Dude guys, If you ever read any updates on the NASA program, they are going to discontinue this huge gas guzzler and going to use hydrogen or similar based fuel that uses almost 75% less than the Shuttle. They are planning to launch from an angle and if you take physics you will know that the force of gravity is detirmined by the angle on which you propel yourself. And most surely going straight skyward here is not efficient.

The space shuttle does not go straight up. It begins to angle after it has rotated to align with its planned orbit. It uses the best ascent profile possible.
It flies the safest profile possible. They go for speed before altitude to be able to abort if required. Unmanned rockets do just the opposite. They need energy to get to the abort landing sites.

I say no because this planet will probably be around longer than the human race, and money in the space program could be spent down on Earth instead. I wanted to let all members of the Canadian Forces know that Dr. Steve MacLean of the Canadian Space Agency took a flag of Third Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry that flew over their HQ in Kandahar, Afghanistan into orbit on this flight as a way to escort the spirits of fallen soldiers home to the heavens to make sure they made it home safe. That flag will at some point go on display at CSA HQ. Thank you Dr. MacLean and all of Canada's soldiers.

the fuel they use on the rather large rocket. AINT you regular ol gasoline. I dont belive it contains any fossil fuels, being liquid oxygen and such. though i do immagine that it takes a certian amount of fossil fuel to create this rocket fuel.

I say no because this planet will probably be around longer than the human race, and money in the space program could be spent down on Earth instead. Perhaps much later on, after there is a sense of urgency to leave Earth, we may expand on that. But by then we would probably have a more efficient fuel system anyway. And saying "if you had any sense of logic" is a non-argument and sounds rather silly.

totally agree with you mate, what do we expect to gain from going to the moon or mars. It is a ludicrous waste of money . I am not saying that it isnt interesting but we don't need to burn up that much of earths resources it is total crap. as for stevemem he is wrong! we could use the money to solve world debt and fund science projects which create new energies then we would not need to "live in space" LOL doesnt he realise we already do live in space we have 1 planet thats it its up to us!

there are no new technologies or materials in space to help with our problems on earth.
