. That's not a good thing, people. He's going to pay the price for what he's done now that charges have been brought. I hope nobody else also pays the price.

  • the last episode i saw was so sad. he completed the electric fence around his house and is not going near the bears anymore. the government sucks ass

  • lol 1:46-1:50 is so me

  • I don't have all the facts here, but if this guy is in remote wilderness, i say the gov. should leave this poor man alone! Yes, we all know the dangers in feeding bears, yes it may lead to them associating people with food, but if this guy is in the middle of nowhere....get off his back! A better use of time spent would be researching and learning from Charlie something that would be useful to the public when it comes to understanding bear behavior instead of threats to arrest him.

  • You kn o what pisses me off? They are going after a 70 year old man who just loves bears, and lives out in the middle of nowhere with them. Who gives a fuck if he feds them and they might kill him one day??? He's an old happy guy who's being made miserable by the ridiculous paranoia of other human beings. Give him some peace and let him do his thing, even if the rest of us think he's nuts!

  • @dracojosh ,makes me think of the movie first blood.the vietnam vet who just wants to live in peace and wander around.sometimes there is always that negative force who wants to cross your path and stop you.for what.let that man be.it's him being in danger.cause lets face it ,like the man in the end of the vid says.one slip and it is over.bears are that strong..

  • @dracojosh "Who gives a fuck if he feds them and they might kill him one day???"

Clearly not you, but did you never stop to think about whether or not he has a fucking family? Should we just let people do things because it makes them happy? Should we let other 70 year old men who like to snort meth, or drink cyanide through a straw do it as long as they do it "in the middle of nowhere". You're a fucking idiot. Bears are wild animals. Being in their presence is like playing with fire.

  • @dracojosh 1. its dangerous, not only for him, but for others.

    2. it puts them out of their instincts.

    3. if he does it, so will others. THATS when many people would start to die.

  • Comment removed

  • @dracojosh The problem is that once these bears are habituated to be fed by a human and lose their source of food (say, that man dies), they'll turn to seek it from other humans, their homes and cars (breaking in) and the bears will end up shot--the sad part, That's why bears shouldn't be fed, it kills them.

  • Love them enough to leave them be..

Selfish Sapians who don't use there reasoning powers..

  • Why do you think it is illegal to feed bears?

  • What a load of shit. I hope the people "watching" him get mauled by the damn bears. Stupid ass government bullshit. America was and is never free. Too bad people died believe such a load of shit.

  • Government people tend to be anti-freedom.

  • i was just watching this show. and i agree with blake. i don't see why he can't feed the bear. if he enjoy having them around.

  • If people want to take the risk to be close to nature then LET THEM!. Its their choice.

  • c'mon guyz!...leave the old man alone.if you think he's insane then just shut up...

  • I was watching this show. Really wild. I am impressed this guy has been among bears for 20 years. But obviously the only reason the Bears come is because they know that Bear haven is a food source, because Charlie has fed them so much. Bears have a remarkable memory when it comes to areas that are proven feeding grounds. I dont know, this guys in over his head I think. I guess many people wonder if he'll meet the same fate as Tredwell did.

  • I can't help but think he'll end up getting himself killed one of these days.

  • So fake.

Those are obviously actors wearing bear costumes.

Go to the 2:17 mark, you can see the zipper plus one of them is wearing tennis shoes and a watch.

  • oh haha...

  • Could a bear be trusted if it was raised by humans from being a cub?

  • You can take an Animal out of the wild, but you cant take the wild out of the Animal.

  • He hasn't even taken them out of the wild!

  • Thats not what I meant. Xcalibur was asking, if you raise a Bear in captivity from a newborn Cub, would it be less dangerous if it was raised by humans alone. And no, it would not work. Bears are born, like any animal, with instincts encoded into their DNA that is apart of the species, regardless if humans raise it or not. A Bear is a Bear, is a Bear.

  • The bear could be trusted-

    Up to a point.

The same way an obedient, gentle german sheperd, pit bull, etc., could be trusted with a child-

    Up To A Point.

  • There is good reason for the laws against feeding the bears. Its is not for your own protection. It is to also to hopefully keep the bears in fear of humans. If they have no fear of humans they will aproach campers and hikers more willingly thus causing more potential harm to both sides.

  • bingo,

Charlie here seems nice enough, but he is demonstrating, and aclimating large predators to humans, and teaching them that people are a source of food. This cannot but end badly one day. If he was deep enough in the back country I suppose I wouldn't care all that much. But if there is a chance he is close to other humans then he ought to be prohibited from such action.

  • If you don't keep a good thing secret, like feeding and enjoying the company of black and brown bears, the government will come a callin', and ruin it for you.

  • how do u know

  • everybody knows!

  • Penguinistas is of course right. There is a reason you don't leave food out and have to protect trash cans when you go to places like Yellow Stone. If bears think they've found an easy food source, they will exploit it. They get used to getting it easy from people like him, and when a person doesn't willingly give it to them they will get aggressive.

  • Not only that, but if there's a Bear that's hungry enough, and if they smell the food, even if Charlie doesnt have any on him, a Bear could attack to get food by scent alone. I mean, this guys nuts if he thinks what he's doing is not going to harm anyone, or the Bears. If one of the Bears he knows attacked someone for food, that would make him responsible because he fed that Bear and made it lose its fear of humans. Then the Bear would have to be killed. But even then this guy thinks otherwise.

  • What I want to know is how Grizzlies and black bears are found in the same territory?

  • They are very commonly in the same areas

  • So I assume they come across one another often?

  • But the problem is that this guy IS hurting other people. He IS conditioning extremely dangerous bears to approach humans expecting food. Those bears WILL approach some someone walking through the woods with a snickers bar and when they freak out, what will the bear do? Timothy Treadwell stalked bears for 12 years and "knew" their habits, what chance will some inexperienced teenage have? This guy is more dangerous than the bears, he is playing Russian roulette with the lives of his neighbors.

  • I never thought of it that way. Thanks.

  • I respect what you're saying, but also try to understand that it's stupid and risky for humans to be in any area where there are wild bears, or cougars, or mountain lions, etc. If you are camping and there might be a bear...well duh...good luck with that! A bear will attack you just because he smells something, ANYthing good, he doesn't have to be "trained" to confront humans for food. It's a BEAR for Pete's sake! You really think it needs to be taught to trust you? It's a BEAR! Hello!!?

  • But the problem is that, just like "Pavlov's dogs" those bears are now "conditioned" to expect to food from humans which will encourage them to seek out humans and populated areas. Before, they had no reason to seek humans out.

They will likely have to shoot the bears (likely after some child gets mauled to death).

  • I think he is right, what he does is his business, as long as he isn't hurting anyone, including the bears.

  • what happens when one of those bears come to some other person expecting food? it is a stupid idea if you ask me.

  • well u dont expect all bears to be the same as to this charlie guy to every person in the world would u

  • SUPERMAN

  • Good thing he has a stick, just encase.

  • good them sticks are lol

  • the problem with his feeding the bears is that he creates a situation where bears are no longer afraid of people and not only can end up hurting people, but can end up getting hurt or killed by hunters or something. what hes doing doesnt help the bears, but is rather selfish

  • he's more logical and he doesn't have his head as much in the clouds as Timothy.. tho they are both lovers of bears I think that's bout all they have in common...

  • He challenges our beliefs and assumptions. If he can befriend a wild bear. Maybe we can built a peaceful world by feeding the hungry

  • I hope that human nor bear will be hurt when this all ends.

  • at 1:20 did the narrorator say contraversy wrong?

  • rule one human are animal to they can be the pray or the predator

  • yeah I remember what happened to Timothy Treadwell. I hope nothing happens to this guy. Though if he has been up there living for 20 something years, that was longer than Treadwell's summer camps.

  • o.o That is one brave man.

  • that mans brave, you may think its plain crazy, but we will understand bears alot more! its a good thing

  • If you mess with bears you get eated.

  • damn str8.....

  • he must really have some emotion invested in those bears.

  • go to hell i say

  • lol, just to do it and i did.

  • why cant these people just leave this nice man with his bears, he knows what he is doing and has the trust of must bears

  • He is not nice, he is placing all his neighbors in great danger. He may think he knows what he is doing, but so did Timothy Treadwell before he and his girlfriend were mauled to death by bears.

  • Timothy Treadwell had it coming though, the risks he took out weigh those of Charlie's. He's been doing this for twenty years and have ya noticed how none of his neighbors have complained, he would have been fine if noone had found him out!

  • wow.
