That really IS hard to believe, considering you can pay $2000 in SF for a one or two room apartment! My little town isn't cheap, being in the heart of "Wine Country", real estate is pretty steep. I own my home though, and it was purchased back in the days when you could still get a good deal in Sonoma county. Food is awesome, the country is gorgeous! I don't plan to leave - EVER :)
Oh. You live in Sonoma itself. I grew up in Napa, the city of Napa. I went to a private school in 9th and 10th grade, where many of the students traveled from Sonoma to attend. You owned a video store, that must've been quite a good business back in the day! Different world now. (As you obviously know, otherwise you wouldn't be here!)
Quite good for 7 years, then came big-boy competition, Netflix (truth, I *love* Netflix!), GWB & war in Afghanistan, dotcom crash etc. It was a good thing as it turns out. I like my life a lot better now! I know Napa quite well, drove limos on wine tours for a few years. Private school returned my daughter from a D student to A's & B's - public schools are so handicapped these days... glad you got a decent education!
Its interesting -- U subscribed to my vids/ I went straight to this post of yours on the same day I was thinking about uploading a video re my love/hate relationship w/Southern California. I also wonder what other people may/may not like about where they live. I'm in Cali for 1/2 the yr.,Colorado (up in the mountains) for the other 1/2. I find that gas and food are cheaper in Huntington Beach than in the town I live in in Colorado -- go figure. I love how laid back you seem in this vid:*)
I've always wanted to visit Colorado. I've been through there on the train, but that's not quite the same. I have always always met really cool people from Colorado. As for SoCal, not too fond of it. My mom grew up in LA. I do enjoy San Diego, and recently I have learned to appreciate Venice beach and Santa Monica. Thanks for commenting.
My heart belongs in Colorado, for sure. I'm a rock climber, hiker, snowboarder/snowshoer etc. I like a change of seasons and I just seem to fit in with the lifestyle and mentality. Orange county is another planet entirely:( I have an apt. in Southwest corner of Colorado near a fantablirrific river. I agree with you re San Diego. I've driven up the Northern coast -- beautiful! People tell me that Northern Cali's population is of the more = "down to earth." What do you think?
Oh yes... no doubt, Northern California is much more laid back, not so image oriented. Much more environmentally friendly, less pretentious, less materialistic. The two really should be different states! I also love hiking and backpacking. I am not a rock climber, however! That's really cool. I've known a few people that were into it. The Rocky Mountains look amazing from the train. What an interest blend of places you are living in. I suppose you are also kayaker with your river fondness?
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I've had all flavors of youtube technical difficulties and been swamped since the 14th. Anywho, it sounds like I need to spend some time in Northern Cali:) I bet U would like the Rocky Mountains that much more without a train window between yourself and the wilderness(?). Kayaking = nope. I've been rafting (not experienced), love tubing, swim/jump off rocks at "secret" swimming hole, search for sticks/rocks/"treasure," want to work on my fishing skills...
Hey - I came to check you out after our physics argument over at Ian Crossland's video. You seem like a decent guy - sorry I insulted you.
To answer your question, we live in a small, SMALL town in South Carolina. We're renting a house for $550 a month, which is a real deal even out here in the sticks. No next-door neighbors, so I can play my drums at 3:00 a.m., and a mile of woods out back for me and the dog and the wife to run around in. Wheee!
I don't know much about South Carolina, other than that Stephen Colbert is from there. I had a friend who moved to North Carolina, but I never got a chance to get out there before he moved to Missouri.
That's ridiculous! The cost of rent (etc.) was one of the best parts of when I lived in Sacto (35th & J). Hey, I just looked at your website, cool stuff. I see Nationwide Freezer Meats moved to a bigger location, about time. Why don't you have Zelda's Pizza on there? That was one of my favorites.
Well... I appreciate that Zelda's is a well known long standing pizza and happy hour place here in Sac, but in the last 5 years, they have been lost in the sea of new restaurants. (I actually don't care for their pizza) Zelda died about 2 years ago. It is a cherished part of this community none-the-less and probably deserves a listing.
I've lived in San Francisco, Davis, Foster City, Santa Barbara, Carmel Mountain Ranch, San Diego, Ventura, and Bakersfield... The only one that was inexpensive was Bakersfield
Wtf..San Diego #1 someone is gotta be trippin i hate this place LOL
