I went to this game with my dad. I remember that they were handing out jim thome bobbleheads to the first 5000 or so people that came. me and my dad both got one :)
@JZ2001JC not our fault we're in one of the coldest states. You should come sometime and see the lakes and the headwaters of the mississippi... And of course, Target Field. Do you even realize how much of what you eat/drink/use comes from mn??? Kemps? Target? General Mills? 3M for gods sake?! U people need to learn to appreciate us.
I want him to beat bonds... But hes gonna hafta either go another 5 seasons or so(unlikely) or hit 150 or so more homers this year( also unlikely). Whatevs. GO THOME GET 600
I hope he makes it to the 600th homer mark. I haven't been this excited in baseball for a long time, not since the now disgraceful Mark McGwire was back in the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Those records (along with Sosa and Bonds) are now very disgraceful to look at. Regardless, Thome's triumph puts some positive light in an otherwise ROID tainted sport.
Thanks so much for this great quality video. I am so happy he reached 500; he will undoubtedly make Cooperstown, and he'll do it with class. We'll never forget ya Jimmy! Go get 'em!
Mad respect from MN love Jim Thome what a way to hit # 500. I hope the Twins resign him. Harmon Killebrew said there couldn't have been a classier person than Big Jim.
Now THAT'S an awesome video. Thank you! One of the best baseball players of my age. I did get to see Frank Thomas' 500th at the Mertodome... Hopefully I will get to see Thome's 600th at Target Field :)
Jim thome is an icon, he never did steroids.. him griffey and thomas are the only ones who did it clean, we need to give them more respect for real records during an era of juiced pitchers, Jim Thome has the fifth-lowest career AB/HR behind babe ruth, bonds, mcgwire, and ryan howard.
Jim Thome has been my hero seince he first made it to the mlb, and of course being a Indians fan I will always respect what he did for them and the mlb. A good guy he is congrats Jim
Ah, Jim Thome. One of the few honest power hitters of his era. I'm a Phillies fan. Even only playing in Philly for 2 full seasons (he was injured for almost his entire third season there), he became a fan favorite in the city.
One of the nicest guys in baseball. Even though Jim Thome is with the Twins, many White Sox fans (like me) still root for him do well... except against the Sox!
@whitesox130 How doesnt Minnesota deserve him he should be on a team without jackass catchers (AJ glad hes out of Minny) and he deserves a good crowd of people that never turn on players
@Y2jandMannyR4life I think he's ok. His physique never really changed throughout the years. But guys like Ivan Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa and Aramis Ramirez looked like teenage boys when they had to stop juicing. Looking at the highlights on ESPN and getting used to their bodies looking jacked, it was quite obvious they were doing something when they lost so much mass because they were being tested.
@Y2jandMannyR4life No way they will. Most guys who took steroids went from skinny build to fat and bulky. Thome's always been kind of pudgy throughout his career. Look at bonds, he was skinny like hell when he started.
I was at this game, 15 rows behind home plate. This was a bad season for the White Sox and I personally was going through tough times. This moment here was huge for Chicago and myself.
2007 White Sox 72-90, however this moment and Bhuerlie's No Hitter on WED Night, April 18, 2007, two great milestones in a losing season.
It's actully from a movie called the Natural a movie that Jim liked and he took the part of at the end of the movie and used it apart of his batting stance to pay homage to it. Although I'm sure it DOES intimidate pitchers.
shut up... first of all, he's not pointing the bat at the pitcher... that's just his routine to get comfortable in the box... second of all, he doesn't have to try to intimidate a pitcher... his stats do that...
YO HELP, i got THOMES practice bat, he almost killed me with his game one a couple of years ago at a mets phillies game. an inning later the batboy ran over n took it but gave me his practice one. its legit, anyone have an idea of how much its worth? or if your interested in it? maybe il out a video of it up
Jim Thome is everything that is RIGHT about baseball. Hard worker great guy off the field. Puts all of his nieces and nephews through college, plain and simple Thome freaking rules in every way cant wait to see him in the hall
When did this happen? I once saw (I'm pretty sure) him at a game and he is just massive. He is a great roll model and I would love to meet him one day. I haven't followed him for a long time but he is definitely in the top three athletes I would pay to meet. Maybe Big Mac too ; ) ! Carmelo Anthony and Arnold Palmer as well.
Who else going to the USA vs Honduras World Cup Qualifier June 6th @ 7 P.M. at Soldier Feild? Im bringing like 30 of my boys with me..in support of our country kicking some ass......... i heard they already ahve 30,000 tickets sold.....still only 2 months away. Jozy Altidore and Freddy Adu 2 American Phenoms are gonna be dominating
One of the greatest players of all time. He started with the Cleveland Indians. Why did they all leave? He would have booming home runs that your jaw would hit the floor. Miss him in Cleveland.
I rent My condo in Fla to GMs of Indians + amazed at Jim Thome,1st in, play all gm,work out after gm and then open gate by home plate +sign autographs for EVERYONE till no one left!Every Day! Without a doubt Id love to see him win a world series, a fine representative of a great sport
Does anybody know what that tune is that plays everytime Thome steps up to the plate at a home game? Its a really fast paced energetic tune? Anbody know the title and artist?
How ironic. Back when Nick Swisher was still with the Oakland A's, he was talking about the classiest guys in the league and he mentioned JIM THOME. Little did he know he would get traded to the White Sox and Big Jim would become his teammate.
Besides him playing for the Sox, he's a "hometown boy", growing up in Peoria, IL. It's 3 hours from Chi town. I think in some regard, that Sox fans might have had had a mutual respect for the man even when he played for Cleveland. I know I did...he was a Sox killer for years even when Philadelphia came here in 04. I was at the game when the Sox beat them 11-10 and Thome had 2 HRs. He basically single handedly kept the Phillies in the game.
This obviously is THE best video of Thome's 500th on youtube. I have it as my top video on my log. Too bad I wasn't able to attend, but my Mom and sister did and being the die hard Sox fans that they are, they'll never forget this particular game for the rest of their lives. Thanks for filming this and keep up the great work!
